Car in service! Missing it already. detailed the rental a tiny bit

Brought my 8 in for the 30K service. Brought Royal Purple Max-gear 75W90 for the tranny/rear diff fluid change. In addition to that, complained about squeaking clutch, squeaking driver's seat and rattling glovebox.

Got a Mazda3 as a rental. OK, pretty good, but when is my car coming back?

Turns out that they are replacing the seat rails to fix the squeaking driver's seat. However, the parts are coming in tomorrow, so the car is staying there overnight and I spend more time with the white Mazda3.

Oh well! Missing my 8 already! Having withdrawal symptoms.

While waiting to hear from the dealership, I polished half the rental's hood. Yes, I'm crazy. I washed the rental's hood, put masking tape down the middle and then clayed, polished and waxed half of the hood. I wanted to see how radically different an only-washed, unwaxed, unpolished, unclayed portion of the hood would look. Unfortunately, the paint was white and so it was really hard to tell the difference... it was there, but not obvious. Probably would've been more obvious in full sun. Definitely was a major reduction in swirls though.

But then I felt bad leaving one side of the hood unwaxed, so I waxed it as well, but with a different wax (both synthetic).

Swirly:

to a lot less swirly:

Can't wait to get the car back!

Got the car back! They fixed up the seat, couldn't repro the clutch squeak (will have to wait until it comes back in a stronger force, I s'pose), and readjusted the glovebox (doesn't seem to rattle anymore).

The tech did write "Recommend cooling service." I'm not sure whether it's for real (like some type of problem/deterioration w/ the cooling service), or whether they are trying to guilt-trip me into doing it. They said that they do a coolant change for 30K service, but the maintenance schedule II in the manual says not to do it until 60K. I don't know, I'll probably do it at 35K, since the tech is recommending it and all. *shrugs*

The Mazda Full Circle report card says "green" for all 4 brakes--according to the legend, that's 50% or more brake pad remaining. Strange, I would've expected them to be mostly worn by 30K.

Oh yeah, and it's very nice to have the car back!

I haven't had a cold morning start yet, but the transmission when warmed up is definitely smoother with the new transmission fluid, although not that huge a difference. But most of the difference is supposed to be when it's cold.

Ira is actually futher away, about a 45 min drive. I bought my car at Ira because they gave me a better trade-in price. After that, I have been going to Ira for service as well because I read some good reviews on here. So far so good. My recall service at Ira was good.

If you are unhappy and looking for a good dealership, I recommend North End Mazda in Lunenburg.

It's a hell of a hike for you I'm sure but they've been pretty good to me so far.

Changing coolant takes like an hour. Get the tools, I will show you how to change it. Yes, you should do it at 30K, just not at $100

I am going to change my oil tomorrow, and you are welcome to use my garage. You have to promise me not to leave a mess, though.

I am near NH, west of Lowell. If you want to come by, PM me.

OK, I'll get it done soon then.

Pardon the ignorance, but why do it at 30K if the manual says not to do it until 60K? (*needs education*)
