Thumbs up SCCA Solo2 event March 19, 2006 at Pennington Field

Who all is planning on going?

As I was saying in the other thread (before it got shut down) This'll be my first sanctioned event.

In response to BigoLundh... I couldn't say I've never raced. Though officially, and for the record, I do not condone speeding or street racing. It's bad. Bad. Nothing to brag about. Speed kills.

well I guess that means you don't know about the Equipe Rapide event scheduled at the Mineral Wells site this Sunday?

It will probably be cancelled due to bad weather though.

http://www.autocross.com/er/calendar.htm

EDIT: It was cancelled, next event March 12

BTW, my car probably won't be out for a while, too many planned mods too little time.

No - I didn't know about that. The only reason I knew about the SCCA one was by sheer luck. I now see that there are at least two clubs doing autocross in the Dallas area. Very cool.

So are there only two here to race in? It looks like the other local clubs on the autocross website are either out of the area or make/model specific such as porsche, BMW or S2000.

As for the mods - you can slap it back together for a day can't you?

On another and serious note - I noticed you've sold a lot of cool mods and aftermarket parts in the past. I missed out on getting them because I wasn't on here yet. If you have any more cool stuff or - next time you want to sell something, let me know. I've got plenty of mods I want to do and I don't mind swinging by to pick it up myself.

BTW - I'd like to know what you plan to do for your headers. Building them yourself?

Actually - you can race with any of them. I race mainly with the Porsche Club (PCA), and i know BMW and S2K are open to other cars as well. All of the clubs give entrance preference to their makes, but for autocross events thats usually not a problem.

Here's a link to the PCA schedule....
http://mav.pca.org/mav/Events/Autocr...oxSchedule.asp

From what I understand, BMW and S2k hold all of their events at Mineral Wells (mineral ring) which is a huge lot to race on, but farther than all hell... so i tend to avoid those.

TeamRX8,
Have you ever taken your 8 over any sweet jumps?

Sorry for the Napoleon Dynamite reference. Oh man... best movie ever.

Bumpity Bump.

If my new EMS comes in by friday, and if the base map feels decent... i'll take it out this Sunday. I already know the base map is pretty safe, but hopefully its not too rich that it's just butt slow. Unfortunately, I probably won't have the time to get it tuned before Sunday.

Who else is going?

I understand.
I had a quick question... is the tech inspection on Saturday mandatory?

I thought there would be a Tech Inspection Sunday morning before the race, but there is an inspection listed as Mandatory on Saturday on the website??

I found the following schedule for Sunday:

Registration & Tech 7:30AM-9:00AM
MANDATORY
Drivers Meeting 9:30AM
First Runs Start 10:00AM
Trophies at conclusion of runs 4:30 PM

So the tech inspection is definately on the day of the event (from what I see).

This is further re-enforced by the facts that:
1) the practice day on Saturday is for SCCA memers only.
2) you don't have to be an SCCA member to race on Sunday.
3) all racers must pass the tech inspection prior to racing.

So they would have to have tech inspection on race day or non-SCCA members could never race.

But that's just me thinking.

BTW, I'm not 100% sure if I'll make it but I'll try.

It doesn't matter if it's listed or not, the SCCA National Solo rulebook states that it's mandatory. Now they might possibly let Saturday's TI carry over so you don't have to do another on Sunday, but running w/o one is not permitted at any event that carries an SCCA insurance sanction

BTW, Saturday is SCCA members only and the mail-in-only entry deadline is today, since it's SCCA only they may be assuming everyone knows the routine. Besides, what difference does it make if you have to get a tech inpsection? Is there something on your car that won't pass on Sat but will on Sun?

I'm not worried about passing inspection. I just didn't want to make two trip to Pennington Field.

ANYWAY, its all pointless now.
My interceptor won't be shipped out until Friday... so there is no way i'm going to be able to run on sunday.
I'll def. be at the even first week of april though.

wellI suppose i'm really confused now because the only reason you'd make two trips is to attend both events

regardless, sorry the Interceptor won't be arriving as soon as you had hoped

What's even worse is i'm going to be out of town for the PCA Mar 26th Race at the TMS Bus Lot.
Those are always really fun.

I don't care to run there, the grip is really very poor, only several miles from the house though

looks like I'm still out two weeks before Koni sends me my new shocks

It definetely is a slick course, especially when wet... like i sad REALLY FUN!!
also, its alot easier on the tires than Mineral Wells and closer to home.. always a plus.

The Koni's should be real nice. Unfortunately for me they weren't available when i got my springs/shocks.

Had fun this weekend - despite the fact that it was pouring down rain. Next event is April 2nd. Same place.

I need better tires though.. What do you think?

245/35WR18 Kumho ECSTA V710 Blackwall - $240 each?

or

245/40ZR18 Hoosier A3S05 Blackwall - $261 each?

I'll be at the next one in april. Glad you had a good time. Were there any other 8's there?

So your looking for slicks? I know of a SM Class STi that is running with the Kumhos and has had good things to say about them. Personally i recommend staying off slicks. Slick tread tires can cover alot of your mistakes and still give you a fast time. You'll have good times, but you won't be able to improve as a driver as efficiently.
I ran with turbo last season on the world's crappiest 225 tires. By the end i was getting a good hang of it, and putting up competitive times... i think it was a good learning experience.

just my .02

Sin I started a new thread for the tire discussion.. I'll continue this discussion there.

So you will be there on the 2nd. Great. I'll see you there. I looked at the PCA event this weekend but I don't think I'll make it though I'm sure it would be a blast.

There was one other 8 out there this past Sunday. Yellow. I didn't catch the guy's name but spoke with him very briefly. I think he was running the STU class.

I'm waiting for the results to post on the website so I can see how I did in comparison to everyone else.
