DC Metro Rx-8s?

I just got my velocity red 6 speed w/ GT & black leather today! :D
I was wondering there are any other DC Metro (MD & VA) RX-8 owners out there. So far I've only seen one other red w/ GT on I-270. Where are you guys hiding?

Cool, I may see you there during the weekday. I go there from time to time to chill at the B&N.

So far I've only see one RX-8. There's a red one thats always parked in front of Pioneer on Gaither Rd in Gaithersburg, MD.

I've never seen an RX-8 moving on the road though.

Another opportunity for a little get together is prior to the Mazda Sports Car Club meeting Wednesday night (*edit* October 1st) at Fuddruckers in Tysons Corner. It is on Spring Hill Road next to/behind Rosenthal Mazda/Nissan, across from Rosenthal Jaguar. Folks start showing up in their Mazdas between 6:30 and 7. Anyone can attend the meeting at 7:30 inside. We'll have a short video (thanks, Elara and Steve:D ) from the first Mid-Atlantic RX-8 Festival held at the Virginia International Raceway.

After the meeting, weather cooperating, folks hang out with the cars again.

P.S. Saw my first RX-8 on the road at the same time as mine this morning. Passed a Winning Blue on Fairfax County Parkway at I66 around 7:30AM. It still had temp tag, the 45-day one you get while waiting for a vanity plate, I think.

I wish I could be there, but there's no way I'd make it through Rush Hour traffic here and up there. And as we are missing a person at work today and I'm doing her job and mine, I couldn't get off early if my life depended on it.

Carl, do me a favor and turn down the sound on the video! Unless you guys REALLY like goofy Euro-pop/dance. I'd rather that was not the first impression the club has of us!

Hopefully I'll be there too. Is there going to be a drive afterwards?

I guess I showed up too late! I got there at 830ish and there was like two people there. Nice meeting you ZoomZoomH! There was also a crunched 6 on the side of the road in front of the Honda dealership. I feel sorry for that guy.

I think I parked next to you, I owned the Red 8 w/ black leather. The crowd was definitely much older than I expected.

yeah turnout wasn't as good as couple months ago, when it was warm & bright and FDs were out in droves :p

I stayed with the mazda6 guys that were there to wait for the tow truck to arrive to pick up the banged up black 6, that's why I was able to catch ninedeep's RX-8 as he shows up to a nearly empty Fuddrucker parking lot :D

Ryan are you the guy with the yellow RX-8 there?

and chopsticker I saw your car too :p

I was standing there on the corner as you were leaving and we were shouting for you to pull over our way. The meeting crowd did disappear more quickly than normal. Guess the air was too nippy for folks that forgot to dress the part. Anyway, next month, okay? I know a lot of folks would love to see your car and the changes you have made.

Elara, I had to leave the meeting to take pictures of the accident scene noted above. (no injuries) Someone else started your video in my abscence and turned up the audio. Sorry. When I returned I announced to everyone not to hold that against you. You will still be welcomed by the group despite any misgivings in your musical tastes.:D

Also good to meet chopsticker and Dont_be_a_Rikki.

Maybe we should plan a little drive later this month to find some fall colors and photo opportunities for our RX-8s. I heard that the leaves are taking longer to change because of all our rain. So the club's drive on Saturday OCT 4 may be too early to get the really good pictures.

Let me check some routes and I will post proposal soon. As I said, this weekend is probably too early. A good start/meet point in the past has been the Bob Evans restaurant, exit 60, I66, west of I495. Do you guys prefer Saturday or Sunday? This month or next? I can't do Oct 25/26. PMs welcome if you don't want to respond in the open.

TreknMazda: Sorry about that. While we where in the parking lot talking to other people at Fudruckers, my passenger had some emrgency drama to attend to and we had to leave right away. other than that I would have stopped by to talk to you. There is always a next time though.

I hope everyone involved in the accident is ok!

Do you want to drive on a track or just go to one?
Driving is probably out of the question on such short notice.

There is the SCCA MARRS at Summit Point Raceway this weekend. Summit Point has two tracks, soon to be 3. They have a "Friday at the Track" event monthly or more often for folks to get on track in their own car. Summit Point is 1 hour from DC

The other "nearby" track is VIR as Elara has mentioned. That's 4+ hours from DC.

MSCW and Mazda Driving Associates use both raceways for their weekend track driving events throughout the year. And MSCW has our autocross session coming up soon. See the sticky above.

.
never mind; i just went to summit point's web site and read over there, you must be in by 7:45 am to attend some sort of class before getting in the wheel , then have your car looked at.. they could do this in a Saturday or even Sunday instead.. people DO work on Fridays.. any other solutions?

But on Saturday and Sunday they either have races (for which they get paid big bucks) or club events (for which they get paid big bucks). And there are no weekends when there isn't one or the other. It got so crowded, that's why we also do club events at VIR. You may want to consider just waiting for the next track event we have in March unless someone here in the NE knows of another event sooner.
