Against the Law to Have No Badges on Car

I live in Viriginia and was wondering if there is a law that prevents me from removing all the badging on my car. I'd like to lose the Mazda symbols and stuff (front is gone already because of the MS front). I want to debadge the rear completely.

Anything I should worry about?

Hell of a question...............I wouldn't think it would be illegal, but I'm not sure!

There is no law that states that you have to have badging.

I brought this up with a group a friends, and you know how theres always that one friend that knows a friends sister cousin second babys daddy who got pulled over because they didnt have badging.

But we've never had real evidence and Richmond cops don't ever give us a consistant answer.

Not sure about legal problems but with the trunk badges on the RX-8, be aware that some of them are drilled to the trunk.. Dunno which ones (one isn't drilled I think) but if you had them removed, there'd be some holes left.

lol, pretty funny. it's not illegal to take off your emblems, but if an officer pulls you over, it could take a while if they don't know what car it is.

I had originally planned on getting a CF trunk and then this possible problem came up.

Im already riding around without a front plate(no harrassment yet), just wanted to know what else they could possibly pull me for.

I've looked through VA code for a variety of things and haven't run across any badge issues. There's not a compelling legal reason to require badges; your plate is what ID's the car. Check through the code yourself to be sure, though: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...cod+TOC4602000

Since you could (in theory) build your own car and get it registered to be street legal, i don't see how there can be a law that you have to have badges on it.

Then there is the whole kit car market that comes with zero badging

It is not illegal, that is what your registration is for.

it's not a law thats whats the tags and regestration are for along with the vin.#s.
they won't ask if it's a lambo when they know what it is and how many cars are running around in va that look like a mazda rx8?only in california where they change anything and everything would you see a car that might be but ain't a mazda rx8!and the answer is the law is not against the badging it's against bad driver's!

I discussed this with a couple State cops in my neighborhood awhile back. They indicated that as long as you had a valid registration and inspection sticker they couldn't care less about badging or lack thereof.

I didn't ask them about a front license plate, because I didn't want to know the answer to that one ....

to simply put this, no its not illegal to go badges or even change it!

i've recently been pulled over and cited for exceeding speed limit. i have customized badges. they took awhile and just asked " so its an rx-8 huh?". even though they know it and got the vehicle description correct.
but i just answered "yes officer, but i just named her something else". and he just commented "you're just doin ur own lil thing back there", grinned, and handed me my ticket.

so by all means, its not illegal to have whatever you want back there. or even the lack of... you can put any friggin sticker and there shouldn't be any problems with it.

i've even seen a rice'd out mustang with nissan GTR emblem along with VTEC and MUGEN and... an assortment of **** on there.

too bad there's no law against stupidity!

^^ and nowhere on that ford did i see a mustang emblem... but it sure as hell ain't a ford GTR i'l tell you that.

and besides, here in cali if you have a cool car, kids are gonna steal ur badges anyways.

so if ur worried, just tell them there are kids and vandals who steal badges for kicks around ur neighborhood!

and on that note... its kinda lame that my wive's TL did go badgeless unvoluntarily from vandals.

it happens...

lol. I used to work at Richmonds DMV office. We were never trained on anything for de-badging. The only thing close to it is not having a front plate. I have no room to talk I travel in VA all the time with no front tag or inspection sticker.

But now that I have said something I am sure to be pulled over tomorrow. ::knocks on wood::

I just think that crap looks gay. So I live in MD and get away with it. Btw is there a thread started yet for DGRR?

There's no law on the badge thing, that'd be dumb if there was, but for the decepticon thing, I was gonna do that with my 8, I ended up coming up with this whole look for my car that's gonna be black with purple, and dark yellow lighting, like skywarp..

There should be a law for proper US market only badging. No stupid Skyline or Nissan badges on G35's.

Yeah Richmond cops probably wouldn't give two *****, but it IS VA, where they can enforce laws like tint on cars not registered in the state.
