NJ Just Failed Inspection...You'd Never Guess Why

So, I picked my 04 GT last week and wanted to get my plates transfer and get through inspection. So, I went to get it inspected today. When I get to the end I see the guy put a red sticker on the windshield. He calls me over and explains that I failed because of a decal/sticker on the windshield. I asked if it was the "change oil" decal over the driver’s side...he said no, it's the manufacturer’s decal on the lower right side. A small decal (1 3/4 by 1 1/2) that says MAZDA that the dealer must have put on the car.

ARE THEY KIDDING ME!

Then after pealing the decal off, I went back on line to get a passing sticker which is bigger than the stickers I've seen in the past.

It just doesn't make sense...

As soon as I saw the thread title, I knew the OP must be in NJ. Ridiculous stories of NJ inspections are very common.

i pay for mine too..I used to have a gsx and i had a car club syciker on the bottom of the windshield they passed me and then i got pulled over on the way home for a windshield infraction. So I went back to the dmv and they said that I shouldve been failed so I had to peel the sticker off, pay the fine, and get it re-inspected.

When I failed for tints last summer, I also failed for my blue running lights. The inspector told me that I may be "mistaken for an emergency vehicle!" Really-- I couldnt make that up.

You've seen all the RX-8 emergency vehicles on the road lately, a havent you!!??

I did DVM inspections on the CDL trucks and the windshield rull is that there cant be anything obstucting the Driect line of sight of the driver. If Dmv cant find anything wrong with your car they will make something up just to make money. i had a trucker come in and have a ticket b/c the only thing they could find was a missing valve stem cap.

In hoboken they had to change where we place our parking sticker, original (and my) position is the bottom passenger side of the front windshield, but people started failing inspection so now it must reside on the bottom passenger rear windshield.

State run inspection stations will fail you, and some personal paid for garages will to. It all depends on who you know. What are of NJ are you in?

I grew up in NJ, this trick always used to work w/ the state inspection stations, don't know if it still does or not.

Get in line 1hour before they shutdown inspections on a Friday night. If you are in line, you are all set, they will inspect you, they'll just prevent stragglers from getting in line after that. Those guys are in such a hurry to get that line done since it's friday night, they would pass me regardless of what was wrong w/ my car, they wanted to start their weekend. I went in w/ 4 bald tires and a broken wiper (did not move at all) once and they passed me anyway, none of the techs said a word to me, LOL. Of course I was pulling away at 5:45PM, they were almost an hour late getting outta there.

This was during the early 90's though, so YMMV.
