If you are in a RX/Rotary Club.. you can go on Friday's press day and flog the 6 for free.

On sat and sun, you can get in to see everything for free, but to autocross the 6 is $35

There are some pre-order spots for the Dealers to invite you to the VIP (Friday) day. They are limited, and the dealer only gets a certain amount.

How do I know? I just returned from the Friday VIP day in Houston, and I was invited by my dealer!!

Text of invitation:

Dear Tim,

Mazda and Mazda South are teaming up to bring a truly unique driving experience to your area. Mazda Rev It Up is a 3-day event showcasing the driving dynamics only found in Mazda vehicles. At Mazda Rev It Up, paying attendees can learn driving fundamentals from professionals, improve their driving skills through clinics and test their new found learning behind the wheel of the all-new MAZDA6 sports sedan during timed hot laps! And much, much more.

Attendance is very limited and we expect Saturday and Sunday to be completely sold out very soon. However, we’ve added an extra day for VIP customers just like you and we’re picking up the cost your admission. Please plan to join us on Friday, April 25th at Sam Houston Race Park - Beltway 8 North, Houston, TX to experience Mazda Rev It Up. You’ll be able to participate in the professional driving school and skills clinics. Then you’ll buckle in behind the wheel of an all-new, 220 horsepower MAZDA6 sports sedan for a timed hot lap or two. You’ll also be able to drive other great Mazda products like Protegé, Tribute and Miata on customized road courses and view some of the latest Mazda products, including a special sneak preview of the all-new, rotary powered Mazda RX-8!

If you’ve found yourself tapping your foot to the catchy Zoom-Zoom music, here’s an opportunity to tap your foot on the accelerator and experience the soul of a sports car that’s in every Mazda.

To confirm your free admittance, please RSVP to "email address" by Monday, April 21st. Then on Friday, April 25th, please bring this invitation with you, and a guest if you choose, to the Mazda Rev It Up event for your free admission during this VIP day.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to call us, or you can visit the official website at www.mazdarevitup.com . We look forward to seeing you there!
========================
Hope this helps convince YOUR dealer to let you go.

tpryor -

it took some prodding on my part but my dealer did extend the VIP invitation to me today. no "official e-mail" like yours as of yet. i'll follow up on it in a day or so. ...(i'm trying to avoid the "pest" reputation )

rotarynews -

i had no idea that i could just show up on one of the 2 "public" days...i scoured the rev it up site looking for info like that and the closest thing i found was that they allow friends and family of competitors in for free. it's a moot point now though as i'll be going to the friday press/VIP only day.

thnx fellas!

(where are my MO guys...u guys still alive? )

I'm signed up. Some members of the local RX-7 club are going to be there on Saturday.

Does anybody have any confirmation that the RX-8 is actually going to be at this event? All tpyor's e-mail from Mazda says is that there will be a "sneak preview" of the RX-8. What does that mean? That they will have the new brochures for people to look at?

i'm thinking it means that there will be an actual RX8 there. of course, i'm just going off of all the other rev-it-up events i've read reports about on this forum. each one has had an 8 there.

on a side note...when did the new brochure come out? i was out of town all week and i'm too lazy to search the forum right now.

My dealer set me up for VIP status yesterday. Haven't received an invitation yet, but I suppose I will.

By the way, my dealer did this without me even asking. I thought that was pretty cool! Now, If I could just get an update on the status of my order.

Jonalan,

I presume your speaking about Lou Fusz. I was there tonight and reviewed their dealer inventory. They have several models I'm interested in; coming in the first allocation. I saw your order on the list-I recognized your e-mail name. The salesperson, Paul Hinton, said pretty much what this forum has suggested. He expects delivery for the first allocation in late July- perhaps August. I don't know if that applies to pre-orders.

They also invited me to attend the rev it up event as a VIP guest for Friday. It is actually the second local dealer to extend a VIP invitation.

I also was invited to the VIP day for Friday.

I took the day off work and will be there.

All of the pre-order customers should plan to meet somewhere at a set time. It would be nice to put a face to the screen name.

I believe there are supposed to be 2 RX-8's there. A Winning Blue one and a Titanium one. At least it looked that way from the pics I have seen posted from it. Can't wait to sit in it and play around! I really think they should let those of us who have pre-ordered drive it.

jonalan....you gonna be there Friday?

ELX13...try to get over there!! Call in sick or something:D (sick of waiting on your car to get here).

Let me know if you guys are going to be there and we'll plan to meet.

Do you guys know of anybody else from the St. Louis area who is on this forum that might be going?

I just noticed the St. Louis based discussions. I was the second deposit at Bommarito Ellisville - put down $500 in November. I am in the first allocation - sunlight silver, black leather GT package.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make the Rev it up event. Well, I guess if you have to miss it - I'm racing my E Production 1st gen at MAM this weekend so probably don't deserve much sympathy.

Anyway, I've been driving the tow vehicle (F250) as my daily driver since selling my FD to dump (more) money in the race cars.

So I'm REALLY anxious to get a fun car to drive around.

Steven

I'm planning on being there. But, it will depend on my workload. It's been a crazy week, so far.

I should know for sure by Thursday.

thoughts after the event...

well fellas, here are some random observances after spending time with our car friday. some are just confirmations of what most have already said.

- u can fit 4 6 footers in this car in relative comfort.
- with the 18" wheels the gap between the top of tire and the wheel well was; rear: 3", front: 2-2.25".
- the car looks like it's riding a little high from the back. not glaringly so...but noticeable to me at least.
- front air dam is deeeeeeep and low. those of us that'll have to deal with snow should be aware.
- the front door simply bounces back when u try to close it b4 the back door.
- i didn't see the "under side mirror" lights on these pre-prod cars. do we get those?
- the sunroof slides back about 7.5-8" when fully open.
- the trunk opening is narrow but not nearly as bad as i was expecting based on posts on the forum.
- the renesis is the smoothest, quietest engine on the FACE OF THE EARTH! seriously, the mazda rep revved it to 8500 RPM and there was absolutely no vibration. and the engine got to 8500 RPM in a heartbeat without any fuss. remember guys, this is my first experience with a rotary engine (aside from riding in my friend's rx-7 every now and then). i was thoroughly impressed.

A couple of other things I noted

- Velocity Red is absolutely stunning !!
- Winning Blue was better in person than in pictures
- Being vertically challenged (5'8") there will be plenty of
room in the back seats for 6' + occupants when I/my
wife drive
- The trunk is deep-that is you will have to lift objects up and
then lower them down to the trunk level
- Several of the mazda mechanics commented on how far
back the renesis was placed; they were amazed
- The 3-D appearance of the car is awesome in person- each
different angle gives a unique perspective
- I love the "enveloping" nature of the back seats. This is
supposed to be a sports car, not a luxury sedan.
- It's been 4 long years since I sat behind a rotary vehicle.
('90 second gen rx7). The nostalgia of the RX-8 reminded
me of my love affair with my prior rx7's.

Thanks for the info guys! I, unfortunately, could not make it on Friday (or over the weekend).

Question on the trunk - is the opening big enough to get a golf bag into it?

i don't play golf but i've seen plenty of golf bags!

i'd say yeah, u could get a golf bag through the opening with no problems. one end in first, slide it over then tilt the rest in...at least that's how i'd try it first. it may be simpler than that.
