Whoops. Sorry.

La Promenade Shopping Center on Laskin. Aldo's Italian Restaurant is in the same parking lot. There will be a completely full lot by 8 or 830.

VA New 8 owner

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a used 05 RX8 Touring model. I was stupid and didn't have a Carfax done b/c the guy who sold me the car was Navy and I'm a Marine so I figured I could trust him (you know, the brothers in arms thing)......NEVER AGAIN! Anyway, I decided to go ahead and get a Carfax b/c after our transaction he wouldn't text or call me back. I call the dealership where it was serviced and they told me that he'd broke down on 95 with oil light flashing and had towed to dealership. Also, the previous owner to him had the engine replaced so it's on its second engine. Basically, I'm asking if anyone here in the HR area has extensive experience with 8's or can recommend a very reliable and credible shop that I can take it to if need be. I'll only be here a couple more months but would love to come to a meet if there are any happening any time before June.

Thanks,
Anthony

You might want to check my new owner's thread (See my signature) for much of the basics. Engine replacements in this car are VERY common, and a replacement in the history is not immediately a problem. Often we recommend people find RX-8s on a fresh engine, it's that common.

The oil light also does not flash, it's either on or it's not, it's just a trip sensor for oil level. So I am unsure if the light was just on, or if a different light was flashing. The common flashing light is the CEL, and flashing always indicates a misfire, which is most commonly caused by failure to maintain healthy ignition (but can be caused by many other things too).

Angel Motorsports.

Come out to a Jenros meet Friday or Saturday, if you see rotarys everywhere look for Mike.

Sorry, wrong terminology about flashing oil light. I probably should have read this prior to making my purchase. Actually, I joined and read a few things prior to but the appeal of the 8 sucked me in and I was blinded by my desire to have one since it's finally an affordable vehicle for me. Oh well, I love it and lesson learned. Good thing I like being under the hood and chassis and somewhat competent with automotive repair/modifications. Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

Anthony

Well, I went out to Jenros tonight. Unfortunately not my type of scene or crowd for that matter. It was worth checking out but definitely not for me. I'd prefer a meet geared more towards just RX8 owners and maybe discuss maintenance practices, etc. This seemed more like a bunch of kids showing off their toys. I'm 37 yrs old and more interested in learning about this engine/car all inclusively. Therefore, I can properly maintain my 8 and keep it as long as it will have me. Anyway, to each their own but not for me. Again, thanks for letting me know about it Shadowphox.

Hi everyone, long time no see (I'm sure I'm somewhere early in this thread) - Currently Cavalier Mazda in Chesapeake is telling me I need a new engine. I'm trying to save some coin and shopping around if anyone can do the work cheaper. I have low compression on one of the points of my engine - Anyone know where I can get the work done at a reputable location that won't make my car worse off than it already is?

I rebuilt my own engine 2 years ago. I bought the parts from mazda trix but it's actually cheaper to get a remanufactured block if you can from mazda. If you do the work yourself you will be in the hole for about $2k. Many places like rotary resurrection require you to send your block and they try to reuse as much of your parts as possible. Until you open up there is no telling what the damage is really. Could be easy as a carbon locked seal or worst case the apex seal broke and damaged rotors housings or side housings. Good luck to ya though.

Just got my Nordic Green beauty on Friday, and looking to see what get-togethers there are on the Southside. I saw a guy in the service department at Hall Mazda VB this morning that had an rx8club.com sticker on his car but didn't think to say anything to him, but it's good to know this place is being repped.

The Facebook Virginia chapter page said something about meeting in Williamsburg on the 23rd of this month. Does anyone know if this is confirmed and who all else here is planning on going? I look forward to it.

It is indeed confirmed, and I will be going. It'd be cool to go up with someone else from the VB area.

As a reminder, the meet-up in Willaimsburg is on for tomorrow. We're gathering at the Food Lion at 5601 Richmond Rd, then rolling into Applebees as a group.
If you're in the VB area, drop me a line and we can roll up there as a group.
