TX TX Emissions Testing

Hi all.
I currently live in a non emissions state and will be moving to Texas around july. on our visit there last week i noticed emission stickers in everyone's window. seeing as how i am cat'less i was wondering how tight the emissions testing was and if anyone has passed being catless? Thanks for your help, and we cant wait to be able to drive our 8's year round!

apparently if you take it to a kwik kar and as long as you don't throw a CEL light then you should be good to go. I am running catless as well.

I'm pretty sure it depends which county you are in. No one around Waco has emissions testing afaik. Where will you be moving?

we will be moving to the dallas area. yeah unfortunately my 05 is throwing a CEL... i have tried the Non-fouler trick, but i keep getting a slow response on my O2 even with one Non-Fouler. i proly need to drill it out a little larger for it work, but thats a whole nother topic in its self.

I would love to be able to pop the old cat back in for testing and pull it after, but we will be living in an apartment for at least our first year and dont know if i will have any place to work on my car. i might have to just swap it out before we move, but i would really like to avoid that.

I live in Fort Worth, so not to far from Dallas.....You could alway bring it to my house and we could pull it off and put the stock back on in my garage. Just PM if you need to do that.

Austin, Pflugerville, Round Rock all require emissions testing.

This.

All Texas registered vehicles are required to receive an annual inspection. All inspections include a comprehensive safety inspection; however, some vehicles are required to have an emissions test in addition to the safety inspection.

Which vehicles are required to have the emissions test?

* Vehicles registered in designated counties. Designated counties include: Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Montgomery, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Williamson and El Paso counties.
* Gasoline powered vehicles. Diesel powered vehicles and motorcycles are exempt from emissions testing, but are still required to have the annual safety inspection.
* Vehicles 2 through 24 years old OR upon expiration of the two-year initial inspection sticker.

Counties requiring OBDII & ASM Testing:
Dallas/Ft Worth area:
Tarrant, Denton, Collin, Dallas, Rockwall, Kaufman, Ellis, Johnson, Parker

Houston area:
Montgomery, Ft Bend, Brazoria, Galveston, Harris

Counties requiring OBII & TSI Testing:
Austin area:
Williamson, Travis

El Paso area:
El Paso

What is ASM2 and how does it work?
This test uses a dynamometer, which measures emissions under simulated driving conditions. In a sense, it's like a treadmill stress test for your vehicle. This tailpipe test is a cost-effective way to get very accurate, realistic results. A vehicle will fail the test if there is an excessive amount of Hydrocarbon, Carbon Monoxide or Oxides of Nitrogen.

Please note that 4 wheel drive vehicles will continue to receive the current Two-Speed Idle test. If your vehicle fails the ASM test, you can return to the same public inspection station within 15 days of your initial test for a free retest.

Two Speed Idle Test
The Two-Speed Idle test is a tailpipe emissions test. This means the analyzer measures exhaust emissions directly from the vehicle's tailpipe with the engine idling at a high and then low speed. TSI measures most of the common factors contributing to the formation of lung damaging ground level ozone.

A vehicle will fail the test if there are excessive amounts of hydrocarbons or carbon monoxide. TSI is used for older vehicles that are not equipped with the advanced on-board diagnostic computer system.

In Texas, you are required to inspect the car in the county you have it registered.
Note that on the license sticker on the windshield it has the county it was registered.

If the cop looks at both he might catch it.
Happened to a friend of mine. Cop removed the inspection sticker and gave him a ticket.
Cop can cross check by looking at ur addy on the drivers license.
