Need Help! I Can't Drive Stick!!! *Chicago*

Hello everyone!

I don't post much on these forums, but I visit and read them daily! I am a 17 year old, and in the market for an rx-8. My parents are pretty serious about getting me an 8, but I want it manual, but i don't know how to drive stick! My parents or my close friends do not have manual cars, and dont know how to drive them. I really don't have any real way of learning through my parents or friends, so i am now looking elsewhere. I tried craig's list and posted a thread, but no answers. If any of you would like to teach me (Of course Ill pay) in the palatine area (around Harper College), that would be great! I dont want to ruin anyone's 8, so any manual car will do (I'v tried stick once, and stalled countless times). Please e-mail me at coolk50089@aol.com if you are interested in making a few dollars and helping a future rx8 owner out!

Definitely come to the bbq. As far as learning stick, I'm going to have to decline allowing that to happen to my tranny/clutch. But good luck finding someone.

There's a couple car rental companies that usually have at least one M/T on their lots. I forget who though...maybe Budget?

If you can meet me in Buffalo Grove, just northeast of Palatine, I can teach you using my old Audi. It's at my dad's shop, which has a parking lot you can practice in before venturing out on the open roads. Better be fast though, since it will be leaving me next month. PM me if you are interested.

Sure, the Audi seats five. That means we have room for two more everyone!

*DISCLAIMER* You must bring your own fire suits, fire gloves, fire shoes, fire balaclava, and helmet.

*ADDED BONUS* Drinks and a light snack will be provided.

Not so sure I want your hands on my stick...oh wait, you mean the shifter.

No worries, we'll get you up and running. I really admire a lad who will take these kinds of steps to be able to drive an 8.

I couldn't drive stick either when I got my 8, once you stall it a few times in traffic you tend to learn quick.

Definitely come to the BBQ, someone will be willing to teach you there. We can make it an event. While we are all eating hotdogs and such we can stand around and watch you stall it out. That will put you under the gun and you will learn very quickly, Staver.

Thank God the parking lot is around the corner from the BBQ site, so we won't ALL be staring ... just the ones who walk around the corner will be (like me!)

oh no worries ... we just came up with the categories for winning giveaways and almost half of them are for non-rotary owners. and we are all just kidding about watching and laughing.

ANYONE who drives stick has a funny story about learning. I practically drove through the garage door. When I taught my sister, she could not stop popping the clutch so there were nice skidmarks all over the church parking lot where she learned!

Actually the 8's clutch is very forgiving; if you release it slowly enough and give absolutely NO gas, it will go into first! I was trying to teach someone and I kept saying "just let the clutch out so you can feel where the stall point is." He did it and damn if it didn't go into gear and start lurching forward. I was so surprised I forgot to tell him what to do next and just sat there with a stupid look on my face.

And YES it was different from the stupid look that is usually on my face!!!
