PCA Autocross #2 - April 23rd, Mineral Wells
http://mav.pca.org/mav/Events/Calendar.asp
- My car should be tuned and ready to go roll by this Saturday.
- As far as the EMS problem from the last race... I think im going to just velcro my EMS in place, if i can't find an ECU lid by the time of the race.
- I'm hoping i can fit my race tires in the car, so i dont have to drive out there on them. I finally bought a low-profile jack... so changing wheels at the race should be pretty quick.
If anybody wants to meet up before the race, and drive down there together.. let me know. I usually meet up with a few other drivers on Midway/635 around 6am on the morning of the event.
Make sure you have sun tan lotion, a tire pressure gauge, an extra bottle of oil, and thats pretty much it. Gatorade/Water/Red Bull/Ice/Cooler is always nice as well. Free Helmets are provided at the event... you just have to buy a headsock ($5 i think), if you don't have your own.
Only $25 for non members, 7 to 8 runs, and it should be a very fast course. Last time i was out at mineral wells with PCA i got into 3rd gear several times on the course.
So who's going?

I may really be interested. If I can ditch a couple friends this weekend!
I have a couple of firends who have been wanting to go to an autocross. I"ve never been, and I'll need somone to show me the ropes.

Its farther than all hell. Its like 30-45min west of Ft. Worth.
I may not go as well... it all depends on if its going to rain or not.
There is another race in about 3 weeks at Texas Motor Speedway. I'll post up info for that one later.

Just got back, and the day went really well. The weather was great, and there were not too many drivers out there.
The car ran excellent, and feels so much better after the tuning session at Gotham on saturday. I had no detination or any failures at all... except the four cones i took out at the finish line on one run... which resulted in stripping the plastic under the car. Oh well, i'll deal with it.
The car did get to 108 C degrees on the last run... which caused me to back off of it near the end, but it was still my fastest time of the day. RRR!!! JUST NEEDED ONE MORE RUN!!!
It took me 4 laps to figure out the course, and really only gave me 3 good solid runs at the end (7 runs total). All in all it was really fun, and now im itching for the next race.
I think the lack of remembering the course could have to do with the 5 months of downtime between races. Only one way to fix that.. and thats more racing
Next race is in about 3 weeks. I'll post the info later.

That sounds really cool. I really would like to go. I have a friend who wants to come. He just bought a new Spec V, which I hear has pretty good handling, but its FWD so I want to see what he can do, and he's been wanting to autocross.

I used to live in Mineral Wells...where is the track? I don't remember there being one in or near town. Is is near the base, on the other side of town closer to the lake? Just wondering.

dmorales,
at the PCA events its usually half porches, and half-non porches. As far as non-porches go... its a vary wide range of cars. As far as mazda representation.. it was just me and 2 miatas.
At the Texas Motor Speedway or Pennington Field Events... there is usually a much bigger turn out.
aggietiff28,
its one of old bases. I think its called "mineral wells airpark".

Oh, one other thing i forgot to mention...
They had a scale out there, and I got a chance to weigh my car. It came in at 2940lbs.
That is with the full interior (seats) still in place, and about 7 gallons of gas. Now i just need to find the density of gasoline, and figure out a better rough estimate of the cars actual weight.
Being able to weigh the car was worth the cost of the race in itself.
EDIT: Using the approximate density of gasoline at .73722 kg/L... the car gained Approxiamtely 42lbs with 7 gallons of gas. That brings me under 2900lbs with no gas. Then again with no gas, its not going anywhere either.
