I'm sure glad you got to keep your car, seriouscoin. Sounds like you've got a handle on the family finances.

So far the finances are okay. Still a little iffy! I also have the kumho ecsta's for the rear and the potenza's in front. The potenza's are noisy! Needed the rear sooner of course but will soon get the kumhos in the front.

So how often are you guys who are driving your 8 all winter washing your cars? Are you doing the underside, wheel-wells, and the engine compartment too?

Anybody use a wash/detailing service? How much?

OK guys, I couldn't stand it anymore and took my 8 out for an afternoon drive. The roads near home were dry and I picked a few with no salt. Got home from work, parked the Explorer and jumped in the 8. Warmed it up for a few minutes and then took off down the road!

This is what's been missing from life for the past month and a half. The car ran like a champ. I'm glad I kept the insurance in-force.

Just as the sun went down, I pulled back into the garage and put my baby back to bed for a few more weeks.

I can't wait for spring, when I can take it out just about anytime I want. But today definitely felt good to get behind the wheel again.

I love this car!

I wash mine almost every friday, snow or shine. I usually switch off between doingit manually and doing the automatic for the under-side. My engine desperetly needs a washin though.

I drove her tonight and it was GOOD.

The car never missed a beat. No way at all to tell that it's been hibernating for over 7 weeks. Pulled strong, idled smooth.

This car is happy when you drive it fast. So is the driver.

Snow tomorrow, my baby is tucked back in her bed.

I did notice, though, that the range on my key remote was about half of what it used to be. Probably time for a new battery. Anybody had to replace their remote battery yet?

Bountiful Mazda says I need a new engine, and they won't cover it due to intake and exhaust. They are voiding my warranty, though The Magnuson Moss act says they have to prove my parts caused the problem, they refused and said it's my job to prove they didn't do it. ILLEGAL. So now I have to fight tooth and nail to try and get them to fix it. Oh and I found out they (bountiful mazda) rebuilt this engine 10,000 miles ago, sounds like they didn't do it right. I'm ready to freak out on those guys . but I know it won't help I just have to keep my cool and get it resolved.

And that, gentlemen, is probably the number one reason why I won't mod this car. Being a conservative old fart sometimes has it's advantages.

Good luck, bose, hope you get it resolved before the weather gets nice again.

I'm tempted to buy a second engine and keep it stored for the day when my extended warranty is up and I actually have to foot the bill myself. It's definitely going to cost more in the future so maybe getting one now isn't such a bad idea. Of course, the warranty is still good for 5 more years.

Rebuild ~$2,000 (and your old core) New ~$6,000 (Mazda direct)

Installation extra.

Sounds like the same people that own the Vegas Mazda dealerships.

So, do owners with unmodded cars have relatively smooth warranty experiences?

I've only had one, very minor warranty issue, (a leaky switch on the tranny) and it was about the smoothest experience I could have asked for, at the same dealership that bose is locking horns with.

Does the good, freebie warranty service disappear the moment you bolt on a non-Mazda part?

Yeah I'm not sure I think it's a combo of how I look and the car I picked, they think young kid too stupid to realize we're screwin him plus he has an rx8 and none of us know anything so let's tell him he's out of warranty and then he'll go away. either that or it's because they already replaced this engine and they don't want to do it again. I don't know, I must of pissed God off somthing fierce to be getting up the tailpipe this hard.

I've read of a couple people who are on their third engine under warranty, but not sure if they had any mods.
