Frickin' Congressional Mazda

Okay, not a huge deal maybe, but it annoyed me.

So I bring my car there for my 5000 mile oil change. I ask Pat, the good, experienced, long-time service guy there if they will use 5w20 oil.

He says yes, of course, it's an RX8! I say cool, and leave my car.

Later, retrieving my car, I find that they've put 5w30 in. The shop-manager type explains that they buy in bulk, it won't hurt the car, etc. Okey-dokey.

I'm pissed mostly because they said one thing and did another. I have yet to write a complaint email with them, but wanted to vent, mostly.

I've taken my Mazdas to Congressional for years, so I am sorry to hear about this (but glad you mentioned it). I've always brought my own oil (Mobil 1) for my Protege ES -- now I suppose I'll have to bring my own 5W-20 for my RX-8, too.

Congressional did the same thing to me a few weeks ago. I called them on it the next day and told them to make sure all future RX8s get the proper oil. I guess they were hard of hearing.

I had my oil changed at 5,000. The invoice indicated the car had 10-30 installed. I pointed this out to the service manager. We had the oil discussion before the car was serviced. The explanation I was given seemed to make sense. He told me the car had 5-20 installed and the computer system used for printing the invoice was not updated to use the proper code for 5-20. Therefor it the oil code on the invoice was still 10-30. Who knows?

Heh. Here I thought I was the only one who brought their own oil for OC's. The service crew always looked at me like I was a moron. :p

5w-30 will not hurt your 8.

I actuly like it better than the 20.
