Well, I figure I will finally post what all has happened since only a few know. I wrecked my 8 on Thanksgiving, I was going to get onto I35 from 4th street, I turned off of 4th and was going down the clover leaf on my way to the on ramp. I was doing about 50 or so, and then something went wrong wrong wrong!!!! There was a patch of loose gravel, and the rear spun very hard, very fast, I threw in the counter steer, but it was too little too late. It spun the other way and slammed into the curb. So I screwed a lot of the suspension, but no frame damage. Busted 2 rims. So, the car right now is in the shop, and my new Stern ST8 Hypermesh II's are coming in on Tuesday. 18x8.5 in the fronts and 18x9.5 in the rear!!! I'm getting some good tires....I'm leaning towards BFGoodrich G-force T/A KDW 2's. And all of the suspension parts are on order right now. Should have the car back on Friday...hopefully!!!!!

Just thought I would finally share, I'm finally over the hurt enough to talk about it. For the time being I'm driving a Ford 500

 

O yeah, and I'm also set up as a dealer for ADR, and Stern rims, and a few others so if you might need anything, let me know

Sorry to hear man, something similar happened to me. I pushed on some loose dirt and slammed into a curb. fortunatley I only bent two of my wheels (BBS - ouch!) and my suspension was alright. After an allignment, i was ready to roll.

Oh that bites. **** will happen, at least you are connected and can recover some costs through them. Yeah post pics of the ride w/ wheels when all fixed.

 

Don't think too much of it! At least you have something else to look forward to! So all well be fine once you get her back.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I was curious did you have DSC on or off? Did it help you or screw you up?

The only time ever got my car sideways was when I got new tires and my installer way over inflated them. I had to do some sudden high speed breaking and lost the rear end with DSC on. Other than that I couldn't the car sideways if I want to.

I have a sport version, so I don't have DSC, nor do I care for DSC. But, tires that are inflated high like say in the 40's should have given you better traction....the more I think about it the more I think DSC might have saved me, but prolly not. I still don't like it, even if it would have saved me...and I wouldn't be getting all of the new goodies had I not done some stuff to the car. Speaking of goodies, what tires should I get, I'm going between the Nitto INVO and the BFGoodrich GForce KDW 2 and the Fuzion ZRi, I can't decide which ones...any suggestions?

More air in the tires means stiffer sidewalls, and allows the street tire to work better, thats why you put more air in your tires when you go to an autocross or something of that nature.

 

They look kinda like mine on my Ti-gray except mine are called HyperDark. I don't care for black rims.
That reminds me to go get some new pics....been some changes since this shot. I'm now on RE050A Bridgestone Pole Positions, the deflector is gone, there are front muds guards on the car now, and ride is lower.

yeah...my front bumper got jacked as well, so I have a new one thats going on and getting painted....and my wife just bought me clear corners for Christmas....SHHHHHH...She doesn't know that I found out...lol

 

and I def think that the rims should look good on my car, I'm pretty excited, just have to decide on the tires I want to get!

 

I first became a fan of traction control in my '96 Z28. While its fun to drift around corners etc, when you plan to do it, most of the time you would not want the back end to break away. After the Z28, I wouldn't own a rear drive car without it. You can always turn it off when you want to play. In the RX8 it has saved me numerous times when I was not expecting to loose traction.

 

First off, sorry to hear about the car.

Myardor, is right. Less air in your tires will give you a larger contact patch and more traction. The reason you air up street tires when you autocross is to prevent them from rolling over onto the sidewalls.

 

Second that. Higher than necessary inflation pressures will decrease the contact patch area, decrease rolling resistance... and decrease available traction.

For high performance street tires on a sub-3000 pound car, somewhere between 30-36 psi will be optimal. You certainly don't need 40+psi in your street tires on an RX-8.
