new (used) owner in Chicago saying hi

Greetings all,

Today I made the decision to trade in my 2001 S2000 in trade for a silver 2004 RX-8 6-speed (just over 9k miles to boot!). I browsed around a little bit and of course found this great site! Coming from owning Honda products nearly my entire driving life I know very little about the RX-8 and look forward to learning a bit and maybe throwing on a few bolt ons. I've been part of a couple car "clubs" in the past, only one actively though (Acura RSX). Anyways, just thought I'd say hi and not just lurk forever.

I live in North Aurora and work in Lisle at a car dealership as a internet tech/ I.T. guy/ whatever. So if you see a silver 8 in the area it may be me!

happy driving,
-nate

Welcome, I'm courious. Why go from a S2K to a RX8? The local place to be is www.chicagorotary.com. This site is for all local rotary engine cars, not just the RX8. Most boltons are expencive and don't give much in the way of power gain. L.W Flywheel & HP Cat seem to give the most power for the money. BTW, I'm an IT guy also. I work mainly with BP at the moment.
We have a BBQ/Picnic coming up on 7/22. There is also a meet 7/1, 7/4(?) and 7/8 scheduled so far.

I'll keep my eyes peeled to the boards for an event I can attend. thanks!

As far as why I dumped the S2k... Basically, it just got old to me. I couldnt make much use of the 9k redline in the car and the power it had due to the setup of the vtec and my typical driving habits. Apart from that the stereo sucked and the car wasnt really comfortable and just got stale at a certain point. I was going to pickup a 07 Civic Si but after driving the RX-8 I just fell for it instead. I just love the sporty feel, the looks and mostly everything else about the car. The civic revved too slow, couldnt stand the flywheel in it.

The only car I have modded out thus far that I've owned was my RS-X. That car was a blast but you can only go so far with front wheel drive (without spending thousands and thousands more). Hopefully, if I get the money flow, I'll pop in a few bolt ons when I get the chance.

I have a tendancy to move through cars rather quickly. I think the longest I've ever owned a car was my old Civic Si, around 2 years. Working at a car dealership seems to have that effect. Dump a car while you can still get good money for it and move into another.

So yeah, that's my story. I look forward to meeting up with you all!

I was curious because I think I am too tall to fit in a S2000.

I'd say headroom wise, the RX-8 is a tad smaller. side to side the S2k is smaller.

I sat in an S2K, very tight for me at 6'0". If I were an inch longer in the legs I'm not sure I could fit in the RX-8.
