Thumbs up STL Get Together-Late Aug. or Early Sept.

I am in the early stages of organizing another get together for the STL RX8's. I am looking at late August (the last weekend) or early September (the weekend after labor day). Either Saturday or Sunday, depending on a concesses here. If we want to go to a dealership again which would probably do more for us than the last one did, it will most likely have to be on a saturday. I dont care, but if enough people want to go to a dealership again than I will set that up. I have a good contact at Bommarito Ellisville and he thought that he could get the bosses to ok some good stuff (since they already ok'd him to put aftermarket wheels on some of the rx8's on the lot).
I am also not sure about the destination. The winery was super cool last time, but I would like to go to a different place. I was thinking about going up to Alton, IL, by way of the two river ferries which have lots of fun roads (and how would 12 RX8's look on a river ferry). Then we could go down the great river road and eat at Fast Eddies or somewhere like that (im not too familiar with alton).
Well everybody let me know your thoughts so I can get some stuff working this week.
I already have an idea for october of going to octoberfest in herman, but that is almost three months away.

The dealership idea is a good one. I've never taken a ferry so that would be cool also. I've heard a lot about Fast Eddies but have never been, so another good idea to me. I just don't get out enough.

Fast Eddies has some awesome food and it's all under $2.00. It would be a very good place for everyone to meet and socialize, and if it's done during the day there shouldn't be any problems with crowds. During the evenings (even on weekdays) it can get crowded, but on a Friday or Saturday night, I've been there when it's standing room only.

If we're crossing on the ferries and heading into Alton, we'll have to go through Grafton, and though I've been through there but never stopped, I've heard there's some shopping along the main drag. I'm not familiar enough with it, but it may be a nice little stop if you want to look around.

One idea I had for a meet was possibly renting Gateway's roadcourse, but I don't know if it would be prohibitively expensive.

I think gateways roadcourse would cost some serious money, somewhere around the $10k-$20k range. There are already a couple of track events there that anybody can enter. I think for this meet the drive will probably up to alton across the rivers via ferry and then go to fast eddies. I will work on the dealership thing tomarow and see if I can get something going.

I have it on my list to start planning a meet too. If we do Bommarito, then that kinda rules out going to the River Road ... that's a long way to drive. But I suppose it's do-able.

How about we plan 2 events. One scenic drive Labor Day weekend, and then a dealership event end of September.

For the scenic drive, we should go up the River Road to Grafton, and eat at the Loading Dock. It's nice, plenty of seating right on the river bank. Fast Eddies is impossible for a large group, and it's always so loud in there that you can't talk. There's also a winery in Grafton on top of the hill overlooking the river. You get about a 50 mile view over the flood plain, it's nice. Then maybe we could take the ferry back to the MO side and back down Hwy 79.

For the dealer event, I'll talk to some vendors and the dealership to get a few raffle items. I could probably get us a cat-back or something big to give away.

I think we on the rx8 board want to do an rx8 only meet. The last one you planned was really cool, but almost all of the 7 owners seemed to shun us and would not really talk to us so I think this time we want to do an 8 only event. If anybody who was there last time wants to chime in on this please do so so it doesnt seem like it was only me who thinks this. Also, I think doing something labor day weekend will be impossible to get many people to attend due to family things, thats why I did not suggest it.

If you want to do an RX-8 owners only event because the RX-7 owners ignored you, then what are you trying to say? They ignored you, so you're going to ignore them back? That makes sense ...

I'll have no part of an RX-8 only event. It's all rotary, or you're on your own.

Get together

I'm new and this is my first posting. I would be up for a get together the end of August or beginning of Oct. I'm friends with the V.P. over all the Bommarito stores and worked for him there in the past, so I have some pull at either store. I know Johnny B. (President of the dealerships) fairly well also as I used to work for him and my wife curently works for his sister.

I bought my RX-8 in March, black GT with black and red leather, everything except navigation and I added the fender stakes. I live in unincorporated St. Charles off of O'Fallon Road between 94 and K. I'm close to the wineries, in fact Sugar Creek is 12 miles from my house which we go to often. I would be up for Alton. I haven't driven my 8 on the river road yet.

Eh, I'll go either way. Certainly not for any perceived fault with the 7 guys... it's all an excuse to go out driving in rotary company to me. My weekends are clear except next one (21st, 22nd) when I'll be up in the Chicago area.

Good motoring.

If you guys would listen, you'll learn a lot from the 7 owners. We've been through it all before.

How about this, like a Wednesday (or some day during the week) evening meet for dinner and drinks ... and to plan out the next few events. Sound good? How about Growlers in Creve Coeur next Wednesday at 6pm?

Wednesday (and Monday) evenings are no good for me... the rest are slightly better. Oh well, someone can just post minutes.

Next Wednesday would work for me, though I don't get off work in Florissant until 6:30. If I can be fashionably late, that'll be ok. The perfect day would be Tuesday, but no need to change it on my account. I've never even met you guys yet!

Usually just about any night of the week works for me, but I'm in Seattle the 17th thru the 19th. If it gets postponed until the next week I'll try to make it, if not I'll just catch up on what you guys decide when I get back.

Planning meeting

Are you still meeting this week? My trip to Seattle has been canceled and I could probably make it. I would be great to meet some other Rotary owners...

OK, I'm always confused when someone says "next Wednesday" or similar. Is that today? Or next week?

So how did the meet go. I tried to attend, I printed out a map of where growlers was, IIRC 625 n ballas, but failed to bring the map (or the address with me), drove ballas south of Olive twice and did not see Growlers or any 7s or 8s. Tried north of olive, still no success. Gave up after 10-15 minutes. I only had time to stop by and look at the cars and say HI, didn't have time to stay for a while, and seeing the north bound accident on 270, didn't feel like dilly dallying around, so I gave up. Thought about pulling to the local lexus dealer (Plaza?)and asking where growlers was, but traffic was too much and a simple stop would have taked 15 minutes at that time of day.

So, is there anything happening with this? It's the end of August, begining of September.
