2 more wrecked '8s

I didn't want to be the hi-jacker today and I'm really not in the mood to be flamed, but a lot of people are asking what happened last night.

I was driving home last night and had a lot of things on my mind. I was coming to an intersection when I noticed Coop was in front of me slowing down to turn right. It was too late for me to stop so I took the curb to the right. I went through the grass, hit some kind of meter, tried to stop, and didn't make it. I hit the intersection as Coop was turning right and hit his front fender.

As far as damage goes, mine is worse than I thought it was last night. I'll have pics later. My front end is messed up, driver fender is messed up, 2 wheels are beat pretty bad, I have a scrape down the passenger side of my car, and my passenger rear wheel is cocked in. It's not straight like the other one. Anyway, I've filed with insurance and am waiting to hear back.

dazygirl415 05-20-2005 11:37 AM

Sorry to hear this Slim. It's tough, I know, but it'll be ok in the end. No one was hurt and that's what matters. We're all here to help you through this. :D

Slims8 05-20-2005 11:39 AM

Yeah, I know. I've had my car for a year and been without it for 4 months already. Now I'm expecting at least 2 more. Can anyone see if Martin wants another project?

blake8581 05-20-2005 11:42 AM

sorry to hear about that bro, but at least you walked away ya know

jenkins-crew 05-20-2005 11:50 AM

I am sure he will take it, he is a pro now :D

Guess you pulled a dazy and now you can do some mods....you were talking about something like this tuesday, this was planned huh.

All I got to say is, I hope I'm not next!

Here she is...

The last pic shows the scrape down the passenger side. The lighting is bad, so the pictures just doesn't do it justice. The second one you can see my rear wheel is cocked a little. Don't know what that is. And the first one you can see the main damage. Once again the lighting sucks.

Diabolical RX8 05-20-2005 12:25 PM

Sorry to hear that happened.

The first pic is pretty nasty.

Slims8 05-20-2005 12:27 PM

Yeah, it cracked the headlight too. My fender well is gone, and I don't want to drive it because of the rear passenger wheel.

Really it's not my car I'm worried about. I just feel bad about Coop's car. How's it looking? Anything we didn't notice last night?

Coop '04 05-20-2005 12:43 PM

I don't know what all may be underneath but I think we pretty much saw what it was last night... It hurt more this morning when I turned the garage flourescents on. I didn't even look last night in the light when I got home... Thanks for the concern, but I feel bad for yours since it's so much worse.

bluesunlion 05-20-2005 12:56 PM

Ugh. that sucks for both of you. Hope you're fixed up soon.

As long as the wheels are still in the round, most cosmetic stuff can be handled by wheels America-They do an awesome job for a reasonable price.

ALWAZL8 05-20-2005 01:44 PM

Man, sorry to hear about the 8's guys. :(

Klar 05-20-2005 02:47 PM

*not wanting to fight*

Sucks guys. I hope both of you are ok and get the cars looking good again soon.
Didn't you just get "newer" tires on the rear?

dazygirl415 05-20-2005 03:10 PM

He did but he hadn't put them on yet.

garlandrx 05-20-2005 03:37 PM

RX8-TX 05-21-2005 09:05 PM

dazygirl415 05-22-2005 12:24 AM

Any update from the insurance Slim?

Slims8 05-22-2005 06:45 PM

I talked to them yesterday, but all they said was someone should call me tomorrow. I'll give my statement and hopefully get things rolling. I guess I'll just hope for the best.

Yeah, I had them. They were in the back of my truck. I had planned on putting them on this weekend. I think that would have saved some problems.

jenkins-crew 05-22-2005 07:53 PM

Have you called Martin to see if he will be upto it?

Slims8 05-22-2005 08:20 PM

Not yet. I'm waiting until I give my statement tomorrow and see which direction this is going to go. If anyone knows him personally, could you put in a word that I may be getting in touch with him?

Just curious, anyone know how easy it would be to repair the front bumper? It doesn't seem like it is very repairable. I'm just trying to see if it's going to be replaced or repaired.

dazygirl415 05-22-2005 08:28 PM

I'm going up there this week so I'll talk to him for you.

Slims8 05-22-2005 08:36 PM

Thanks... I hope you didn't give him fear of RX8s!

dazygirl415 05-22-2005 08:39 PM

I don't think I did. He's always talking about how he practiced on mine so the next one he would know what he was doing. :)

Slims8 05-22-2005 08:47 PM

Well, thanks for your sacrifice!

Mr. Ed's rx-8 05-22-2005 09:47 PM

yeah and he got some good passenger side practice on mine.

sorry to hear about what happened. i'm sure martin we'll be happy to help out. if you get a new bumper though i would not go with the replica MS bumper. that thing was hard to work with. i'll also swing by and talk to him tomorrow after i get off work. see what his work load is like and see what he can do for you.

glad that both of yall are ok.

jenkins-crew 05-22-2005 10:04 PM

I will have a stock bumper cheap soon you could paint :D

Slims8 05-22-2005 10:11 PM

If it's not repairable, I do not want go back stock

Thanks for the help guys. It always helps to have someone who knows Martin to talk to him. I'm just crossing my fingers everything comes out well.

jenkins-crew 05-22-2005 10:15 PM

You know it will, don't sweat it!!!

BLUE_SIX 05-22-2005 11:42 PM

Just got thru reading the forum and looking at the pics. I'm really sorry guys. I hope that
everything turns out okay with the insurance, and both cars come back 100%. Sorry again

Coop '04 05-24-2005 08:12 AM

Dropped it off yesterday at Caliber in Plano. Got the rental from Enterprise (Neon) blechh!!!

They were out of bigger cars. After this happening every time I have needed a rental I see now that reservations mean nothing. They tell you that a car is reserved for you and they take like 10 minutes worth of info, blood type, hair color, dna, tax return, credit card over the phone. I walk in and am required to give the same info again, and find out that they are out of big cars.

Are they a government agency?

-Coop

dazygirl415 05-24-2005 08:40 AM

Government won't ask for your hair color, they want your first born child instead. :D

Coop '04 05-24-2005 10:28 AM

I knew I got something confused. That's the county office that wants hair color, thanks Dazy. :D

jenkins-crew 05-24-2005 10:40 AM

Sounds like a Seinfeld episode :D

TeamRX8 05-24-2005 06:48 PM

sorry to hear that for both you guys :(

irish8 05-26-2005 07:33 AM

8's wrecked! Tears! :( Hope all works out ok.

- Danny

Slims8 05-26-2005 08:04 AM

It looks like it is... I'm still waiting on my estimate and Coop seems to be on his way. Hopefully he'll be back soon. I'm not in too big of a hurry because I have some things to do to it anyway. It will probably be a 2-3 month wait for me.

Slims8 05-27-2005 09:38 AM

Need some help... can someone get me an address and phone # for Martin's? I'm headed to FW in about 15 minutes to a jobsite and would like to stop by there.

dazygirl415 05-27-2005 10:21 AM

PM'd you.

Slims8 05-27-2005 05:15 PM

Thanks Dazy. I talked to Martin and he said not to worry. I'm taking my car to him tomorrow. Hopefully she'll be back to normal soon.

RBRx8 06-01-2005 11:51 AM

Sorry to hear about your 8's but as been said glad everyone is OK. Man! is sure miss all of you all. Since I've moved to Louisville I've seen several 8's and found a KY rotary site but I was the last to post to the site ( MAY 3rd !! ) so not much activity. I check out the Gulf forum just to keep up with things. Hope the 8's get fixed properly.. everyone take care.

Slims8 06-01-2005 07:14 PM

Thanks... everything is definitely getting taken care of. I haven't heard from Coop, but my parts are being ordered. She should be good as new...

Coop '04 06-02-2005 07:37 AM

Picking it up today hopefully...They had issues with redoing the wheel that was scratched. They said they didn't have a socket that was thinwalled enough to get the lug nuts on/off without scratching the wheel they got repainted so they took it to Discount who then proceeded to scratch the wheel. So back to get the wheel re-done added two more days. GGGRRRR  but at least today looks good.

Slims8 06-03-2005 05:19 PM

Glad to see everything is back to normal for you. Mine will be started on next week. The damages keep adding up. It looks like they are going to repaint the entire car except the top! Oh well, it'll be out sooner or later.

NYT-OWL 06-03-2005 08:56 PM

OK, have you made out your "wish-list" yet of replacement (modds)?

Slims8 06-04-2005 11:23 AM

Just for my car to look all better again... :D My windshield and key mark are getting fixed, I will say that much.

Slims8 06-13-2005 09:52 PM

Thanks for the concern Dazy. Finally got started on it today! Over 3 weeks now. Parts have been ordered and they want to repair my wheels. Sooner or later she'll be back.

dazygirl415 06-13-2005 09:58 PM

I thought there was a thread somewhere. :o

I'm hoping Martin orders your kit soon. I may get a little something out of that too. He mentioned something about two-toned? Black and red? What do you have up your sleeve? :D

Slims8 06-14-2005 11:33 AM

Just one more update... the "official" amount just went from $2100 to $6100. They are still missing some things, but the big amount is in the mail.
