TX Houston RX8 help?

First off, hi and let me introduce myself.

I'm a young, recently infatuated and new owner of a used 2005, 6 speed RX8 manual tranny with ~50k miles on it. I live in SW Houston and consider myself still a noob when it comes to rotaries.

I have been looking around the market for the past 3 months while notoriously doing my research and study into the car, its rotary engine, maintenance, and so forth. I've felt comfortable and finally found one that I felt was a good fit for me.

Before buying the car, I had its engine compression tested at jeff haas mazda and it passed with flying colors, so I naturally made the purchase a couple of days after.

I checked the oil levels, topped it off, checked coolant levels, tire pressure, red lined it once a day per 35 mile commute, and anything else I thought I could do to take care of it. The car ran like a dream come true and I was very happy.

I've driven it 4 days until the engine cut off mid drive and now the car won't turn on.

I drove it on the i10, and when I got off and made a right turn into a main road, the engine cut off. After the car cut off, my friend and I pushed the car to the side and opened the hood to inspect what happened. We found something terrible. The coolant reservoir was completely empty. (Also, earlier in the day we noticed the coolant reservoir was boiling. We didn't know why, but stupidly postponed it.) We were going to get it looked at the next day.) Anyways, the reserviour being empty bogged me because it was full just 4 days ago and there were NO leaks. Thinking we overheated the engine, we got a gallon of water and put it into the reservoir tank. The water was eaten up by the hot engine and turned into steam. The whole gallon. We let the car cool down for another hour before putting more and then attempted to start the car to no avail. We had to get it towed back to my house where it is now.

There is now a oil leak coming from somewhere, as well as coolant leaking. Both are slow leaks, but leaking for sure.

I understand that I may have screwed up and/or gotten ripped off from the buyer or messed up somewhere and am willingly to accept my own fault in any of those categories, but I am in need of my fellow rx8 drivers in houston's help in order to have a healthy running rx8. I hope to god my engine isn't destroyed already.

Can anyone steer me into the direction of a rotary mechanic that can possibly diagnose the problem as to why my rx8 will not start and fix it? And how much/what it needs to be fixed? I have been calling various shops around houston and dreading not to go to the dealer.

I am willing to compensate for anyone that can possibly help me fix my rx8 and repair it back to tip top shape.

Please send me a PM, text, or reply and I will greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

Shan - 281 881 6816

Hi Shan! Sorry to hear about your car. Jeff Haas and Joe Myers have the best reputation as far as I know. I don't know what part of town you are in, but do not take your car to Mazda Clear Lake (personal experience). Unfortunately, you're screwed for third-party shops in Houston that will look at your engine. Bite the bullet and take it to the dealer. Alternatively, there is a shop called MazMax ( Maz-Max - Mazda, Mitsubishi or Kia vehicle parts ), but I have no idea what they are capable of. Hope it works out okay.

Sorry to hear that. I've had good luck at Joe Myers Mazda with my RX-8. Brandon one of the service managers is really knowledgeable. (Plus they give you e-mail coupons for 9.99 oil changes.)
