My car got pwned

Well, I finally got my car back last friday.... the clutch was going out on it, and I had to park it on an incline (parrallel) and when I got back in the car, the clutch didnt work. Threw it in reverse car went forward wasnt paying attention and smacked a truck with a hitch, the hitch went thru my bumper.

So, the clutch lasted a whopping 9,000 miles on my car... mazda charged me for the clutch and the bumper (of course)...

so $2.5k later I have my car back with another clutch... seems to be working fine... I just hope this one last longer than 9k miles or I am not using the mazda OEM clutch ever again.

it seems we are both having back luck with our 8. Granted I'm still on my original clutch @ 30,000 miles (and this is my 1st ever stick car) i cant say I can relate to your problem, but I did have someone break into my 8 and steal my briefcase at the hotel I live at for work. I'm just worried about them coming back sometime (even thought my car will be 100% empty) im still fearful.

had my clutch messing up. Had Mazda check it on the recall. The fluid that was being used from mazda was eating the seals and making the clutch go out. They flushed it out and replaced all the seals. Runs like a champ now.

evidently not, if I did have one it would go every 2 months with the BS drive I have to put up with every day, even my auto in manual mode doesn't leave 2nd until I'm almost all the way at work, and it's a 20 mile + trek both ways every day

Holy moly. Something is very wrong about those numbers. I am getting my clutch replaced as we speak (80k miles, I drive it like I stole it) because it went out the other day.

But, those 3 parts of the clutch costs $500 at tarkington mazda here in arkansas. I'm getting it installed at a local shop (not the dealership) for 450, so that makes out to $950 total. I can't believe the dealership would jack up their labor rate $250 higher than what this small shop is doing.

They're installing the new springs while they have my car too (1.75 Inch drop)... can't wait to get it back. I went by and saw my old clutch today, boy, it looked like someone put a cherry bomb in the clutch it was pretty bad.

(PS: You can get an aftermarket clutch from vivid racing for as little as $350 last time I checked.... I needed mine fast though)

DUDE!!!!! you got raped in my opinion, no #@%%@ing way should a clutch cost that much.
Hell a Racing Beat clutch kit isn't near that. Just looked it up and all the parts except pressure plate is less than $400. Go get some cash back, they kicked ya in the nads!!!

The 8s should have little rubber bumpers under the hood that can be twisted and moved up and down. I'm not at home to go look, but you should.

unfortunately this is the troof

sorry to say, if this didn't include something more than a bumper and paint then that funny walk you had for a few days can be easily explained. 1300 isn't much off the cost of an already painted genuine Mazdaspeed, a stock bumper costs right around 4-500 bucks tops, there's no way that place did 800-900 $$$ of paint, no f-in way, you could have had your whole car shot for that.

Note to local peeps here in Austin, please ask somebody before going off and doing something, even if you're not interested in joining TexasRxs don't think I won't be glad to help you out. The club is a hobby, not a qualification.
I've had ALOT of experience with body shops over the last 2 years, I can point you out to people who absolutely will not rip you off, who stand behind their work, and who will do all they can to help you. I'm 10000% positive I'm not alone in that as well, there are others here who will do the same. This makes like the 3rd or 4th post I've seen on a board where someone got jacked locally (there are some other places I frequent where similar stuff happens) and it's really crazy when there are resources at the ready who are willing to help. I saw this a while back and didn't say anything at first, so now I'm putting it out there so hopefully someone else will see this and ask before spending $.
