EDIT: forgot to mention, though it's quite obvious, my car is an 04 VR GT (i think...)

Got pulled over in Philipstown for tint being too dark. Any way to verify my tint level? like a light meter test or something at a state-certified tint shop? Cuz I doubt anyone would put illegal tint on a street car intentionally (except for the trailer queen that's occasionally driven). I mean, I think my Windstar's side window tint is darker than my RX-8's tint. It sucks, cuz the tint came with the car.

 

get mine serviced at middletown mazda. no probs for me. where do you guys get your windows tinted ?

 

My cousin's brother in law is a Putnam County Sheriff officer and hopefully tomorrow I can talk to him about my situation.

It sucks that i have to have the tint removed.

Try using the YellowPages.com since i don't know exactly where you live. I would recommened not going beyond the legal liit of 70% tint (tint shops will post a notice on their walls declaring they are not responsible for the tint level you choose.) since my ticket last tuesday, i've read up on the tinting laws of NY state, so i can tell you what's legal and what's not.

Illegal tint includes anything darker than 70% on the side windows, reflective, metalluc, or mirrored tints. Colored 70% tints are OK. The rear windscreen can be tinted to any darkness as long as you have two side mirrors to be able to see bhind you. If you have one side mirror, then the rear windscren darkness reverts to the legal limit of 70%. The top 6 inches can only be tnted to 70%.

Keep in mind that tint shops don't exclusively work with autos. The tint shop i used, Solar Shades, located in Poughkeepsie, also does commercial and residential building window tinting, which supposedly helps with controlling indoors temps. They also had rims, car remote starts, audio parts on display.

If you don't want to keep getting tickets for illegal tints, stick with the 70% tint for the sides. I dunno what level of tint that the RX8 comes with from the factory, but 70% tint looks clear. The tint that the previous owner of my car had on was literally darker than 50% or so.

 

go to the shop on 211 in middletown they do great work i had my rx8 tinted there i live in washingtonville too. i have the red and black rx8. where in washingtonville you live?

 

So, I got my tint removed at Solar Shades in southern Town of Poughkeepsie. They asked $80 for the removal (which, incidentally, is the cost of both tail light gaskets since mine are letting water in constantly).

I'm gonna continue to search the rear of my 8 for any more areas of broken glass that the previous owner forgot to mention to us. The carpet in the trunk hid a whole lot of broken glass, and some of it had slid under the rear seat cushions. I'm gonna look under the rear section of the center console, and also check the under the rear deck lid if I can.

Hopefully i don't eff anything up. As long as I know how to do it, instead of trial and error like I did with my Focus, I shouldn't have any problems.

Who's down for a meet sometime in the next month or so? Perhaps in the Wappingers Falls area or points further south?

Check Engine Light just came on in my RX-8. FML

I hope, for whatever reason the CEL came on, that the issue isn't TOO bad. BTW, it's not the gas cap.

 

auto lovers on 211 they do really good work i live by the cyo in washingtonville my rx8 is the red one with the black going down the middle and the loud *** exhaust. if you wanna see the tint job they did let me know ill meet you around town and show it to you

 

Focasfan check your coils wires and plugs they only last about 15-20000 miles. If so try doing it yourself mazda charges 1000 bucks. Coils go for around 200 - 300. Unfortunately they don't last long. Tip: remove driver side tire front makes it easier.

Sorry guys, looks like i may no longer have an RX-8... had an accident and the body shop is thinking it may be totaled. just front end damage, but the left front frame is heavily damaged. a million pieces all over the road.

I'm devastated by this :*(

Yeah, it definitely sucks. Just minutes before my accident, the CEL light went off. And i was planning to have Mazda check it out. I was reading an archived thread on here from '03 regarding CELs and saw that it could have been the gas cap (which I doubt, as it came on at about 1/4 tank remaining) or something else. If it helps me understand why it was on in the first place, the CEL reset after about 6 ignition cycles. I read that gas cap CELs go off at about 10 ignition cycles.

Not that anything matters anymore :*(
