06 RX8 Heart Transplant...
To my understanding, the compression problems were fixed in the 06+ models... Guess I heard wrong. My beloved is at the dealer waiting to receive a new motor due to low compression. I know it's been discussed before, but any tips on making this one last a bit longer than 21k? Don't really wanna be swappin engines every 20000 miles. I'm considering running pre-mix from the get-go with this one, I can't really see what else i can do. I religiously changed the oil every 3k or less, redlined at least once a day, normally shift around 4k rpm... Idk... This is depressing, any tips, break-in procedures etc?

I've never once seen the temp needle go any higher than it did the day i got it. I flushed the radiator in May and topped off the fluids when the issues started, though they weren't low... I try to make any excuse i can to be under the hood lol. Could it possibly be the Texas heat causing these problems? We've had like 30+ days straight of triple digit temps. Anyone else experience power or stalling issues recently? A lil more info i suppose, I put the K&N V2 on at about 8k miles and test pipe at around 15k. Removed both when i first started noticing the power loss but it didn't really help anything. Also the car was in a front end collision but i can't see that being the cause as the issues became noticeable shortly before the accident.
Possibly run a heavier oil. Maybe 10w-30.
Other than that if you are babying it while you drive DON'T.
Its been reported several times that the #1 cause of engine failure is carbon build up. So drive it hard every now and then.
Other than that I feel you on the heat. My battery just died this weekend and I'm sure the triple digits we've had is what did it.

i was having stalling issues for a couple weeks but it turned out that my throttle body was extremely dirty and now it idles a lot better but still a tad bit rough. anyone have any ideas on what it might be? i havent had the compression checked yet but i have no power loss. if i have anything its power gain
I have 69k on mine with no probs, but I drive the hell out of my car pretty much on a daily basis. We have been seeing the triple digit temps up here for a while as well which isn't normal for OK. It did destroy my battery, but replaced with a redtop, so no biggy. I haven't had any temp issues though. I run royal purple 10w-30 in my car. Just some info. GL w/ your new engine
don't baby it is the best advice I can give.

Don't believe the hype. Many of us ran heavier oils, revved our cars daily, and it did not make a bit of difference. The series I is just flawed from a design standpoint. Your only hope is premixing and possibly running a synthetic oil but in reality not really anyone has made it to 100k on a single motor. I just got my third engine thanks to Texas heat and I am running premix and I'm running 0W40. Only time will tell what the proper combination is.
I dunno but from what i have seen and heard.... if the engine is gonna go, its gonna go no matter what you do to prevent it.... a bad part is a bad part
Personally, i am running dealer reccomended 5w20, using 93 octane, keeping the oil full at every fill up, everyone once in a while ( not daily) run it hard to redline in 1st 2nd and 3rd.... if she blows up, its under warranty

One of the Houston RX-8 guys drove his car harder than anyone I know.
His engine popped a little over 100k miles.
The rebuilder said the inside had little to no carbon build up.
He ran whatever oil they put in his car, never premixed, changed his oil when the oil light would come on, and autocrossed religiously.
Sleepyz who posts on here every now and then works for the Mazda rebuild factory and said carbon build up is #1 issue he sees.

there are a good number of people OVER 100k on their original motor.... don't spread misinformation.
and the "oil light" coming on is not an indication for when to change your oil, conversely if it's on you already did some dmg.
premix, run heavier weight oil, get something to increase omp flow (e.g, accessport) and ride her brains out. also temp's are something to look at.. NONE of the gauges on the cluster can give you an indication of temperatures of anything.

i cleaned my maf and it didnt help. maybe ill try cleaning it again. i think the problem is my intake manifold being dirty. i just dont want to pull my manifold off and then have problems with a vacuum leak or something stupid like that.
I have an 06 with a similar setup, seafoamed it around 20,000 and got a lot of carbon out in the form of smoke that last for a very long time. It felt more powerful 10k miles later and I haven't had any problems with my engine at all.
There are some threads here of the "100k" club. Also, there are more RX8 owners on the road than are here on the forum...who really knows how many 100k owners there really are?
Gotten a little cynical since your engine popped, have we? Every car is different, people tend to forget these are hand assembled...and engine temps have a huge roll on their demise.

Believe me i run the car the way it's meant to be. Thoroughly enjoyed
Idk, problem is, if they put another motor in that was jus rebuilt from someone else's blown engine, they didn't "fix" the issue that caused that motor to crap out. So if it happened once, can i safely assume it'll happen again, possibly next summer? I'll be bummed, but a new motor every year actually kinda sounds nice lol.

Yeah having it covered under warranty takes the sting out.
Wow, one example. I did search briefly and Expo was the only other one I saw. I'm sure if I search harder I could find maybe one more, haha.
fyi Lambert was at almost 170,000 miles back in December.. 8 months later I wonder what happened..!! I reckon 200k..
