Hello neighbor. I live in Villa Park. Temperatures are about the same. We don't get as much snow that Buffalo gets. Plus the streets get taken care of pretty quickly. I use a good M&S tire (Pirelli PZero Nero M&S) during the winter. There are times that a snow tire would be nice, but I never get stuck.
I've been through one winter with the 8, and I use the same tires year round that Al does for the winter. I've been through one winter with it so far. Never got stuck, didn't even come close. You just have to be careful if you are driving on an unplowed road. When you turn the front wheels, the car might plow straight. I just blip the throttle a little bit when that happens and it turns ok. Just have to be careful there is not a car right there when you do that.
I did get the pirellis siped by discount tire. I think that helps with wet and snow traction a little bit. Some studies show that a good all-season tire with extra siping done gets about the same traction in the snow as a standard snow tire. I don't know about that as I've never driven a car with snow tires.
If I wasn't a member of the retired class and had to drive it to work everyday, I'd probably go ahead and get an extra set of rims and snow tires.
But I do like having the ultra high performance all-seasons on there all the time. I don't have to worry about putting summer tires on too early or snows on too late. I'm like a good boy scout - prepared for anything
I've even taken these tires to the track once. If I was a more advanced driver I'm sure they would be inadequate for track work, but they were fine for me.

Also, congrats on the new 8 - you will love it! Just as long as you don't mind the gas mileage to power ratio. I get about 15 mpg around town. Some people don't research the car and end up hating it because of that. But a rotary is a lot of fun, and has its own unique set of advantages.
Make sure you come out to the meets we have. We have one on the first saturday and 3rd tuesday of the month. Check out the first post of the "Chicago area meets here" thread to get the latest info.

thanks guys for the advice on tires. i know what to expect out of the rotary, i had a 87 rx7 n/a a few years back and it was my favorite car that i ever owned. sure the rotary has it's quirks but it's so much fun. cant wait to start driving the 8. i will defintly try to make it out to the meets as long as work doesn't interfere.
Saw another wb 8 on 21 yesterday. Drove next to him for a strech, but he didn't seem to friendly...
Saw 2 silver 8s wednesday morning around 7-7:30. One on Finley Rd and Ogden Ave. The other one is the same one I see all the time on 53. I don't think he's here. Flashed my lights at him. Heee.
Ti Gray 8 spotted yesterday afternoon (3:30 or so) on Cherryvalley Road on the way between Rockford and Sycamore, and then again same car, same road, goin the other direction - got a wave both times - maybe Reedy?
