From when I cleaned my fuel pump sock, the tank is essentially two tanks, like Ryan remembers.

Now, at the risk of sounding stupid, this is what I remember from visually looking in the tank of the donor, and my old car. Essentially, there is a pump on the Driver side to pump the fuel to the lower intake manifold. There is also a pump on the Pass side to pump fuel from the pass side of the tank to the driver's side where it can picked up by the main fuel pump.

The reason I doubt myself is that you never hear about this "other" fuel pump having problems. But the way the tank is designed, in a sweeping left hander, the fuel would stay up against the Pass side wall of the fuel tank, not allowing either fuel pump to get it...which explains the starvation.

Now, as for the quarter tank to empty, I'm sure the design of the tank is to blame for that also... but I haven't given this enough thought to come up with an incorrect theory.

You can't do the track with the kind of speeds your doing without 3/8 tank, Tom. It was definitely fuel starvation.

RK, I can't change the fuel pump: takes points.

BIG thanks to Tom for helping me at the track this weekend!!!

Maybe you never heard of this "other" pump because there isn't one
Its simply siphoned from the passenger side of the tank through a pick-up.

Been awhile since we had a "Steve Repair" weekend, those use to be very common
I'll bring the trans jack, Steve Tool, and band-aids...

Well, the fuel from one side needs to get to the DS fuel pump. so whether its pumped or siphoned, if there is no fuel where the pickup hose is, then no fuel gets shifted from side of the tank to the other.

Meh, solid principle argument, I just didn't have the technicals correct.

Yea... I'm not going to say I don't miss those... but I do like having a car that shows up pretty much ready to race each week. It'll be a few weeks before I get the new parts for the clutch, though.

I have been putting off some minor tweaks of crap that has broken each week.

The hood doesn't latch all the way unless I push on it forcefully 10-20x.
The drivers side speaker rattled loose and cuts in and out.

There is some mysterious clicking when I start from a stop or go from reverse to first. 2 clicks, one from each rear wheel area.

Diff fluid needs changed.

And I mentioned clutch

Welcome Boyyo.
I looked through previous threads from you... looks like you have not had luck with dealers.
Around here, we avoid the dealers as much as possible and do our own repairs.
Combined... we've done just about everything to the RX8, so you are better off asking us for advice before going the "dealer route".
And we are more tolerable with newbie questions, so ask us to avoid getting flamed by the masses on the rest of the site.

Will anyone be attending this weekends race at Mid-Ohio? I am going down Saturday morning for the day to see the good racing, aka ALMS and World Challenge.

Hmm.. that is an interesting idea. I have to make a trip to Newark OH outside Columbus. Perhaps I could go check out the race?

On a different note... its quite dead in here. Anyone feel like getting together in next weekend?

Jon: I have your intake manifolds put aside also.

found out on my bday (july 29) that my wonderful job here at goodyear is most likely going byebye at the end of august. good times... wasnt the birthday present i'd have hoped for... happy bday to me... happy bday to me... was all i could think when my boss gave me the news.

sucked even worse telling the wife. nothing much more heart wrenching than making her cry except that i managed to... the baby started crying because mom was crying. yea i was ready to smoke a shotgun barrel.

You know what they say! When one door closes... you're left in an empty room behind a closed door.

Hey guys. Been a while lol thought I'd drop in the wife is doing a lot better now that the doctors are finally done raping me. Anyway lol. Steve I'm up for next weekend for sure. As long you don't decide to have a beer in Timbuktu again lol like last time.

So how is everyone?

Jon, Steve I notice I have a little hesitation at high rpm with the AC on. And I hear a hiss at times too when AC is on. Normal? Or beginning of the end for my engine?

I thought about heading down for that but decided against it. The huge crowds that show up (because the Indy cars also race this weekend) are just a little to NASCAR-like for me.

Steve, are you talking this coming weekend? The next after that is an HPDE weekend at Mid Ohio.

Shinka, really sorry to hear about your job troubles. Hopefully your luck will turn.

Its like the guy that goes to the doctor and says "my arm really hurts when I do this......"

And the doctor turns to him and says, "well don't do that"

I seem to remember this being normal. But to put your mind at ease. turn off the A/C and ensure the engine revs normally. If it does, its probably just added resistance from the compressor at high rpm. If it doesn't rev & pull like normal, then you might have a problem that's worth looking into.

Lol well not doing that means no AC in a black car...... it's bad enough with the AC on lol!
When the AC is off she pulls normal all the way to redline. I figured it would be normal but doesn't hurt to ask

I do agree that the IRL people are annoying, but Saturday usually has only a few cave men and more sports car fans since Indy is only qualifying. I believe there may be a few C-bus guys there but I haven't checked back with that in awhile.

Does anyone else get Road and Track Magazine? I don't have it in front of me, but I there is an add near the front with what I believe to be Eric Meyer's car in the foreground. Not in the add, but its definitely a white S2 RX8 with Grand Am stickers on it.

I forgot all other details, including what the ad was for. Good job marketing peoples.

Got a weird rattle coming from the car at low rpms when accelerating from a dead stop. Sounds like metal on metal rubbing. If my heat shield is loose would it rattle only at certain times? They told me last time i changed my oil that it was loose.

Yes
I have steel wire around my exhaust manifold just to hold the shield together.

I'm free (for now) if we get something scheduled.

As some of you already know, I purchased a Hummer H2 this past Friday:
Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-hummer-h2.jpg

Looks like I get to tear into it early!
The rear-end keeps "squatting" when the vehicle is at rest.
If I raise the ride height (air springs) I can actually see the back slowly drop and the compressor kicks on to re-inflate the bags.
Don't want to keep it like this for too long or I could burn-out the compressor.
Not sure if the bags were ever changed out, but that is my first suspect.

I'll have to get with the dealer in the morning to find out what my opinions with them are, but I'm already prepping for this to be a DIY job.
Needless to say... I've already downloaded the service manual
