Copy of 2004 RX-8 Title Needed!

Hi everyone,

I'm going through a salvage inspection for the first (and last) time with a 2004 RX-8 I recently bought. I made the mistake of buying a bumper from a body shop that had taken it off a customer's car who was in to get aftermarket bumpers installed. The body shop gave me the VIN for the donor car, but the inspectors are refusing to pass me because I don't have a copy of the title for the donor car.

Is there anyone here who could provide me a copy of their title that I could use to pass this inspection? I'd be glad to pay someone for their trouble. My only other option at this point is to buy a brand new bumper from the dealer, have them take off the one I purchased, swap the new with the old, get the car re-inspected, and then have the dealer swap the bumpers again, leaving me with an extra bumper.

Thanks everyone!

Post your location. This will help.
I would but my bumper has headlight washers (i'm in Canada).
Good luck!

This sounds exceedingly odd.

I caution anyone to get more information before providing a copy of your title to a first time poster on the web.

Why would a copy of the title of the donor car of a bumper be needed at all, for any reason. If it fits, it's clearly from the same make and model. I get that it's a salvage inspection, but this makes zero sense. The bumper isn't even a structural component!

I wondered the exact same thing and asked why I would need the title; I was told that the receipt with VIN was not sufficient to prove ownership of the bumper; that for all they knew, the body shop had received them as stolen and that if I wanted to use the replacement bumper I would need to prove ownership with a copy of the title. I will send a copy of the rejection slip to anyone who is able to provide the title so they know I'm not trying to do any scamming.

Thanks!

Thanks for your concern, but this was a post asking for help; not warnings. If you'd ever gone through one of these inspections then you might know what a nightmare it's been.

I'm only looking to pass this stupid thing so I can register the car I bought.

Again, anyone who is willing to help can see a copy of my rejection notice before they send me a copy of the title so they know I'm not trying to scam them.

Thank you to everyone who is willing to help a fellow RX-8 owner.
