Brake fluid has caused stains in the paint on the front of his caliper. Mine is doing the same thing on the back of the calipers.

Let me know if you need a hand sometime this week after work. Hopefully we can get it done and do a photo shoot. I would like to get my trunk and hood changed out before saturday as well.

Paimon, you could have a leak at the SSV gasket but that would be very rare. Are you buy chance driving in rain?

Nope, no rain yet, just cold.

SSV gasket ... would that be gasket at the center 2 ports on the UIM (big oval gaskets)? If so, i suppose it is possible since I have removed my UIM twice before. But, I have sprayed that area quite liberally with MAF cleaner to no change in the trims.

There is a gasket at the actual SSV. It sounds dumb but is your filter clean?

Yup, filter cleaned w/ the K&N cleaner (dryflow) a week ago. MAF is brand new (just replaced it with a brand new one, Delphi, to diagnose). Intake piping is as straight as can be. Worm gears nice and tight. Honeycomb straightener.

oh also, this is going to sound real freaking dumb... but i was doing the hilbilly smoke test with a cigar to see if i can pinpoint a leak ... shitty cigar so it didn't smoke too well. Anyway, I used the brake booster line to puff smoke....

Blowing into the booster line I could hear a hissing coming from around the TB area. Now ... this could be completely normal, but just curious if someone is bored and wants to go test that out for me and try the same and let me know if they hear hissing.

My assumption was just the air bouncing around the UIM

edit.... spraying around the tb did nothing, so that is why i lean towards "normal"

Did a full trim reset (battery DC, brake stomp, [per s2 procedure]) after my maf replacement. (2 days ago)

Hmmmmm. Yeah well the TB is not air tight so that makes sense, you need to cap the TB and then try blowing smoke into it or making a leak tester like this:

RX-8 Hymee Supercharger Install - Smoke Tester

Yea i wanted to make sure there were no leaks around the TB gasket too, but I did block off the first intake pipe to the TB so that smoke didn't escape there.

Random food for thought from a thread that OD had:

"1- on the S2 model the ssv is activated whenever the secondary fuel injectors are activated, they are not rpm/load activated like the S1."

So if the intake was capped and you heard hissing near the TB then you have a leak somewhere.

K so suggestions on where to look while I am in there?

= Vac lines on intake (checked already, will check again)
= Check valve on UIM (already checked that, will check again)
= UIM Intake ports (large circle in the middle, 2 ovals at the top to the SSV)
= Solenoid behind the alternator that connects to the UIM (OEM catch can solenoid i think?

Purge valve, and yeah that could be a leak source as well. I have seen some seriously small leaks man, so listen carefully or use smoke.

The pipe dent was likely caused by over tightening the hose joint clamp
