I really want to self-install new speakers

...but don't know how.
Being an electrical engineer, this is somewhat embarrasing.
Does anyone in the Dallas (Plano, McKinney = ideal) area know how who would be willing to show me? I'd love to learn.

Thanks!

There's a pretty involved DIY for the rears (I'm going to start with just the fronts, I think)...but still, I'd be more comfortable if I had someone looking over my shoulder saying "NO!!!! NOT THAT WAY! That's reverse biased!" or "No, no - GROUND the circuit first. THINK, buddy, THINK!" etc.

Here ya go...

Plan on 4 to 6 hours if you're a noob at tearing apart the interior.
It's not difficult, only time consuming.

I did mine and also installed an indicator light to warn me that the trunk was open.

Thanks, but I don't even know how to get the door panel OFF. Those pics also don't show wiring very well. And I'm looking to replace the fronts first - those look easier. I've also got the stock system.
C'mon Dallas folk, help a Texan out!

what kind of replacements did you buy? since you're replacing the front...they should be 6x8's just a drop in.

Again, I don't know how to get the door panel OFF. Or which is the + wire and which is the - (I'm pretty sure the colors aren't standard).

You can put a volt meter on the speaker leads with the stereo on and watch the reading, it will fluctuate, but if you are using a DVM it will show a negative if you have the polarity wrong. It will show a regular positive reading if you have the polarity correct. Don't worry about the reading just if it is positive or negavtive. If you are using and analog meter it will only show a reading if you have the polarity correct.
