Id be down for that.

I will be in the Springs around 2pm leaving from Frederick its looking like.

8ya 09-15-2011 07:43 AM

Sounds like we found our next meet up spot.

Bladecutter 09-15-2011 01:08 PM

Here's the cool thing about HPR, there are a bunch of different ways to enjoy it.

During the summer season (ends Oct 31), you can choose a full day of driving (8 am to 5 pm, lunch at 12 to 1), or a half day of driving (8am to 12, or 1pm to 5pm).

If you pay the day of the event, its $160 for full day, or $100 for a half day.
If you pay in advance, its $150 or $90.

But, if you know you're going to do it multiple times, or if there's going to be you and several other people joining, you can buy lapping day cars, which reduces the price a bit.

I just bought a 3 pack for Half Day, which brings the individual price down to $81 a ticket. Plus, I can hand over my ticket to whomever I want, like my gf is using one tomorrow.

If a couple of people wanted to join in, we could pool cash, and buy one of these packs of lapping day tickets. a 6 pack of half days costs $475, which brings it to just over $71 a piece. Get a 12 pack, and its $75 a piece to cover the $900.

Something to consider.

BC.

Anyway, it was nice meeting everyone once again :)

Bladecutter 09-19-2011 05:56 PM

Wish I could have made it.
Wound up hurting my shoulder on Saturday, and couldn't drive down.

Next time.

So guys, we are near October. Would we like to hit the track this next meet up?

I'm so there.

Saturday Oct 8th they are having a Variety Day, where they change up the course:

http://highplainsraceway.mhsoftware....=1317263610763

Here's the calendar:

http://www.highplainsraceway.com/events.html

So, it looks like Sat Oct 8th, Fri Oct 14th, or Fri Oct 21st are the only open lapping days for October.

If you want to drive on the track, your car needs to be in good shape, and you shouldn't be afraid of chewing up your tires, plus, you need some form of helmet.

If you don't want to go on the track with your own car, I will be happy to bring anyone on the track as a passenger in my own car. You still need a helmet, though. I might be persuaded to bring one of my spares, but you will have to deal with my helmet for as long as you wear it. :P

I already have my day paid up for a half day event.
You guys decide which one sounds best.
The Saturday event sounds interesting as I've never done anything but the full track before.

BC.

Savoelh 09-29-2011 11:43 AM

This sounds like fun :D Let me know the next time you guys are doin somthing.

I should be able to make any of those days. I will drive my SII and am planning residing my OEM tires for track use and purchasing HPAS in the spring so Im not worried about wear. Im also getting a helmet pretty quick here.

Well, which one of those dates works for you?
The 8th? The 14th? Or the 21st?

Sounds like Iluvrevs and I can make any of those three dates.

Where's the rest of the forum at?

BC.

Iluvrevs 09-29-2011 07:06 PM

Cutter, how clean is the track surface typically?

Bladecutter 09-30-2011 12:07 PM

Track has always been spic and span clean.
During the course of the day, some cars may leave balls of their tire rubber on it, but there usually isn't any pebbles, dirt or random rabbits running around loose.

Now, if a huge dust storm rolls in, don't come looking for me, I'll be covering my car in wet paper towels. :evil_laug

BC.

christi88gxl 09-30-2011 12:25 PM

If you have a 'vert don't you have to have a rollbar? If I go depending what day y'all hose and don't run, but wanna photo-Op your cars, could that happen or do I have to still pay?

slvrmzdrx8 09-30-2011 01:02 PM

So how much is the by in on this track day?

Yes sir, you did! I was viewing on the mobile version so it was a little skewed. Very cool though, id be into it if we could get some package thing going down. Sounds like some fun stuff for sure!!!

Iluvrevs 10-03-2011 02:27 PM

How is everyone feeling about a date?

Cutter, how much oil do you usually go through and how much fuel?

Need to bring any other fluids besides premix?

Bladecutter 10-03-2011 03:27 PM

Alrighty, lets see if I can't get this right from my experience a couple weeks back:

I brought a 5 gallon gas can filled with me to the track of Shell Super.
I used that at the end of the day to pour into the tank, and get me back home.
I had about 1/8 of a tank in there when I dumped in the gas, so it turned off the low fuel light.

I used pretty much a full tank of gas getting there and back for a half day at the track.

I filled the car with gas up the street from my house when I filled the gas can, and since its ~70 miles from my place to the track, I burned about 3 to 4 gallons getting there (YMMV, no kidding).

When I got to the track, I topped off the engine with oil, and when I got back home at the end of the day, I had used about a quart, I do believe. YMMV on this one, too. If your oil injection system isn't working 100%, you will use less, obviously.

Since the track is in the middle of nowhere, you either pay their high prices for race fuel to top up your car, you bring a gas can with fuel with you, or you drive the 17 miles back to I-70 where there's 2 gas stations and pay their prices, which are about the norm for a station off of I-70 in the middle of nowhere. Your choices.

I would highly recommend washing your wheels before going to the track, and taking a look at your brake pads, and make sure they are in decent shape. You really don't want to have your brakes fade or fail on you when coming off the long straight.

As for a date, someone else needs to choose.

Who can come on a Friday?
Who can come on a Saturday?

Say something.

BC.

slvrmzdrx8 10-04-2011 12:27 PM

I may be able to to make one of those days if a couple people decide to commit to a 3 pack of tickets to save me a few bucks :D It will also depend on other circumstances as well. Does it cost to bring passengers along in your car, or is it a car price?

Savoelh 10-04-2011 01:22 PM

This would be somthing that I would really want to do but unfortunately I have to break my engine in before I start racing the car :P Friday I get my car back along with a new engine. Maybe next month I will be able to make it, But not this :(

Btw are any of you in SCCA? They do alot of cone racing all year long. Its alot of volunteer work but worth the fun :)
Heres the link http://www.coloradoscca.org/

Price is per driver.
You could bring 5 cars with you, and if you're the only one driving, its just the 1 ticket for you to drive them all.

As for passengers, you can have 1 passenger in the car with you, as long as they have a helmet on. No extra charge.

PM me and we can work something out for track fees. I was looking at going with a 3 full day pack and can split with you one day. I was under the impression we were doing a full day so please advise if Im incorrect. My helmet hasnt come yet, so that would be the only issue with Saturday for me.

I have a pair of old helmets (one is 9 years old, the other is 8 years old).

If that's the only thing holding you up, you can borrow one.
One is a Black Shoei RF1000, Large, and well worn. I just retired it from my motorcycle riding yesterday, as I just got a new helmet.

My other helmet is a 10 year old Yellow HJC. Its either a large or an extra large.
I can't even tell you the last time I wore it, as its been a long, long time.
It has many miles on it, too.

If you want to wait until next Friday instead, let me know.

And yeah, I was aiming for half day for a Friday track run.
For the Saturday instead, I might come in at noon for the start of the afternoon session.

BC.

slvrmzdrx8 10-05-2011 12:51 PM

Id be cool with a half day.

Iluvrevs 10-05-2011 06:44 PM

Ok, lets do Saturday. I will get another 3 half day pass and work out the details at the track unless BC thinks Im missing something.

BC, could I use both helmets? I may bring the kid along.

Bladecutter 10-06-2011 11:35 AM

Looks like it might be raining on Saturday.

How old is your kid?

I wouldn't want to put a little kid in a helmet that's way too big for them.

BC.

BC.

He's 14, big head. Just about 7" in diameter. Im just over so large from what I know these should work.

We MIGHT escape the rain in the afternoon. Cold enough not to need race fuel too. Though I know you dont run it I got used to it in my EVO so it may help here too when warm enough. Then again I dont know as much about rotaries yet as many here do.

Bladecutter 10-06-2011 03:19 PM

Cool, I'll bring the helmets then.

We said track and scared off everyone maybe.

There's truth in that.

Another car forum was having their annual get together in the Colorado area this summer. I suggested doing a day at the track. Got shot down. Buncha pansies.

BC.

Iluvrevs 10-12-2011 10:08 PM

Well, Im still planning on being at HPR the afternoon of Friday the 21st. So if nothing else we can get a couple of us there.

Bladecutter 10-13-2011 03:52 PM

Sounds like a plan.
Did your helmet arrive?

Yeap, Zamp cheapo. Good fit and SA2010.

Cool. The weather looks more promising this week than it did the other.
Was Silver planning on making it, or is he still suffering from schoolbook overload?

I saw that.

I texted earlier today but havent heard back yet.

Bladecutter 10-22-2011 05:48 PM

Since Iluvrevs and I are the only ones in this whole state who like driving RX-8's on a track, we met up at HPR on Friday, and had a grand old time tearing up the track, and pushing ourselves faster and faster around the many corners.

http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/8343/pairangle.jpg

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Its going to be a while before the track is up and running again, since they are closing it come Monday for a bit of repaving work in the couple of spots that need it.

http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/3687/pairfront.jpg

Was a perfect day.
Temp right around 70 degrees.
Practically no wind.
Good variety of cars out on the track, including some eye candy, and many engines that made your ears very, very happy.

Hopefully next time we do this, there will be more of you to join in.

BC.

8ya 10-23-2011 04:07 PM

sounds like lots of fun!!! wish i could have made it. getting some all seasons this next week so, then ill have some tires to burn up. lets watch the weather maybe we can get in another track day in after they are done paving.
