Any VA RX-8s with SmartTag/EZ Pass?
Any VA RX-8s with SmartTag/EZ Pass?
Does anyone have this? Does it fit at the top of the windshield without a problem? Also, what about the "strips" that you use to attach it--since it must attach to the tinted section above the rear-view mirror, do you think the adhesive will stick to this material and give problems if you want to remove it? Just wondering before I order a Smart Tag.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Don't have it on my 8 but I have experience with it.
The strips are a clear plastic Velcro type design. The adhesive is very stick and I wouldn't recommend placing it on that black tint behind the mirror as it requires a razor to remove it. If you place it to the right of that tint strip it should be out of your line of sight and in a good position for the receiving unit. It does not need to be centered to work.

I have EZ Pass, rather than sticking the clear plastic adhesives to the window I went to Pep Boys. They carry an EZ Pass holder that has small suction cups for about $4. Works like a charm, I put it up just over the mirror on the black sun tint, you don't notice it while driving. Bonus is that I can take it down and put it in the rear console when not needed.
i have it underneath the tint but behind the homelink mirror, i dont really see it, and if i wanna take it off all thats left are little velcro strips, not too big a deal.
Edit: i added a picture of the unit

I just keep mine in the glove box & take it out & hold it up (arrows facing you & upwards) when I need it. I dont use it every day to commute like some of you. Wish they were black & not white & then it wouldnt distract from the windshield so much from the outside. On my Malibu I drove previously, it was mounted on the front license plate.
I'm in NJ but mine is in a frame type holder above the mirror.(drivers side) I even covered my tag in black speaker fabric to make sure I couldn't see it from outside. My car is all balck so a white ez pass tag was out of the question! I'm a little crazy about things like that. I also have my V1 radar detector up above the mirror.(Passenger side)
I knew RX-8 owners would have some good responses for an **** question like that! Thanks! Looks like the one with suction cups is the answer; then I can switch between cars as well.

well i dont kow if you can transfer between cars, the transmitters are tied to a license plate number, and they take a picture of your license plate at each tollbooth to see if it matches (if you were ever wondering what the bright light at the exit of a toll was, thats for the camera...cheese
)
Mine is wedged between the rearview mirror and windshield. It straddles the middle beam and is pressed against the head liner. I took full advantage of the two-way adjustable mirror. I can take a picture when I get home if you want.
I just applied for one. I'll have to head over to Pep boys to look for a holder as someone described. Obviously PA Turnpike Commision have no designers and wanted to save bucks. It could of been so much smaller ( Sony made a playstation 2 smaller

Wayne, The EZ pass holder works great, usually Pep Boys has them right at their checkout. What I like about it is that I can remove it without leaving something on the windshield. The EZ pass agreement does say that it is not transferable to other vehicles, but if you read the fine print it says that you can be ticketed if it is used for a vehicle of another class (like a commercial vehicle when you registered your personal car) I have three EZ pass (one for each car) but I do use mine in rental cars, never had a problem or EZ pass violation show up.
I used the strips on the tint above the mirror. No problems in 18+ months. I do remove the EXpass to use in the RX-7 from time to time. They gave me another set of strips for the second car. Velcro strips are not noticeable when pass is off unless you look for them.
You can use the pass in different vehicles as long as they are the same class, i.e. cost the same toll. In one of the periodic statements they included a card to send back with the make, model, color and tag of each vehicle I use the pass in.

I keep mine loose too and just hold it in my hand on top of the steering wheel or place it on the dash when I need it. I don't go on the toll-road that often, so I just usually keep it in the glove box.
