^ If you don't actually know what's causing the problem, don't throw away your money on parts, hoping that one of the parts you replace will solve the problem. Take the car to a Mazda dealer, tell them what's wrong, and let them diagnose the problem and fix it. That's what they're getting paid for.

Look for a vacuum leak - spray shots of brake cleaner at the intake tubing, all over.
The car will sputter when the brake cleaner gets into the leak.

Hey guys I have a 2004 Mazda rx8 touring turbocharged. The car was driving fine and then all of the sudden I downshift and leave the car in neutral and the car wasn't idling right and it shut off ?. Help anyone. Idk what it is and it's getting annoying

rx8 shuts off when you come to a stop

So guys i have the same problem working on girls 2007 rx8 runs rough and shuts of as soon
as you slow down to a stop it dies so i changed spark plugs no results i went to a friend and
we unpluged the wire from the coil not the spark plug wire but the one that brings the power
so i unpluged first wire turn over the engine doesnt start pluged it back same with 2nd and 3rd wires doesnt start but the 4th wire unpluged and car starts so means the 4th coil is bad i told her the results ordered 4 new coils at autozone with lifetime warranty 125$ gonna change them tomorrow and see what happens but very glad i went to a friend he showed how to check those coils , hoping for the best

so apparently this is a common problem
same thing is going on with my 04 MT
I changed the coil packs and cleaned the MAF. still wont idle and dies when in neutral/at a stop. from what ive researched, it could possibly be the air pump or the relay. is this rite? how could I test/check either?

im having a similar issue.
i recently changed my oils and filters and use lucaus for the first time in my gas tank and my cars freaking out.


It shuts off at low rpm and it backfiring insanely loud w a lot of flames.
as i take off from 1st gear-2nd it bogs like its not getting enough air or gas.

planning on checking the intake, and lines, vaccum and spark plugs.

NJ I am having the same problem

Hello,

I have an automatic 2004 with 45000 miles. I take good care of the car. It is garaged and I change the oil regularly. I was driving for 10 minutes and I just lost power and the car stalled. I was unable to re-start it. The local shop where I get oil changes is having trouble finding the problem. They say its not the ignition or fuel pump. 2 months ago I had a CEL on. It turned out that I needed a new CAT. The same shop replaced the CAT with 2 new oxygen sensors; all OEM parts. Since then the car has run well; until this stall. Any thoughts? In case this shop cant ID the problem, does anybody know a mechanic that has experience with this car in the northern New Jersey Bergen county area? I will bring it to the dealer if I have to.... But would rather not. Many thanks!

Hi guys ,
It is such a pain to hear these owners all are facing same type of issues .
I bought my 05 AT RX8 two month ago with very good price and it has only 58000 Miles on it . when i got it was totally flooded so with little research and getting info about this car i bought new set of coils , plugs , wires and new battery , then i did deflood my engine and it was working for 1 week fine then troubles start . first i noticed engine does not have good compassion and i was getting whisper noise and shaking when i was putting it in gear and when i was driving it for less than half hour especially behind the traffic light or when i was pressing break to stop or park the car engine got die , even took me more than half hour to start again .
I have to mention also that in cold start idle is around 1.6 RPM and the engine is drinking huge amount of oil like before any daily start i should fill it by at least 2 quarts oil and total in only 1 month i bought it 10 quarts and i was wondering even there was no any leak at all.
My other big problem is that our mazda dealer doesn't have any service or support for RX8 and they did not help me at all . Now i am just searching about these issues but till now i did get any direct answer ,all are possibility and suggestions to try change the parts and so on.
I hop at least here you can help me to find the solution .

Engine doesn't have good compassion? Or do you mean comression? You're filling 2 quarts of oil daily? Did you check for any leaks? Is it burning all this oil?

Sorry i ment comprassion . No i have not found any leaks and i believe it is burning .on each cold start and especially warm start it gives lot of white smoke out .

05 MT Im having similar problems. Mine idles at 700 to 800 but then dips down to 400 and occasionally dies. Also a couple times a week it will have an erratic idle where it revs itself up to 1500 and then dips fast to 900 and it continues this until I put it in gear. Within the past 3 months I have changed the ignition system, got a red top battery, new mitsubuishi starter, new clutch, cleaned maf, and the cat looks good. I am hoping to get some other input before I take it to the mechanic because around here anyone with a vagina gets fucked over. For example, the last time I took it to the shop for these issues the mechanic said it was all in my head....

So coming back to the 2007 rx8 that i worked on for a friend of mine so she ordered the coils i changed them started the car and it run fine untill warmed up then it started doing the same thing runs rough when warm when driving its fine but as soon as you stop the rpms go down it starts running rough and dies so the rx8's had a recall on their engines they wear out fast so if your car is under 100 thousand miles your covered with a free engine replacement if your engine is bad so do the thing i did go to the dealership and ask if your car is covered they will prolly say no but stay and make them check because its 100% covered to be replaced free sheadule an appointment for a compression test nothing else just the compression test its a 100$ if it fails the compression test the inspection is free along with a new engine! Ive done it my friend is driving her red rx8 and is very happy with the new engine for free!

I read the post online the guy had the same issue and the dealership changed from spark plugs to cat and nothing then they did the compression test so dont waste money buying different parts go make sure your car is covered with a new free engine make them check and then run the compression test it will fail if you have the same issue as i posted

Mine is not covered that is why i am looking for other solutions , in my country our dealer does not have support for RX8 at all and as i found no other countries near me in middle east either

i have a similar issue. my car wont start but you can feel and hear the starter turning the flywheel. i checked the coils and holy crap thier in bad shape. i suggest you get the BHR coils they are pricey but i haven't found anyone that has had them fail yet, so they'll last awhile

Hello everyone my name is Hafeez and i'm driving a 2009 RX8 R3. recently there was a leak in my coolant tank so had to change a new one, since i'v changed the new one my car started to over heat and the coolant sensors were always on, then the mechanic switched the previous sensor with the old sensor, but my car now stops every time i stop revving the engine every red light. it basically only drives normal for 5 min. Plz help me identify the problem

A few years ago I was having similar issues with my 04 MT. I would be driving and the car would just shut off, then start after resting for about 15 minutes. After this happened a couple of times on the interstate, I asked my buddy that races 8's and he said the fuel filter or pump. He just happened to have an extra stock pump and we replaced mine. She hasn't shut off on me since then and that was in 2009/10. The filter was just clogged and fuel couldn't get through after enough pressure built up. But each car is different.

Hey everyone new member here as well as new rotory owner. 2004 rx-8 Gt Mt 38k miles. No test done so far Issue: car starts fine but dies out every time at stop but never dies while rev while park and letting off throttle (before moving car). Takes 30-40 min till it will start again after it has died otherwise it will crank but not start and have killed my battery by multiple attempts of trying to start car (replaced battery as old one fail battery test). There is carbon burnt smell like a burnt clutch smell reeking through my cabin area ether sitting in car while running and or while driving.

Car has been bought 5 months ago with this problems and have been just garage kept ever since bought as its just a project car. I've worked on cars before just never a rotory motor. I appreciate your time and consideration in my matter mahalo.

P.S came with after market exhaust not sure if just cat back set up haven't looked underneath yet. Not sure on exhaust brand. Aftermarket air intake K&N not sure if original filter box no cover. Car sounds amazing nice sound while revving no power lost except one time while driving 70-80 mph during wide open throttle car seized to continue as if it lost compression or gas rpm's dropped slowly no response while pressing gas pedal lights everything was ok had to pull over waited about 45 min till it started back up again and I just took it easy on the throttle for the remainder of 20 mile drive and got home ok.

Could be alot of things. Ignition, clogged cat, fuel pump overheating or even engine compression. When was the last time you changed spark plugs, wires and ignition coils. Chances are if you still have the original ignition at 38k they're done.

The fuel pump has been known to overheat if there is less than a 1/4 tank of gas. That smell you have may be the CAT, whip it off and check if is blocked. Ensure the battery terminals are clean and secure.

Thanks for the reply GK1707&CRO8TIA. The only thing I know so far when bought was transmission is brand new and the motor is original motor and haven't done a full tune up yet as I have no access of a garage at this moment I'll keep you guys updated on the matter and condition of plugs and wires. Also I am the 3rd owner of this car but no car facts on vehicle history. I've done a lot of research and completely understand the concept on how rotory works just not the technical areas already mention. fuel pump struck me by surprise thanks for that did not know. Thinking of removing front bumper to allow better access for my hd jack no low profile jack available. I will try to get some pictures up.

You can drive onto some boards to give you clearance, it's what I do.
