I didn't like the short shifter while I had it. Takes like 5 minutes to install though. Let me know what you think of it.

Really? I like mine in the Blue 8. Feels odd every time I get in to the grey one with the stock shifter. I almost feel like I'm driving my Bronco when shifting.

What exactly didn't you like?

DeViLbOi 04-28-2013 06:20 AM

I didn't like what everyone thought was the greatest thing ever...the clunkyness of it. I never found the throw to be noticeably enough shorter for me to justify the cost either.

I'm going to be getting BC to help me bleed my clutch sometime in May and will be bringing my Motive bleeder. Is there anyone else that might want in on this as a brake/other maintenance day?

Wow, that's totally the opposite of my experience. Mine is tight, reduced throw by 30%, shifts faster and more precisely. What I like to call "snick-snick" shifting. Clunky is the last word I'd ever use to describe it. Mine is precise and smooth.

I wonder if you tried one that was worn, damaged, improperly installed, or poorly-made.

My experience exactly. Accept that my transmission is bad so I do get clunkyness. But not due to the SS. It started before I got it.

Heading back on the 1st. Will be busy the weekend of the 6th, but who is available for a maintenance/mod install weekend on the 13th? Want to do trans fluid, diff fluid, brake fluid, ss clutch line, ss brake lines, short shifter, and high flow cat.

DeViLbOi 06-30-2013 07:55 AM

I can do the 14th and 15th but not the 16th.

Hydr0nium 07-10-2013 10:42 PM

Thanks John. Don't think those dates will work since I just ordered my trans and diff oil. Should be here early next week. How does the weekend of the 20th work for you/anyone else? Bladecutter? Is your garage still available?

DeViLbOi 07-12-2013 06:36 AM

I can do the 20th it looks like. That'll give me a chance to get some plugs ordered.

Hydr0nium 07-12-2013 08:09 PM

Just got back from the dealer. Low compression on each face on each rotor. Low 5's across the board. New motor already on order. I believe they are going to take care of my maintenance weekend for me (going to have them install some extras as well)

But, I am game for working on anyone else's car!

Hydr0nium 08-30-2013 10:15 PM

So I just got the car back from the dealer. I didn't have enough brake fluid to do a complete flush of the clutch and brakes, so they didn't install the brake lines.

The high flow cat was also not installed due to the rear flange not being welded on in the proper orientation. I am in contact with turboxs to see if I can exchange it.

If anyone is up to doing a brake line install/cat install in the near future, let me know. I can provide home brew!

DeViLbOi 09-01-2013 07:53 AM

Cat install isn't all that bad to do, I've done that on my own before. As for the brakes...I've never had a brake fluid swap go well.

How is Lakewood Mazda to work with, they have an 8 for sale I am looking to buy. Just curious how their service dept is, etc.

Hydr0nium 11-02-2013 11:48 PM

Service department is excellent. Very happy with them. Real easy to work with, great relationship with both Bruce (rotary tech) and Devon.
