I should have mine tomorrow or saturday. Perhaps i can install it on Sunday. Will provide an update once I have one.

 

Got mine installed. I actually removed the LED array from the clear housing that was provided and installed it into the stock housing. I like the serrated plastic that the stock housing has and it has a better gasket and fits better. I was surprised at how bright it is. Maybe twice as bright as the stock light. Very nice. Now I need to LEDize my 4th brake light. A few pics (just a few... it's freezing out!)

would be easy to tint that for us smoked guys

what I meant was if the oem housing fits better, than Aipex8's idea is the way to go...and easy to tint it if smoke is wanted

 

I'm sure the aftermarket housing would have fit with some more work, but it definitely didn't pop in like the OEM housing does. Not complaining though, nice bright LEDs for a good price.

Received mine today, should have it installed sometime next week. I probably won't post pics, as it will just look like the other Ti-gray 8's, but first impression is that this is product well worth the money..... Thanks for setting this up Saki!!

mine came in today too... another tit gray so I probably won't bother with pictures either... still on the fence about which assembly to go with and since it's 30 degrees out I'm not in a big hurry to decide. Maybe Sunday for install if it's not too cold.

 

i've got a brilliant black.. think the tinted would look good on that? i'm tempted to buy it!

I received mine today and swapped the clear housing with the OEM like Aipex8 did. Great upgrade and goes well with the rest of my LEDs.

I have a tinted one that is going on tuesday and my 8 is titanium gray

My OEM housing is scratched so I will not use it.
I will install it as it is. Will that be ok?

 

Clearly these are very bright, and I do like the safety advantage of having a brake light that comes on instantly instead of having a quarter to eighth second hesitation as the incandescent filament heats up (maybe it's actually less than that; but that's what it seems like to me); but I couldn't see in the discussion (and I did use the search function for the words voltage and regulation) if there is any circuitry to protect the LEDs from normally occurring voltage variations in the RX-8's electrical system. In reading up on the tail lights that Rotary Rasp used to produce, I noticed that RR went to considerable effort to protect LEDs from voltage variations to ensure their long life. Is there anything similar in these?

 

I'd suggest PM'ing RR and asking him. He might not see your post. Then paste anything he says back here.

 

it'll be fine... i went ahead and did a full swap after completely dismantling my stock housing. I didn't see a lot of difference between old and new, except that the rubber seal was actually a bit better suited on the new one.

Ya know, I thought about that too but didn't take the time to pop open the new housing to see what all is in there so I can't add much here. Although, prior to reading your post, I had already considered the "fail" potential of these lights and while doing my installation instead of completely cutting the OEM plug, I merely tapped into it using wire taps so that if I ever need to go back to the conventional bulb connector, I can with minimal effort.

So, in the months ahead if we find "fail", for me it will be a matter of making a visit to v-leds, picking out a nice multi-angle, multi-led, regulated LED, gutting the new clear housing (the stock is red), and going back to the old connector.

yeah, I know... I'm rambling.
