RX-Club of Houston - Road Trip/Scenic Drive - March 18th 2006
Well folks it's that time again, time to dust off those driving gloves and breakout the cheap sunglasses for a day of back roads and beautiful cars. This event will be a very special event as we will be meeting up with TWO Austin clubs.
The TexasRXs group and the Tejas Miata club will be heading our direction, while we head theirs. We will all meet in Giddings for lunch then head south to the Sterling-Mcall Old Car Museum.
Expect this adventure to take a good portion of the day. We will get started about 9am, have lunch by noon and be back in time for sundown as we return home. Total we are looking at over 200 miles of round trip driving so make sure you car is in shape to make the trip.
After visiting with the clubs and paying a visit to the museum we will wind our way back to Houston along some great back roads until we get close to the city limits.
If you are interested please send me a message right away, we are working on the logistics and need to get a firm commitment from those who will be joining us.
Meeting location: TBD (pending final route)
Meeting time: 9am (don't be late, or you will be playing catch-up)
Cost: Bring $$ for lunch, gas and $5 for the museum.
!!BONUS!! for those of you who register in advance and show up to the event you will receive a surprise that will make your own road trip adventures a little easier and possibly more adventurous.

Giddings is a small town between Houston and Austin.

**UPDATE**
The weather report for Saturday is starting to look less than satisfactory... there is a possibility this event will be postponed.
Stay tuned.

Cancelled
Based on current weather predictions for tomorrow it may be best to postpone this meeting as an official club event.
While there is a reasonable possibility we could start out the morning dry and sunny the chance of severe thunderstorms are fariy certain. Especially in the mid-afternoon which is when we would actually see our best backroads driving upon our return to Houston.
While I have great confidence in the drivers of this club it is unfortunate that I do not share that same confidence in other motorists out on the road.
I hope we can again soon in the future meet up with our fellow club members from Austin and take time out visit and get to know them better.

For those of you who want to brave the elements get yourself to the Texas Grill in Giddings by 11:30 AM tomorrow morning. This is where the Tejas Miata & TexasRxs are eating before going to the Old Car Museum in Warrenton.
Texas Grill is located at 2880 Hwy 290E, (979) 542-9546
You must RSVP with the Tejas Miata club leader directly. His email is thart2150@yahoo.com

The Miata guys say it is rain or shine, the Austin RX guys are playing it by ear at this point I believe and the Houston group isn't going as a group although your welcome to try going on your own. Your best bet is to RSVP in with Terry (as the instructions mention above) and watch for any changes in your email or via their website at www.tejasmiata.org

This is what the Miata club website says (it was updated earlier today)
Even though it looks like we will have a good chance of rain, the drive is still on. Obvioulsy if the condition are too dangerous to drive, we will cancel it at that time, but otherwise we plan to meet tomorrow morning and head on out to the museum.
Since they are not deciding on cancelling until they meet at their Austin meeting place you might just have to hope for the best unless someone from their group will call you.

there's no cancellation on our page or theirs, but it is definitely raining right now and nasty outside. I'd really like to check out the museum though so I am going to just suck it up and put my baby out in the elements and try and make the meeting time in Round Rock. Hope to see some folks out, if not I'll look forward to next time as I'm the only yellow in our club right now and it would be nice to meet a few others lol
