Columbus Mazda Dealers

People with 8's in C-bus, OH where do you take your 8 to be serviced? Has anyone had any good/bad experiences they are willing to share? I'm trying to decide where to take my 8 for service. I bought it at Ricart, but live closer to Mazda Direct. Any thoughts on good/bad service departments would be appreciated.

Frank Paliena (spelling?) in the service dept. at the Byers Mazda in Dublin is the man! He has always been more than helpful and basically is a cool guy that will do whatever it takes to make you happy. Check him out if that dealership is convenient.

Bobby? Are you the one I met at Starbucks? I bought my car at Byers, and will never take it back their for service again. I go to Mazda Direct off Morse rd. No disapointments to date.

Service

yah, it's bobby. I was planning on getting the M flash, but if possible I would like to avoid Byers. My wife had several incidents with their Volkswagon dealership and we have vowed to never give them another penny. So you're pretty happy with Mazda Direct? That's where I'd like to go, mainly for the convenience.

I bought a VW from byers too. They tried to screw me over on the trade in, when my wife was looking at a V40. They wouldn't give me anything over $7k for my GTI VR6! I have to admit, I really miss the low end torque, but who cares....my 8 is sooooo much more fun. BTW, no complaints from Mazda Direct. Jimmy

No service experience with Mazda Direct yet, but maybe they're next. Been to Ricart and Byers and they both suck, for different reasons. I don't hold out much hope for Mazda Direct, as it seems all dealers suck, but I might give it a try.

When that fails, I'll go back to beating Byers over the head, cause that's closer to me.

I'm sorry to hear everyone's issues with Byers Mazda. Frank has treated me like gold over there and I have zero complaints. Hopefully it will eventually turn around for those of you that have had poor experiences.

In my personal experience, I HATE BYERS. They seem very unprofessional and are not very helpful. I hate the sales people there too. That why I got my car at Ricart, but the service at Ricart is lacking too. A big problem with ricart is that they service a lot of diff cars, so they have a larger volume. THey are also kinda far away. SO far Mazda direct has been the best to me, and I will only go there from now on. oh yah (i hate Byers with a passion).

WHy dont I like byers:
aside from some of the sales people being way too pushy and rude, and not helpful. I tried to take my care there for service, but the service person was rude, and they wouldnt give me a rental car for the Recall work that had to be done. THey just didnt seem interested in helping me. they also (at the time) didnt seem very knowledgeable about the Rx8.

Not trying to convince you to like Byers or anything but their service department has several rotary guys in it. At least one owns an RX7 and the last guy who worked on my car drives an RX8 too (he came out to chat with me about an issue).

I had a great experience with the sales staff at Mazda Direct, and almost bought there but they didn't have the car with exactly what I wanted. I spoke with several service techs there and they seemed pretty good. The sales staff said that their service department was rated among the highest (I cannot verify this, since my interactions with service were minimal).

Sorry to resurrect an old thread... but any more experience with Columbus area service locations? There's really no definitive answer, everyone is split-which is fine, btw. Any horror stories about the location, other than not liking the people who work there? Any change of hearts?

Thanks,
Ra

i wouldt say theyre great, but with some teeth pulling byers has really treated me well and given me everything i could expect. my experience with mazda direct was plesant, but they really didnt do anything except tell me nothing was wrong when i know they didnt do the work needed to determine that

Thumbs up

I bought my 8 at MazdaDirect and I just went back last week for my first oil change. I had a list of minor issues to talk with the tech about and they seemed to have answers and be aware of the TSB's that have been issued. Overall, it's been a great experience buying and getting serviced there. Don, in service/parts is the man to talk to and he seems to know what he's talking about when it comes to the 8.

So which dealer, Byers or Mazdadirect, would you recommend going to service some TSB items?

This is sort of unrelated but I am looking to have my iPod wired into the car and wondered if anyone has used a local shop to do the install? I called Columbus Car audio and they charge 50-60 bucks to do it but I have never used any of them and wanted to know who does the best work.

I tried an FM modulator and its a joke.

I just got my 15k Service done at Byeres per Ra's suggestion, and I take back most of the bad things I've said about Byeres Mazda. I still am not fond of the sales people, but the service dept. was awesome. Frank is definitely the guy to talk to. I saved $160 by taking to to them instead of MAzda Direct, who told me it would cost 240$ to get the 15k service done.

Thanks Ra, and THanks to Frank from byeres

funny, b/c i take back my defense of byers! frank and ed are awesome, but the service manager sucks and im done w/byers. mazda direct came in at over $600 cheaper to replace my differential, plus gave me a rental car for the week. byers wanted almost $3k for it, couldnt fit me in until next week and i would have had to pay for a rental, which would have added another $150 or so to the job. i live 30 sec from byers, but ill gladly make the drive to easton from now on

id by another car from byers in a heartbeat though as chad is a great salesman b/c hes a car guy and very easy to deal/bs with
