Unhappy My RX8 Went on a Field Trip Today -

- via tow truck to Hiley Mazda of Hurst.

I tried starting her up on Saturday evening and the battery was dead. We tried again and we got click-click-click. We tried jumpstarting it and nothing. We tried Sunday afternoon, with the gas to the floor (anti-flooding procedures) just in case, and still nothing. The lights on the inside light up, but there is no turnover. Boxrs called Mazda Roadside Assistance this morning and she was just towed away.

She needs a couple maintenance things done for the 30k service and I need them to fix the stupid rattle, so maybe it's a good thing in the long run that the dealership has the car.

I'll keep ya'll updated.

PS - Slim - I told my 8 to say hi to your 8. At least they have company.

Sorry to hear this Tiff. Have you had the Starter/Battery/Plugs service done yet??? If not, im sure the dealer will change all of those out for you, and the new starter is EXTREMELY SWEET!!!

My car died again on Sunday, and I think I located the problem. It sounds like there is a loose ground conncetion somewhere, but im not sure where exactly. I may take it to the dealer to have them check all the ground connections since I don't know where they are.

Thanks Dazy... but mines not there anymore. However, I did see a few others there to keep her company. Good luck!

Geez!! I completely forgot that I did that! Ok, we're even.

I think the problem was the battery. I forgot what the dude said on the phone, but they're working on that problem and the service work. It'll be ready sometime tomorrow.

check the diy's , it's probably coming from the back half door window opener thing.

I've got a rattle in some door and a rattle underneath in the middle, somewhere near the engine. I'm going to see if an oil change fixes it considering it started when the BAD DFW dealership did my last oil change.

I'm getting the battery/starter/plug fix Harry. All should be good tomorrow.

Something funny - the service guy was telling me that flooding the engine is a common occurrence with this type of engine (and yes, the engine was flooded). He says that I should try to rev the engine above 6k a couple times to clean the carbon out from the plugs so the apex seals are sealing correctly. I told him that I always shifted above 6k and redlined as often as I could. He just laughed. If he only knew how we drove...

daisy, how old are your spark plugs?

One of the reasons they need to be changed every 30K is the flooding issue. with the latest flash and the newer plugs, you shouldn't ever have the problem again unless your plugs get really old.

Dang. Sometimes I wish I could flood just to get the new starter. I got new plugs at 15k and again at 30k. I don't even know what flash I'm on anymore though.
Hope you get it back soon considering this weekend is first saturday and then of course there's thursday.

Ajax,
just leave the lights on. I got the new starter/battery/plugs just because the battery died.

My plugs were replaced when the recall work was done - sometime last summer I think.

Dazy, that sucks about your car! Hope you get her back real soon.

Ajax: Every time you go to the dealership, just tell them that it's getting harder and harder for your car to start in the mornings. Tell them it has to crank for a long time. (they won't be able to replicate since when you get there, the car is already warm! hahaha)
They'll just upgrade your battery and starter if you complain enough.

I had actually forgotten about both. I think the car will be done today. *crosses fingers*

^^^ Ditto. I think my dome light was on. I'm not sure why though. That light is a red LED and you can't see anything anyway.

There's a rattle underneath in the middle somewhere and it sounds like it comes from the engine area. It started when I got my car back from the last time the oil was changed at the evil dealership. I'm hoping that they just didn't put something back right and this oil change will fix it, but I'm going to let them know and make sure it's stopped before I pick it up.

Maybe one of you guys can help me out with this.

Whats so special about a new starter?

Did Mazda redesign the starter for the 8? does it now spin the motor up to a higher rpm when start is engaged?

Thx

I don't understand the problem you guys are having trying to get the starter replaced. I just told them that my car was flooding and I wanted the new technical service bulletin done on my car. They didn't give me any hassel what-so-ever, I brought the car in on a saturday and they were done a few hours later.

I went to hiley mazda off 820.

The new starter is a 9 volt instead of a 12 volt starter. I would assume that means it's higher current and spins the motor faster at startup. Cars with the 9v starter start up noticeably faster.

I don't know if anyone is really having problems with having the starter replaced. Ajax mentioned he wanted a new one and a couple others said they were getting it. The issue has been with the car dying and/or flooding. THAT's what we're complaining about. We take it to the dealership to get fixed and the starter/battery/plugs get replaced.
