Brillo to be at Texas World Speedway's Drivers Edge Event - March 3-5th

I'll be attending the Drivers Edge Event at Texas World Speedway in College Station the weekend of the 3rd of March. For those interested, watching the event is free both Saturday and Sunday, and you will get the opportunity to parade lap the track at a reasonable speed ~70mph.

The DE events are always a show in terms of harware, expect to see Porsche's Ferarri's RX7's Miata's and who knows what else.

If you've never been and aren't to far away, its a cool thing to see, I recommend checking it out.

:-/ Let me know if you ever come out to the PCA events. I've seen a Ti-Grey out there with Razorback-looking Magnets at the PCA DE's, but I've never seen another 8 owner out there besides that guy, and didnt get to meet em.

Hmm, well from a distance there was a huge red blob, possibly your numbers? Do you run with Red or Yellow group or something? I was there Dec 17 in the Winning Blue.

Weird.

I dont have anything on my car, I was running with the Blue group and my brother was running my car in the green group. I swear I don't remember seeing a Blue 8 out there on Saturday, otherwise I would have hunted you down.

Just asked my brother, he thinks he remembers breifly seeing you. How long were you there for?

I may have the dates wrong. Went out with LSRPCA several times.
Here's a pic of my first time out last June. I'll have to meet you next time we overlap.

The sound of that car down the straightaway was amazing. Any Idea how fast he was going?

Edit: Micheal do you know if the guy who takes the photos cares about them being posted? If not then I will probably scan mine and put them in the thread.

Same picture was on the LSRPCA website for quite some time. I bought mine on a CD so I'd assume he doesn't care what you do with pictures of your own car. There's no watermark or anything on any of the other ones, either. That picture is the only one with any indication of who the photographer is or what event it was at, and i'm 100% positive it was up on the website - probably still is.

Michael, was Vivian (also known as Trixie) your instructor? She has a yellow 3rd gen RX-7. She's the person on the far right in your picture with the pink hat. She doesn't have a Porsche though. She has had students with RX-8s before. We only live a couple of miles apart so I chat with her pretty often.

Although her name escapes me, I've seen the woman in the pink hat at all of the DE's i've attended. I think that you might be confused. The lady on the far right is married to a doctor (guy standing next to #350 silver porsche in the green shirt), they live on a ranch and own and are constantly rebuilding their porsches. I think he works at frostwood dental if i remember correctly, and they run marathons together. (kind of scary what you learn from people just by eating at saltgrass / tbone's with them) This was a picture of the 1st timers so I'm 100% positive the woman in the pink hat wasn't/isn't an instructor.

As far as instructors go, I've had a plethora, but havent had or met Trixie.

Wait a second. You're right. I know her. She's Trixie's friend.

Yea you have to register for the actual event. Its the 4th -5th of march, My expirenece has been to get there around 6:30-6:45 to make sure you get a garage spot of choice, If you read my last post They are filled up to a waiting list, Registering now to race is way to late.

For parade lap anyone is allowed to go, no helmet is required. In the past when I was there Jack had the parade laps scheduled for 12:30 or so. Though a few times he just completely skipped over them.

Well I survived my first track event with the car at TWS, some others we not so fortunate as to leave in the car they brought, we had several off track experiences resulting in some damage, mostly due to cars with too much power and not enough driver, but that’s a whole other issue.

Couple of thoughts on the car. Some minor suspension mods go along way. The full MS kit I have really shined out there, the car was very stable and predictable, it didn’t get unsettled at high speed even over some uneven pavement.

I found the car to be very communicative, you can feel it begin to slip and use that to your advantage. Any form of slide is very predictable, it doesn’t snap, even when you do something stupid such as lift in a corner.

The power band works well on the track, but you have to be good at shifting quick, I’m not, I was so focused on getting the line right that I prolly gave up some speed as I should have shifted down into second. I’m going to work on this.

My tires worked well and had enough grip for about 5 laps before I could feel them getting greasy. I lowered my pressure to about 31psi cold which seemed to help. Brakes were solid, no fade, fluid still looks good in spite of the abuse. I would say all you need for serious track duty would be some better pads and fluid.

If you haven’t done a track day, you should you get a whole new respect for the vehicle.

Glad you had a good time. Sounds like alot of fun.
So... are you saying the MS Body Kit helped make your car more stable, or are you referring to your entire suspension package (like MS Springs/Shocks/Sway Bars/Strut Bars)???
