Central Illinois RX-8

Sightings:

From Peoria as you can see, I've seen a yellow one around my neighborhood, a Titanium on route 6 heading towards Peoria, and another Red one parked at the local mall, but none while I was driving mine so far. So there are some floating around here Anyone reading the boards from good ole' central Illinois!

From Springfield here. Only have seen one other RX-8 around here, a Winning Blue AT, a chick drives it and works near where I live. Otherwise...not an 8 in sight. Got mine off the lot on the 10th of January...Mid-life crisis LOL I look but I don't see any abound, dealer has another 6 up for sale, no takers I guess.

I blame it on the weather around here. And the hoards of trucks and SUVs! Glad to see there is one down in Springfield on this board. I go down there to play Disc Golf periodically at Douglas Park. My wife said she's thouroughly scared of what I will do for my midlife crisis since I've got a bit to go till then.

Oh yeah, SUVs and trucks abound here. I traded my truck in on my RX-8. However, my wife traded her Eclipse in on a Honda CRV a year ago. I missed the sporty little car and with that, and the fact that I bought and played the hell out of Need for Speed Underground , I decided I didn't use my truck as much as I needed to have one so I got the RX-8. Looked into getting a used RX-7 but talk about impractical and a maintenance hog, so I decided to go with the 8. I'm very happy I did. Funny thing is, my insurance only went up $6 a month over my Dakota.

I do plan on putting snow tires and rims on next winter, this winter it's park it when it snows and drive my wife's CRV to take her to work before I go in and have to leave early to pick her up.

When you come to Springfield sometime, let me know and perhaps we can get together and look at each other's rides.

Definitely will let you know. Not enough of us driving here in Central Illinois My insurance went up 17 dollars every 6 months from my wifes Pontiac Sunfire to the RX-8. CRAZY!! I hope they keep the price low and don't change their mind. I'm holding out for GT4 so I can drive the RX-8 in the game since there isn't one in NFSU. I got 17's put on mine, and it drives great in the snow. A lot of fun

NICE! I like that spoiler, looked at it several times kind of wishing mine didn't have it when I got it. And your rims with the Blizzaks on them look like very closae to the ones I was looking at on Tire Rack.

I use Photo Shop a lot and have a pic of a Red RX that I put the rims I was looking at on. I'll post it below.

Here are a few pics of my RX on a post I did a few days ago.

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=18965

I've got this uniqe spoiler that I cannot find anyone else who has it. I like it but it looks a bit odd when looking at all the other stock spoilers. The paint matches perfectly so I still think it's stock, just what stock? My RX was manufactured 07/03 so the dealer may be right about it being an early import and Mazda changed the stock later.

I noticed you got the side strakes too. I'm still toying with the idea of getting them but hate the price for what little they are. But they do look rather nice. Maybe I might sometime.

I ordered the front and rear splash guards today from Rosenthal.
http://www.finishlineperformance.com..._exterior.html

I saved a bunch by going there instead of our dealer. They wanted like about $50 more than the total of my online through that dealer's site. I was like, I think I'll wait.

My only other plan for modification to the exterior is to get this front lip spoiler from RMagic. http://www.rotaryextreme.com/rmagicrx8/ripy.jpg

I'll post my RX and the photoshop mock up below of it. The only front on shot I could get of RMagic one was a yellow green version of it and it was hard to make it look decent enough to match the colors of my RX. I've done better but, I didn't spend a lot of time to do this one.

That is one different looking spoiler. How interesting. I wonder why yours has that? You bought yours brand new like that? I'm not really sure if I like it, but it's definitely unique. Great color choice btw

I hated the price on the stakes, but I had to have them. Got them when I got the car. They just add to it I feel.

I have thought about splash guards. It sure kicks up a lot in the back. Haven't broken down for that yet, but I would say good call there!!

I'd have to say spend your money elsewhere. I don't like the body modifications that take away the rotary symbol in front or back. But that's just me. Beautiful car!

Thanks, I liked your color too.

Got the front splash guards today, rear ones coming in next week. I also decided to go for the door guards to keep the paint chips down if I accidentally open it too close to some wall or something.

I have some stealth bulbs for the turn signals up front and in the back to take as much color out of the clear lenses as possible. Also, I got some other stealth lamps for the license plate light and inside map lights. These are nice because when you look at them unlit they are silver. I have a red 6 LED replacement lamp for the third brakelight and have on order two 9 LED red lamps for the brake lights. LEDs are very directional so that is why I went with stealth for the turn signals. I haven't put any of this in yet because, as you know just being an hour noth, it's way to firggin' cold to work on it at the moment.

I'll probably sooner or later pop for the strakes too, I agree, it adds just a nice little touch.

The spoiler doesn't look so bad when viewing it from a bit further away. It looks nice in the rear view because it has that lip curling up. It was on the car when I bought it and the car is new but has been in the states for a few months. The manufacture date is 07/03 but I do not know the exact day. The sales manager at the dealership drove the car around for a bit because he was going to buy it but couldn't get permission from his wife, that is the story I was told. It had 800 miles on it but has a clear title so I have to trust that they were telling the truth. They said the spoiler was the original OEM that shipped and that Mazda most likely changed the supplier afterwards. I'm not sure what to think but if it did ship like this, no one else has said they have one like it on this forum. I guess it's unique because of that.

Instead of the front Rmagic lip if I add a couple hundred more I can get Canzooomer's Stage 1 ECU. That way it gets extra HP above 5000 RPMs and under it gets better gas mileage. That is what I'll probably do.

Stage 1 definitely! I agree 100%. And why yes now that you mention it, it is rather FRIGID up here! brrrrrrr

Took mine to Iowa Wednesday for a ski trip, performed like a dream. I also took mine out yesterday in the snow to a local park and drove like a mad man. With my Blizzaks on I really have to tug at the steering wheel for it not to go straight. Really amazing, I have a steep drive and it was covered with at least 3 inches of snow when I just drove right up it. DSC on the whole way, but the car just went right up like a trooper.

I'm having way too much fun.

I just want a nice mazda spider styled key chain. That's my next mod .. only one I've found so far is blue and of course I'd rather have red! ... Well at least it is cheaper to have smaller aspirations :D

My next mod is going to be the CZ1. Waiting for my retroactive pay raise to place an order. This will be going in before the end of Spring, definately. After that, I am going to get some ultra high performance all seasons so I don't have to deal with changing out the tires twice a year. With the amount of snow we usually get, it's probably the best bet.

You will have to let me know if those ultra high multi-season work, I haven't heard too many promising things involving those tires. Until then I'll stick with the changing.

I finally saw my first RX-8 out on the road other then mine, it was a Blue one. My wife says she's seen a few ... obviously none of them hang out here or they would of said hi by now ..

Borla exhaust next for me ... mmm .. soon I hope

Retroactive raises are a good thing.

The tires I am looking at are the ones that Omicron said he ordered. They are the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S, size 245/40-18s. Omicron will post in his thread about them after he gets them on this coming Tuesday. The Tire Rack has good things to say about their ratings especially in snow and tread wear.
