I searched to see if any 8s are meeting up and it doesnt seem to be.

Are there any meets in the Chicago area? I went to a meet last Saturday with the JGTCA and it was great, but I was the only 8 that showed. Just curious if I'm missing meets around the city.....

 

There is the Rotory Car Club of Chicago (RC3) which is in a state of flux at the moment. The active members drive 3rd Gen RX7's. I go to many of the meets. A discussion of the future of the club is ongoing at:

They held their first meet at "the Autobarn" Mazda dealership in Countryside about a month and a half ago. They are setting up a beach meet in conjuction with the Mazda 6 club.

 

We've also hooked up with the RX7 club guys at Woodfield a few times... but I haven't heard about get togethers with them recently.

 

Thanks to RedSheDevil & alneilsen for coming out to play at least once each. So far our only semi-regular RX-8 member is joyriderx-8, but mattrx-8 has been out at least twice as well.

As I mentioned, if you guys want to get together or a regular basis and like seeing all kinds of Japanese GT cars (RWD/AWD coupes with some sport sedans like the RX-8, STi, and EVO.... and occasionally some VIPs too like the RWD/AWD Japanese luxos...) come on out I recommend bringing a couple bucks if we go to CIR (chicagoindoorracing.com--it's $25 a race on Saturdays) though heheh.

Sorry I haven't made it to any more of your meets. Saturdays are bad for me and weekends are for racing (autocross). Plus the missus gives me grief because I do too much car stuff.

I read through that thread and some of those guys don't seem very enthusiastic about the RX-8. In fact, I'd say they are a bunch of f$#%ing haters. I was thinking of meeting up with RC3 sometime but not anymore...

 

I havn't encountered any "haters" Some are more friendly than others. We, the 8 owners, are the new comers and the clics have already been setup/friendships made. We have turned around some of the FD drivers attitudes by driving as aggresivly as they do on some of the high speed expressway runs. We are able to keep up, unlike the FB & FC n/a RX7's.

Now I know they exist. And now I know why they probably won't exist much longer. Yep those 7's sure are fast. And maybe the only two guys that show up to their events can brag to each other how much faster their 7's are than 8's. Sounds like fun. And they wonder why nobody shows up.

Dazy, I hung out with the JGTCA guys 2 weekends ago and they were really cool. No h8rs, no rice, just people who like cars. After reading about this stuff here I'm a bit skeptical about other meets. I'm a n00b and just looking for some info and a spirited cruise (got both at JGTCA). Sadly, I've got a wedding to go to on the 13th, or I'd meet you there!!!
