Unhappy I need someones help! - Car not starting up!

Hi All,

Here is my issue..... I am at work yesterday and as I was leaving my car doesnt start. I do have a weak battery and I had one of the guys here at the office try and jump start me and nothing. I am thinking that it possibly could be flooded?
So I left my car here over night in case it was flooded to see if it could dry out over night. I just got to work 2 hours ago and the damn thing is still not starting. I read to try to "dechoking procedure" meaning doing this:

1. Depress and hold the accelerator pedal to the floor and crank the engine for 7-8 seconds. (This will clean out any unburned fuel from the combustion chamber).
Note: 8 seconds is a long crank time - count 1001, 1002, 1003 etc.

2. Release the ignition key to stop cranking and wait 3 seconds.

3. Release the accelerator pedal and start the engine.

I am trying to avoid getting it towed to Mazda and spending an arm and leg if I can fix it myself. But looks like that towing is whats going to happen.

If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know ASAP. Any advice will help.

Thanks in advance,
~ Kim ~

Check the tool tray in the trunk, see if you have a big 'eye bolt' in there.

This screws into the top corners of the front bumper mesh, and becomes your 'tow point' - get a strap/sling/rope through there and get a tow start from another car or a truck.

Just pull the car at ten mph or so, in second gear.

This WILL start it.

Good luck.

I have an automatic though. Do you think that it may still work that way?

if it's flooded you should still be covered under warranty. it was extended to 8 yrs/100k miles i believe.

No, it won't work if you're in second gear if your an A/T

Have you checked out the deflooding procedure in the DIY forum?

CT RX8 - I have an 05 AT touring and I did get a notice in the mail like a year ago about the 100K mile warranty. Flooding covers it you are saying?

Atilla - Yes I have tried the "dechoking procedure" and it didnt work. I do have a weak battery though. In like an hour when I take my lunch break, I am having one of the guys in the office try that procedure again. If not I am going to have to tow my car to Mazda.

Pass the word that if your car floods and its under 100K use this Service Bullettin and it will cover it and also here is the link to the original MNAO extended 100K warranty letter.

Thank you all for you help again and CTrx8 thank you, you rock for having that bulletin!

to avoid flooding you should be revving your engine to 2500 to 3000 rpm's for 2 to 3 seconds before turning off your ignition. this will burn off the unused fuel in the engine.

What was the dealership? Just curious.

Not buying their excuse that they did not get that bulletin, they sound kinda shady so I want to avoid them if possible.

Where about in MA are you located? It's hard sometimes to fine a good dealership in any area. I go to Sentry in shrewsbury even though I did not buy my 8 there.

I know that they tried to take advantage of me but thankfully I am a smart young lady that does her research.

I am in the process of moving and I am waiting for it to get nicer out, then I will take a pic of my little "portuguese princess" aka my car and I will post it up for you all to see her.

Thanks again for all of your help again. You guys are awesome!!!

I live in Plymouth. Not to far away from you. The Mazda dealership that I go to is the one in Raynham near Taunton on Rt.44. Called Metro Motor Group, its a multi dealership that sells Mazda, Ford and Kia vehicles.

I go to this one becuase its closest to where I live and its right near where I work too.

I live in Norton (About 1/2 hour away I guess). I got my car at O'Hara Mazda in Fairhaven. Not sure how far that is from Plymouth, but the sales and service dept. there were always excellent to me. And they have one tech there who works on all rotaries, he's been working on them for 20+ years I think.

I remember when I was trying to buy my 8, I went to that route 44 mazda. They weren't very nice people

Boys I hate my car!!! Yesterday when I left work, it started to buck on me.....at high and at low speeds. Its getting stuck between 2000 and 3000 RPM. I drive in alot of traffic and yesterday as I was driving on the highway and whenever my car slowed down and I tried to accelerate it again it was getting stuck, like I could feel the car jerk forward and back and it seemed like ir was trying to resist the acceleration. I would be going 80 one second then slowing down becuase people

Has this ever happened to anyone here before? Right now my car is at the dealership and I am not a happy camper. This car I swear is a frigin LEMON! I am sooooooo pissed!!!

there are a few things that could be causing this - clogged cat, bad coils and/or plugs, bad compression, and i am sure i'm forgetting something. here's another TSB to look at:

EDIT: i should add, i am not mechanically inclined whatsoever so take my post with a grain of salt. i'm just reposting what i have read in the past
