Nope it's just a bit slower than most other things...that's all...until you cheat and get a turbo.

jaguargod 05-14-2006 12:39 AM

If you are looking for it to run like your 94 RX7, you can forget it. But the RX8 is probably a whole lot more reliable.

yiksing 05-14-2006 12:56 AM

The 8 is not for you unless you go FI

canaryrx8 05-14-2006 09:37 AM

my main concern for you would be spell check, your posts read like a fifth grader typed them :D:

if "power is your main consern" (lol), then look elsewhere. This car wasn't designed to be a powerhouse, it was designed to be a practical sportscar. You won't be moving mountains, towing boats, or winning every stoplight rice...er...race with this car. What it does give you is a very comfortable car that you can drive everyday without worry, while also giving you something that can hold its own at the track or local twisties as well, all the while giving you room for 4 people and looking good at the same time :) It's no FD, but Mazda clearly stated at the onset of its development that it wasn't going to be.

Wow... Other than pointing out my typing and sound like a "Commercial"
You seem like a pretty cool dude. The Rx-8 sounds like a fun little car . I might give it a try... Thanx yellow Rx-8 you just made The Rx-8 sound like a Track Ballerina.

I was just giving you shit dude, it really is a fun car and a joy to drive everyday, just know that it's by no means an FD successor, they haven't built that one yet :)

yiksing 05-14-2006 07:43 PM

Seriously go do a serious test drive first

Thrust 05-14-2006 08:29 PM

No prob dude Im just missing my FD. I really like the way the car looks. What kinda number could I expect from a turbo? Do you thank their fast then a 4port 2nd gen?

If you are buying this car for SCCA, i am assuming you are referring to autocrossing... then you should do your reseach and see how well it does. The abilities of the 8 in autocrossing are very well known, and there is tons of information available.

Ive been Ax-ing a ZX2 for the past 2 years and it doesn't do bad. But Im ready for a new car so. But what happends when you guys break?

yiksing 05-20-2006 10:55 PM

You should start using the search button now

The Mighty Red 05-23-2006 01:13 PM

Yes - admittedly, it's not a power beast on the low end but it's pretty quick in the upper RPMs (in my opinion). It handles well, looks great, and I enjoy it.

Last event I attended, the second fastest car out there was a stock '04 RX8 on Kumho V710 tires.

There were a several M3s and a few WRX STis as well - even a full race corvette. The RX8 smoked them all. It's a very capable car. Only one car, an Evolution, was faster. Funny how such an "underpowered" car can be so fast!

Plus, its a real head-turner and a blast to drive every day.

That's my take.

I don't know. I've never broke my car.

Seriously... you shouldn't have to ask if the 8 is good at autocrossing if you've ever seen the results from any national autocross in the last 2 seasons.

Only the cons out measure the pros for the most part in the opinions of a couple of the the Rx8 owners I have talked to only due to power and engine trouble.
But every thing else sounds good I thing with the right mod's I could really be some thing... I'd like to already have mine. Im shooting for the silver one with the
black interior and the privious owner had the stock rims powder coated a weird
Bronze gunmetal...

BigOLundh 05-26-2006 05:30 PM

sounds good. let us know when you get it, and hopefully we'll see you out at the track soon.
