I am going to do it soon but what parts are critical to cover with aluminum foil?

Can someone give me the for dummies version explanation?

 

I got what to do now but my mechanic recommended a product called Gunk. I wonder how that compares to the non-toxic stuff the op used???

 

I never used anything other than soap and water. Of course, my engine bay was never FILTHY... But if you do use any products, ensure you read the labels. Some don't work well with plastic and/or metal.

 

Oh well just called the dealership. They HIGHLY recommended NOT to do this. I was I was like how is the engine bay suppose to get cleaned then? So...I decided to use the degreaser on a cloth and then warm water on a separate cloth to wipe down the big areas.(Away from any sensors and electronics.) Why take a chance. I am not a professional and do-not have a warranty on the car anyway.
