It happened again...
but this time it wasn't my fault and there was no tree.
I was driving north on Bryant Irvin. A truck pulled halfway into the street, taking up the right lane, but he was stopped waiting for traffic to clear. He didn't see me and thought traffic was clear so he went. I was already going slow because of the rain, but I hit him and the front right of the car is crumpled. See pics...
Since I'm a pro at this, the claim has been started and I'm about to call Hiley and Enterprise as soon as I'm off the phone with the insurance company.
Stats:
hit by a 2005 Red Ford F250, USAA is their insurance company

ahhh shitty
On the other hand, glad to hear you're okay and metal is fixable anyway
So what's your next mod going to be now? different hood? It's all good, now you can fix all your rock chips too!

I think I'm going to replace what's broken with the same thing. I don't think it was repaired properly the first go around anyway. I like the color so the hood will be red. I'm hoping they replace the bumper with the real thing, so that can be considered a mod I guess. I needed to replace that blinker (wrong color) and the fog light (burned out) so maybe that will be taken care of for me. I'm just hoping that there isn't any frame damage. I probably won't know anything until the end of this week. The adjuster is expected to go out this Friday.
Anyone want to take bids on what the rental will be? It's through Enterprise...

USAA usually moves quickly, at least from the insured's standpoint. I've heard they can be a huge pain in the *** to negotiate with, but that was for someone that was dealing with a total loss versus fixing.
Cliff notes: USAA should be pretty fair, fast, and good. Document everything ( like we know you will anyway)
So sorry your baby is all dinged up again!

i'm so sorry....hope it gets repaired asap. If it makes you feel any better, I got rear ended today, and the lady wouldn't give me her insurance number so I had to get a cop to settle it, god.

I'm sorry to hear you got hit too Raptor.
The rental is a Nissan Altima. It was a originally a Pontiac Grand Prix, which I couldn't see over the steering wheel. Then a Ford Taurus with the same problem. I was going to leave in a Ford Windstar (aka minivan) when a lady walked in returning the Altima.
I'm definitely documenting everything. My car has arrived at the shop and all they need is a signed work order to get things done. That should be done later today.

Well at least Martin isn't around anymore...lol...should get done quick and right. Good luck Tiff and let me know if you need anything. If you want the real thing go ahead and call Hiley and ask them to fax you a quote for a Mazdaspeed bumper so you can give it to the adjuster later.

Hey Tif,
I'm a USAA customer (member is the term they use). Like RG said; USAA is a stand-up company - they should do well for you. I apologize for my fellow member - we're not all perfect.
Some words of advice about the rental -
1) make sure Enterprise understands you want "$0 out of pocket". This is to be "100% covered by the insurance company."
2) Make sure USAA authorized enough days for the rental. Sometimes they only authorize 5 or 10 days at first. Then you have to call back and get further authorization for more days once the body shop has a more solid estimate.
I was burned by both when I hit the deer. Hertz tried to hit me with an $800 charge, "your insurance only covered $XXX sir, you must pay the difference." Then when USAA authorized the full 30 days Hertz tried to say I had the car for 31 days (also wrong - I called 3 times to check the return date *and* time). Finally, they tried to charge me $32+/day when my insurance only paid $30.00/day. I "convinced" the manager to drop it. He would have gotten less money renting it at $35/day for 4 out of 7 days/week. I had the car for 30 days straight and they got paid for every single day of that month. Greedy, lousy, stone-headed, (mutter, mutter, mutter).
Sorry to hear about the damage to your car. Can I cheer you up? My local dealer fixed far, far worse when I hit that deer ($10,000+ damages) and my car was only 5 weeks old - less than 3,000 miles on it. They fixed it to like-new. No real complaints - it looks and handles great.
Additionally, I've walked away from two other cars that could never be fixed, plus my wife's 'battle-van' has been repaired 4 times following 6 major front-end collisions. Add that to scratch and dings and it's a wonder I've never had more than an occasional bruise or small nose-bleed (Not the face! Not the face!)
It's always frustrating to have your 2nd largest physical asset damaged - especially if you really like that car. However, I always figure - better the car than me!

Sorry to hear tiffany!! Glad you are ok!!
Good thing is USAA really is a stand-up company and won't screw around with you.
But girl, hey, you're really messing with the curse of the silver coming over to red
When you back up in Chicago????

I think it may have been a silver that the paint shop decided last minute needed to be red to make quota. It would explain all of the extra sparkle... I got everything from the bottom of the bucket.
Red - I'm not sure when I'll be in Chicago again. I don't think we're traveling this Christmas so it may not be until next year. On the flip side, when are you coming to Fort Worth?!?!
Question - Would I be crazy to seriously consider trading it in? It's been in 2 accidents, it's got low mileage... with the exception of the accidents, trade-in value is somewhat decent. I could have really low payments on something brand new for half as long as the original note and get better gas mileage. I'm also getting concerned about modding - you can put money into the car but you don't get it back. I could "invest" in a car and have more to spend on a house... or a family... What does everyone think?
