Smile About that tree I killed....

We have a chat room? Where is it? Can someone post a link? Wow, I guess that suggestion box really does work!

Since my other thread that talked about my RX8 and how it was wrecked and how it's getting fixed and what body kit is going to be installed and what aftermarket exhaust was put on there and what type of hood was going to be put on there (all pretty on-topic to me ) WAS CLOSED ANYWAY, I thought I'd start a new thread and TALK ABOUT THE CAR SOME MORE!! :D

The body kit and side skirts came in au natural, not even primed. Martin will be taking care of that as well as painting (nothing new here). He's conjured up a tub of VR paint that's incredibly close, if not exact, to the manufacturer's color. He's painted a couple cars with it and they look great. The skirts were heavier than I thought they would be, but that's just me thinking out loud. The fit on the front is good, but Martin will need to drill some holes to install. It definitely looks like a project. :o

Mr. Ed is the proud owner of a relatively new, tree-dodging front rotary accent (right place at the right time will do you wonders ) and if my clear corner bulbs come up missing, someone's going to be in big trouble.

I was wondering why it got closed, we did talk about an RX8 in the Gulf area. We are also not all on at the same time so a chat room wouldn't really help, IMOA. We need threads to come and check on the progress of an RX8.

Darn, I was hopin to get that accent...oh well. Gues I will just have to get a body kit now :D

Many of guys are notorious (even self-professed) post-whorers. That's why the warning thread went up at the top of the section.

Personally, I have not had time (with school) to keep up with the threads like I am supposed to (however that will change after may 6th) so another mod stepped in and did the job.

I have been rather leinient hoping that people might curtail their off-topic or rambling conversations.. sadly.. it has hardly made a difference so another mod stepped in and took over. It isn't the first time.. and most likely won't be the last.

Thanks everyone.

Question: Is talking about an 8 being "under construction" not permitted? Not trying to be a smart ***, just wanting to know what the boundarys are.

And I personally didn't think that thread had strayed far from off topic, but whatever.

Take a look at most (almost all) of the posts on pages 8, 10, 14.... etc

Additionally, half or more of the posts read like a diary.. at times I wondered if someone had to take a pee-break if they might post about it... (or did they?).....

While I will agree there is some merit to the content here and there.. a lot of it revolves around things that are irrelevant to the purpose of the forum section.

In my opinion a thread like this "technically" should have fallen under a technical section and not a regional section. But that's a RX-8 (horse) of a different color.

Question of the century.

It is so trivial that this thread was closed because mods thought someone was trying to increase their post count. BFD, who cares, and get over yourselves. At the end of the day was it that big of a deal that if nothing was done someone would have lost sleep over this? How lame...

Actually the monopolistic use of a public forum for the use of a select group of members does hurt the public forum in the end. You guys communicate on such a frequent level that the threads stay on top all the time.. it isnt always fair to the other forum users.... especially when people are posting things that are off-topic.. (possibly just to see the thread be "legitimately" bumped).

I am fine with you guys policing yourselves.. but someone needs to step up and keep things on track... because when you fail to monitor your own actions someone will step in.... and as it is apparent you guys don't like it when that happens.

The problem we are seeing now is not a new one.. .people (young adults especially) do not know how to deal with authoriity and being told they can't do something. Therefore they will (and most likely shall) do anything in their power to subvert that authority.

I really don't want to see this escalate into a pissing match..but from the posts expressed here (and the PM's I have recieved) in the last 24 hours it is clear that is where it is being taken.

yours'
Keith

Do we have a moderator for this sections or can one be appointed, I'll volunteer, I like things to stay on track just as much as the next person. We are however human and things do get off track and that's where a moderator could come in handy to clean it up.

Thanks,

Chris

Things tend to get a bit too far off track in here though.

I realize it's all in fun, but there's whole sections of threads (and i've been sucked into them too) that are just not even on the topic of the thread, aside from the off topic threads we already have in here. It becomes difficult to find the useful information among the off topic posts.

I really don't think Dr. Killjoy should be getting nasty PMs about this though and it doesn't really need to escalate into hostility among this little group. We're a big community and we're overly friendly and social. We just need to remember a little self control and try to keep off topic posts in our threads to a minimum as to maintain the cohesiveness of the thread itself. Otherwise, the thread topic really serves no purpose as the useful information is lost.

Anyway.. i think i just restated myself..
everybody relaxe and take a quick step back from the forum.

Yes. there are several moderators for this section.

Currently I run point on that duty.

However, I am on limited duty until the first week of May.

Therefore, in my stead the other moderation staff is keeping an eye on things in addition to their regularly scheduled duties.

Ajax says it well... and I believe I have said all I need to say about the subject.

Like I said, I feel like you guys deserve to have a little room to run.. however it is important to remember the needs of others above ourselves.

.done.

I wish we had a lounge like the South Forum lounge on the RX7 club. That seems to work great over there from all i can tell.

Just take note that ONLY the south forum has a lounge of all of the regional forums. I wonder how well that went over with all of the other forums when they put that in, but I wasn't around to see it happen so I don't know.
I don't see why we need special treatment just because we're more vocal than most of the other groups..

The reason it went over so well is because we hang out together much more than any of the other regions. Since most of the people posting knew each other REALLY well there was more tendency to jump off-topic. Well that and the fact just about everybody there has a bad case of A.D.D.
So for the last year and a half or two that has made things work very well. There may be other regions that have had really big parties like we have thrown at Eric Carter's for the Superbowls etc. but none of the other forums I have lurked into seem to have more than a few people that hung out on a regular basis.
That and the people that don't like the "chatter" can stay out of the lounge so it serves another purpose with that.

Our 8 gulf members sound much like the 7 south members. We all get together, out side of meets, and hang out and have fun so it's hard to not let those conversations spill into what we talk about here. If there's a vote or if it helps the cause, I think a chat or lounge for the gulf region, heck for all the individuals regions, would be a good idea. I can think of numerous reasons why, too many to name, but I haven't yet thought of a reason not too......

Here are my final thoughts on this topic and since the upgrading of a wrecked 8 isn't worthy enough to be discussed, I'm not making any posts in this thread until my car is done (since this thread has been hijacked anyway ):

One purpose of a forum is to bring together people with the same likes. A good portion of the 8 owners in the DFW area have become good friends thanks to this forum and it should be considered a success. I think the mods should realize these new relationships and that the intentions of those in the gulf section are not malicious. I agree that in general, threads should stay more "on-topic," however I do not think it's that big of a deal if they stray every now and then as long as they are not offending anyone (ex: no ****, offensive language, etc.). I think everyone, both members and mods, need to chill out and relax a little. This is feeling like a battle that will never be won so why don't we call a truce?

Side note: Is there really an issue with "writing style" or is it a personal preference?

I don't expect, nor want, anyone to reply to this message. I won't reply to your message if you do so it's a waste of your time.

For those non-gulf members who have been keeping up with my car saga (thank you), I will post when it's done, which I hope is very soon.

Tiffany

I visited your baby today and talked to martin for awhile. It looks like your bar in the front is supposed to be her tomorrow so he can start pulling the frame. I also think you are getting a K&N Intake :D He said he was going to work on your car all weekend and told me too that he was going to try and get everything done by next week, so we will see!
