Katchoo, definitely let us know what you think. I bought my car at First Team, but the only experience with service so far was a drop off for the M-flash a few days after I got it. They were good with that one. The sales guys didn't know about the update but the service guy looked it up, said it hadn't been done and got it done that day. I'm just at 600 miles, so a ways to go.

I posted another thread about this, but got no responses. Has anyone here had any experiences with Hall Mazda service dept?

Hey Everyone. I'm in Norfolk. I have a Ti Grey 8 that I purchased in March from Hall. I have had great service from them (that is for you Hammer).

Regarding Service in our area, I've had good experience with Casey Imports on Jefferson.

But reading some of the posts here, I may be the exception. Although me using them for my RX-7 for the last 14 years, and getting to personally know each of the 3 service writers they've employed during that time might have had some influence.

As far as the technicians go, Lenny was a straight RX-7 man, and did not attend any RX-8 school prior to his leaving. The new guy (John, I think) has been thru the coarse. And yes they've made a couple minor goofs on me since I got my RX-8 in January. But I've always been able to get some "consideration" in return from the current service rep (Perry) -- like a free labor on an mp3 install, courtesy oil changes, etc. Whatever the case, I've always been provided a decent loaner or rental car (though not an RX-8, LOL!). They also have offered up any replacement of parts (and flashes) covered by service bullitens that I might not yet have read up on myself. But that's just me, YMMV.

Any more updates on Hampton Roads service? Since I'm southside, I'm hoping someone's got some more positive info on Hall or 1st Team.

I have had mine to Hall 3 times, once for recall (M flash) and twice for oil change. I am a little undecided at this point. Always courtious. Their loaner cars are from a rental car place, I really hated that because you have to wait for the rental service to pick you up and then fill out all their paperwork. It was time consuming and the loaner car sucked! If is free but not worth it as far as I could see. I complained and Hall let me turn the rental into them and they got it back to the rental place.

The second oil change they overfilled my oil and I did not Notice it for two fill ups of gas and it was still too full. That kind of scared me. They took care of it but I would have thought they would have known how much to put in it. 3.7 quarts is all it takes!

I called to get another 8 and haven't gotten a call back yet and it has been 2 weeks. I want a manual trans this time!

If you go, let me know what you find out. I have to take mine in for another oil change and a replacement on the center console lid. When I mentioned it they told me it was supposed to be like that and they took me to the showroom and showed me a new car, and it was like that too. I told them that mine was not like that when I bought it and the new showroom car must be broken also. But then I just dropped it.

They called me on my way home and told me that they were wrong and they looked at some other new cars in the back and they were not broken so they ordered me a new lid and I have to take it back to have it installed!

Hope this is helpful! Let me know how it turns out if you go to Hall!

Nice to hear they 'fessed up to the mistake. Clearly they didn't know the car enough up front, but to call you back is definite plus. Still, I'll probably start with First Team since I bought the car there and it's closer to work.
I can't believe they haven't called you back on a potential sale, though! They've got 7 MT's on the lot. Did you want to order one? The factory fire may have messed that up.
Been out in the snow?

I am trying First Team as we speak...but only their body shop (got rear-ended) and an update to the PCM (Casey installed a corrupted file and then couldn't fix it because they didn't have the 'old' M-flash on file - dumb bunnies!). Anyway, I did have an oil change at First Team a few months ago and that went off without a hitch. But would you expect an oil change to be a no-brainer? LOL

Anyway, I shall let you know about First Team later...

I decided not to go back to Casey....the RX-8 team lead that I was talking to just didn't understand and really refused to listen to what I was saying. We were just talking passed (past?) one another.

He pulled up a computer screen and told me that was the complete maintenance history of my car (2 PCMs done). I told him that was in error and could count on my fingers (I use those alot to count) the number of time it had been reflashed that I knew about (4). He went back and said nope...only 2. Then I went back and went nope...four UNLESS a couple of your service writers lied to me and said they did something but didn't. *crickets chirping*

Either they didn't enter all the flashes into the data-base or they lied to me. But the whole encounter was bad...we just didn't communicate and I drove 100 miles there and back for nothing - no resolution on any of my car's issues (I have a ton of issues of my own but that is another story). Oh...it turned out that the last visit I made there was about the same thing - they did nothing to fix any of the smaller problems and thus I sat around their lobby for 4 hours for nothing.

Just can't take that anymore...if I am going to get poor service then I might as well get poor service closer to home (First Team).

Katchoo - nice to see i'm not the only Nordic Green in the area.

as for maintenance, Hall has made me nervous by over-filling my oil both times I went in for the oil change. the service guy seemed to think it was fine......ah, yeah. I'm also still waiting to have my front brake pads replaced from the squeeking noise.

Thanks for the posts. Did everyone with overfilled oil drain it or just burn it off?
I haven't seen a Nordic Green in real life yet so I'll be looking for you guys!

Well, mine will be over at Hall Mazda tonight to have the brake pads replaced. I called them yesterday, and apparently they had a bunch of them in stock.

I can't wait since this will be the 1st time in about a week when I'll be at highway speeds, otherwise it's stop-and-go traffic from the house onto the base.....i feel like a kid with a new toy.

I took it back and had them correct it! First they said that they did a complete new oil change with a new filter and then the mechanic was looking at the console and he said that all he did was drain out the excess. Conflicting information!

I want the same car I have or a 2005 but man tran instead of auto.

I have been in the snow both times that it snowed this year. I hated the salt that it left on my car. I hate to wash it when it is cold! brrrrr :p

Did the basic oil change at First Team today and no problems. Since this was the first time and I've read the horror stories of the stuck-on factory filters, I let the dealership do it. I picked up a filter and gasket for the next go round at home.

It took them 40-45 minutes (and they weren't busy), but no smudge marks, put 4 quarts of 5-20 Castrol and everything back in place. Oil level right at the top line. Service manager was really friendly & reminded me that they usually have a line starting at 7:30 AM for the 8 o'clock start & advised an early show (if I do it again) or the wait can go for hours. I got there at 10:30 today; up late last night!

Thumbs up!
