Need some advice. I have a 04 RX8 with 91,000 miles it idles rough and sometimes looses power and twice has died and it takes a minute to start. Today it started loosing power real bad and it felt like the clutch was vibrating and making a weird metal to metal noise, could all this be due to loss of compression because I would still be covered under warranty. Please help the dealership is coming to pick it up today and I don't wont to be hosed.

Well the best advice is something you are already doing. Once its there, demand a compression test, and then wait for the results. Not much you can do besides wait at this point.

Which dealership? Most of us have had pretty good experience with Town North.

Make sure and tell them numerous times..."Lack of power". Anytime someone reports that, they are supposed to do a compression test first. Don't allow them to do any work on the car until they do a compression test and they give you the results. Sometimes, they'll try and fix a number of other options first before they go the route of the engine...just more money for them.

If it winds up being the engine, have them check the clutch at that time. Much easier to replace when they've got the whole engine out and unmounted from the transmission than paying to have them drop the transmission later.

Let us know how it goes and if you need anything else.

Update. My engine was loosing compression and will be replaced for free, I was also told that they would check my clutch my only problem with that is Rotary performance checked it 2 months ago and they told me it was fine and that I would need to fix my throw out bearing because it was making noise so I hope they don't try to get me for that (if rotary performance was right about it being OK).

just got my car back, now I can feel the power I was missing NICE!. Only bad thing is they told me my clutch is at around 20% so would need to be changed soon as I could. One thing I forgot to ask the dealership are the engines new they use as replacements and if not I wonder what the mileage would be...Thanks for all the advice.

The engines they use are remans. When they receive dead engines they tear them apart and put the parts that are still good into bins to reuse in new engines. When they issue you a remanned engine it is comprised of all of those 'good' parts and all new seals and gaskets. The only time you get a brand new everything engine is if they are out of those used parts. So there is a chance that the new engine will fail just the same as the old one, or it may go for 200k miles. Just treat it right from the start and hopefully it will last.
