MS Body Kit Sideskirts worry me

I got the nose on my WB last night, looks great.

I'm worried about installing the side skirts myself and I'm thinking about paying Town North to do it while installing my MS Sway Bars on Monday. Am i nuts to do that?

jenkins-crew 06-08-2006 02:13 PM

We installed Harry's side skirts on his WB....oh its fun...:D:

ColtSwitch 06-08-2006 02:48 PM

so its that a vote for diy or tn mazda?

mysql101 06-08-2006 02:59 PM

depends on how much the dealer will charge.

ColtSwitch 06-08-2006 03:02 PM

89 x 2 hrs.

jenkins-crew 06-08-2006 03:53 PM

It is pretty easy if you follw directions well. It takes some drilling witch is hard to do to an 8 :D: trust me, I did it.

The Mighty Red 06-08-2006 03:54 PM

That depends.. Which one do you have?

A) The right tools, skills to use the tools, and patience.
B) a lack of any one of the above and an extra $180 to spend.

My theory is - what will it hurt to try? If you get stuck, undo it and pay someone else to finish.

bluesunlion 06-08-2006 04:22 PM

you could always just wait until the next shopday/burgers and beerfest. = )

sharkman 06-08-2006 04:48 PM

If you think you can't do it then most likely you cant (murphy's law). Pay someone to do it if you got doubts about it. just my 2 cents.

jenkins-crew 06-08-2006 04:59 PM

If you dont mind driving to ft worth i would help you do it....

ColtSwitch 06-08-2006 05:05 PM

thats my worry is my ms suspension, its hard to lift it anymore.

dazygirl415 06-08-2006 09:02 PM

I'm sure that if we all got together, we could getcha taken care of. :D:

BigOLundh 06-09-2006 01:12 AM

Your not a true g until you get a low-profile jack

:)

jenkins-crew 06-09-2006 06:53 AM

ooohhhh yeah!

ColtSwitch 06-09-2006 10:49 PM

just gonna have TN throw it on monday when they install the front and rear sways. MS suspension will finally be complete. I hope to make it out to the next time you guys get together to see what everyone else has done to their 8's.

jenkins-crew 06-10-2006 12:04 AM

man we could have save you a bunch a cash. we have done all that before.....oh well. Let us know how it all turns out, oh and you better post pics :D:

8 is enough 06-10-2006 09:47 AM

yeah, we are a pretty good install crew. We got the right tools, skills, and patience.

ColtSwitch 06-10-2006 09:51 AM

oh i believe you guys. But when stuff messes up down the road, i like to be like you guys installed it so fix it, and I don't want to have to do that with you. When I get the MS CAI (already ordered, just playing the waiting game) I might ask someone to come to my garage and help me. =) Maybe some of my ebay stuff will sell too. I need to clear out my garage.

canaryrx8 06-10-2006 10:58 AM

unless the place you're having them put on at is super duper friendly I wouldn't count on them being very supportive if you have problems down the road, I know from past experience most dealerships/service depts. frown on any kind of custom stuff/mods whatever as it makes more work for them. (engine parts throw off codes, body parts get in the way etc.)
You really are better off having those done with some knowledgable owners, especially people who have put them on before. Your car might be given to some import hating newbie who half asses your parts just to get your car out of the way otherwise. It's your money and your car, if you really want to take a chance at some dumb ass screwing it up instead of taking advantage of free help then by all means go for it :bigok:

ColtSwitch 06-10-2006 11:33 AM

Well i've heard good things about TN Mazda. They have gone above and beyond for me, the Parts' Guy Tom is great, Penny in Service seemed nice, I mean i'm open to some help, but i want to get them on ASAP and out of my garage. Plus as all of you know its freaking hot! :wallbash:

PS I noticed alot of you guys have aim - add ColtSwitch. If you guys think you can do it then i don't mine paying one of ya'll and i'll help or something. :yumyum:

ColtSwitch 06-12-2006 10:54 AM

she's at the dealership, and i got a phat ass chevy malibu! =) i hope my clear corners come today. Stupid me ordering them from Japan.

jenkins-crew 06-12-2006 12:26 PM

cool, let us know how it turns out!

ColtSwitch 06-13-2006 08:54 AM

Clear corners came today, and i'm gonna try to hit the dealership later to get my car back. Getting a dell TV installed today so i'm playing the waiting game at the house.

I want to see the 8~!

ColtSwitch 06-13-2006 08:55 PM

3 Attachment(s)
She's back. Full MS Suspension! Man its nice and tight. Enjoy. :wavey:

BigOLundh 06-13-2006 11:24 PM

nice

FABRO 06-14-2006 12:42 AM

looks good, you planning to get the rear too?

jenkins-crew 06-14-2006 06:46 AM

You and Harry are starting to look like twins, get a mint blue spoiler and it will be close. I guess we will need another blue to take Harry's place anyway. :D:

ColtSwitch 06-14-2006 09:28 AM

i'm still up in the air on the rear and the spoiler, i'm sure i'll get them, just not next on the list. i have a ms cai on order and ms jdm b-pillars. I probably will get the MS wheels before the rear too.

I also heard the rear is a bitch to install.

ftwmcmillan 06-14-2006 10:36 AM

It looks good. I just finished putting on the full mazdaspeed bodykit. So hopefully will have pics. It took me about 8 months to finally get the whole kit. I just waited on the forum and every once in awhile some of the vendors would have the parts at a very discounted price. I waited on the spoiler, but I finally purchased it on the forum brand new for $400. Couldn't pass that deal up.

ColtSwitch 06-14-2006 10:39 AM

I hear ya that spoiler is expensive. I'm waiting to see it in person b/c I don't like what i see in the pics so far. Ofcourse when the rx8 came out in 2004 i hated it. But hey i've owned an FC and FD so i thought it would be similar.

dazygirl415 06-14-2006 10:44 AM

I've got a replica MS wing and I'll be at Harry's going away BJ meet in July for sure. Until then, I won't be able to go to any meets. I've also got pics in my vbgarage that you can see if you'd like.

ftwmcmillan 06-14-2006 11:03 AM

I didn't really care for the ms spoiler at first. But it has grown on me. But I don't think I would have paid $800 for it. Who are you going to get to install your CAI?

you thought wrong :D:

ColtSwitch 06-14-2006 01:39 PM

I should be able to DIY on the CAI i would think. I might ask one of you guys to come to my garage and have some <3 rx8 time.

And yes i did think wrong. The idea of having a rotary under warranty helped my decision too.

Cool Daisy, i'd like to see that spoiler. Did u have the oem wing before that? If so is it a

dazygirl415 06-14-2006 04:11 PM

Yes, I had the OEM wing before the MS replica. The install itself is pretty easy. The hardest part was drilling the holes. The holes weren't exactly lined up with the OEM holes so we had to drill over a bit. With love, sweat and tears, Mr. Ed was able to get it installed correctly. It took a couple hours maybe. I don't plan on selling it separately so it's no biggie to me.

just messin' with ya', a lot of folks mistake the 8 for the next FD when Mazda themselves made it abundantly clear that was not the intention with this car. Having a warranty is shweet, especially when your car dies at the bodyshop while being worked on lol

WTF? Details!!

canaryrx8 06-15-2006 12:32 AM

long story short, I got a new starter and battery in addition to new bumpers etc. :D: (it was the infamous starter thing that happened, car iced right in the middle of them moving it while working on it, wouldn't start or nothing. Funniest thing was the guy on the phone "is there a trick to these or something? She won't start at all etc. " lol at "trick" :)

edit: this added about 3-4 more days to the car, add that to the 2+ weeks of bumper nightmares and it's easy to see why I'm still w/o it, been w/o it since a week after Easter :Eyecrazy:

BigOLundh 06-15-2006 01:00 AM

Thats pretty crazy. Hopefully youll be getting it soon.

canaryrx8 06-15-2006 06:02 PM

saw the car today, it is going to look AWESOME when I get it back, full threadage coming soon, ending hijack now. :)

Terrance26 06-28-2006 03:03 PM

glad to hear that you will be running again soon canary. By the way can anybody tell me how hard it is to put the mazdaspeed sideskirts on. I know it involves drilling but what kind of adhesive did you guys use to keep it holding strong, and how easy is it to take off the side appearance package. Thanks

BigOLundh 06-28-2006 10:57 PM

Taking off the OEM Sides is pretty easy.
Putting the MS sides on isn't hard because they give plenty of templates... and because of the templates it does take a lot of time.

The MS Sideskirt comes with 3M adhesive.

that's good to hear, mine are on the way and are supposedly among the last pair of pre-painted yellows in the U.S ;)

I think there is a reason for that

jenkins-crew 06-29-2006 07:03 AM

How is everything holding up with your kit Harry?
