TX Autocross this Sunday (03/08) Houston

Get your *** out there. There's no excuse not to.

Worried about your engine?
Don't be. This isn't drag racing. You'll spend most of your time between 5k & 7k RPM. Your engine will thank you.

Worried about your transmission?
Shut up. You shift *once* in an autocross... unless you spinout... or stall. Don't do that, and you'll be fine.

Worried about tires?
Stop whinning. You bought a car that handles like a ballerina for a reason, and I doubt that reason was to drive in straight lines to and from work every day. 40 - 50 seconds of tight turns in 2nd gear isn't going to put more than a week or two's wear in your rubber.

Worried about brakes?
Don't be stupid. I'll say again, some sudden braking at 50mph for less than a minute isn't going to kill your brakes. And if you're brakes and rotors are that bad, you're going to have to replace them anyways. You paid for the whole pad - not the first 80% of it. Come out and get your money's worth.

Too far of a drive?
Go die. You don't buy a driver's car unless you like driving it. You don't mind the drive and you know it.

Don't want to spend that much money on fuel?
**** you. Get a Civic, then. You knew damn well what you were getting yourself into with this car, and you also know damn well you've got the money.

Hesitant about driving like a complete dope in front of a large crowd of people?
Get real. The SCCA is an national organization founded for the sole purpose of tearing up random parking lots by driving like a complete jackass. If you slide all over, knock over 20 cones, stall 6 times, and get lost on all 4 of your runs - hate to break it to ya, son, but you're only average.

Don't think your car is "fast" or "modded" enough to come out and compete?
Pull your carbon fiber thumb out of your ***. The only modification made to a car that's worth a spit is tightening up the loose nut behind the wheel. Go ask the guy in the stock MazdaSpeed 3 who kicked the living **** out of a fire-breathing, 700hp, NASCAR inspired, fully race prepared V8 on race tires wide enough to block a doorway if he felt his $13,000 4-banger was "ready" for a race that day.

Don't have the money?
Get a new job. Autocross costs about the same as a full tank of gas. If your budget so tight that an unexpected fuel leak could send you on a downward spiral into bankruptcy, then you should consider moving back in with your parents, and asking your boss at Burger King for a raise.

Want to come out but don't know what to expect?

Then shut your lips and learn.

Step 1: Go to www.dlbracing.com and create an account. It's no more expensive or challenging than it was to set up your account on this forum. You can do it. I believe in you.

Step 2: Go to the calendar and find the event labeled "HOUS (AX)" on the 8th. Registration is simple.
If you want to race in the morning, register for the "STB" class.
If you want to race in the afternoon, register for the "X-STB" class.
If you want to race in both the morning and the afternoon, register for the "STB" class, then double-enter at the event. (There will be an announcement)
Select the "I'll buy my numbers at the event." It's free. They're loaners. Or you make your own with painters tape.

Step 3: Go to www.houscca.com and click the "SOLO (autocross)" link on the left side of the page. There are maps, directions, and a bazillion FAQs for newbies.

Step 4: Go to the event at the time recommened on their website. Unlike these forums, members of the SCCA really really like newbies, and don't mind holding peoples' hands through their first day. This isn't like a street race or a car meet - no one here has "attitude", no one has "anything to prove", and any "competition" is very friendly. We're all out there to have a damn good time driving like A-holes in our cars, regardless if they're full-on race prepared, or held together by zipties and duct tape.

We love beginers, and we welcome them all with open arms. It's impossible for a first timer to show up fully prepared, so we've got all the tools & supplies you might have forgotten, or just plain don't have. Just don't be a *****, do what is asked of you when it's asked of you, and you'll have a great time.

If you have any other questions, you can post them here, or in the houscca forums. Just don't PM me - I check these forums maybe once or twice a month.

This is the most hostile recruiting campaign I have ever seen!

I'll have my car back tomorrow, but I need to gently break in my transmission.

I think I'm going to try to get someone without an RX-8 to let me drive their car!

Oh btw, Nick has Azenis. Prepare to lose!

Edit: I'm borrowing someone elses car so if worst comes to worst just destroy someone elses car. That's what I'm planning to do!

heheh glad you like the new approach.

Asking nicely never resulted in a good turnout, so I figured I'd try something new.

BTW the STB class is an S2K-a-thon.
As of right now it's 2 RX-8s, 7 S2Ks, and 3 Evos.

I really don't think my new tires are going to help much
