Paying for Quad-State Rotary BBQ?

Hello All,

I'm working to get the 2006 Quad-State Rotary BBQ held at Texas Motor Speedway; however, this very cool venue does not come without cost.

So - I'm wondering which you all would prefer as an attendee:
1) Free food & drink held at a local park
2) Paying $20-25 to have it catered by TMS catering company and having it in the TMS parking lot

We would have to charge for t-shirts like last time, but if they're sponsored like last time, all of the proceeds go to the BBQ fund.

Let me know what ya'll think.

20-25 is more than reasonable for such a good venue... IMO

If there was a track event included, i would pay... but if not i think free would be much better.
I have a feeling ALOT more people will come to a free event.

It's possible to buy track time, but we would need a solid committment of so many people and I don't think we're to that level yet. That may be an option in another year or two though, once we become a stable event.

I walked to work today. 4+ miles.. It's like 40 degrees here today..
It's pretty good here right now.. Supposed to get a little warmer and maybe some snow next week.

I don't want to sound like le pooper, but i'll drop my 2 cents in.

Standing in the TMS parking lot s*cks a*ss. For anyone that has ever autocrossed there, working the cone stations for a few hours is not fun.
The park we had it at last time on the other, was lovely. We had a good size parking lot, and a really large grassy area with kick a*ss gazeebo action.

I'd personally would rather pay for the park, then get TMS for free. Seeing how we can get the park for free (PEOPLE, BUY A T-SHIRT!!!), i say its a great deal. My only suggestion is that this time we get a park with a slightly larger parking lot... we succesfully filled the last one to the brim

Ok, le pooping is done... party on!!!

I'd pay $20 to go either way, but free is always good. I think track time would be great, but if not we can all just park and look good! :D

I agree that will get more attendees at a free event. We just need to find a bigger lot. Maybe the one next to ours. Or find another park. Maybe if we were inside the track I would pay. But we can find a willing parking lot anywhere.

I just worry about having in a parking lot with no shade, we got lucky with the overcast skies and not that hot. If it is at TMS with no shade and it's a 100 degrees people would be miserable after a while. Now , if we got to cruise the track, could roll down the windows at 100 mph plus and cool down some . Either way, I'm there, it was way too cool of a event and I see 2006 being so much bigger!

I really doubt you would get any kind of track time for $25, but if there were a race going on at that time, and we used the infield, that might be worth the $25. To sit in the parking lot, I would choose free.

Last year was bad timing for me, but I am going to try to get there in 2006.

I'd go free because I'm a cheap *** mexican!!! hahaha

It really wouldn't matter to me... I guess I consider myself neutral at this point.
Free is nice because it is free (duh) and if it was held at the same place as last time, it would be closer for me.

I wouldn't mind paying... but if I bring my family... it can get a bit pricey... so.. I'm not sure, plus... it's further for me. Hey gimme a break here... I'm poor with 2 kids !!! lol

I'm still neutral at this point. Maybe Free... maybe pay...

LOL.

Thank you all for your comments. I've decided to hold off on TMS for this year. I'm still looking into a location and plan on visiting a few this week. I'm open to suggestions if anyone has them.

Requirements:
*Shaded pavillion
*parking lot must be able to hold 75 cars min.
*central within DFW metroplex, preferrably not too far from a highway
*free or really really cheap :D
*need to be able to reserve both pavillion and lot for all day on a sat

Go Free Team!!!

Once again.. thanks for organizing this Dazy. We are all indebted to the Texas 8 Queen. ALL HAIL TO THE QUEEN!!

I would have came whether it was free or not, but i just felt alot more people would attend a free event versus one they had to pay for. Especially those 7 owners. You know how cheap they can be, hehehe, jk jk
