Posted over in NEPOC as well, so don't count me twice, but I'll be there :)

Chibana 08-09-2011 02:32 PM

Will we be doing parade laps again this year? That was a blast. However, I seem to recall the rule was no passengers, and I'll have my 9-year old boy with me, so I guess I'll have to pass on the parade lap. Bummer.

time permitting we will have parade laps and your son can ride with you and any other guests, as long as yo usign a waiver. So, you can have passengers in yior car. Also, please send me a pm with your sons' shirt size, as Freedom does have youth sizes.

Oh, excellent. I'll send that PM.

tacti 08-17-2011 07:18 AM

i'm in as well. first time attending such thing, but sounds really fun.

does anyone have suggestion of things to bring with me?
if we do have parade lap, does it require helmet or anything?
oh. and.. where should I go as I arrive on friday?

Thanks!

alnielsen 08-17-2011 08:20 AM

No helmet should be worn. No special preparation should be needed for the car. They are parade laps, it's not a competition event.
Last year the car corrals were at the start/finish line, across from the pits. Come in the main entrance and go straight, then cross the bridge. You'll see it on the right.

We will have signage to let you know where to go and the track volunteers will direct you as well. As alnielsen stated you do not need a helmet. I would advise a cooler with your favorite beverage, snacks, we'll be serving lunch on Saturday, sunscreen.

tacti 08-17-2011 10:34 PM

Thanks!
I'll bring tons of drink for sure.
by the way, I saw there are showers, are they open to the camping visitors?

Grimm0ne 08-17-2011 11:41 PM

grrrr i got crap that weekend, would love to attend and its for a dang good cause (my son is autistic).. mad props to you guys etc... he would love this.

alnielsen 08-17-2011 11:54 PM

When the showers were first built there in the mid 80's, they were only for use of the track workers. I don't know if this policy has changed.

Showers are for the public use as well. We will have the prelim sched for our corral up by week's end. Please note that we've been asked to be Grid Marshal's for both the GS/ST race and DP/GT race. The Parade laps will take place on Saturday during the "Fan Walk" of the GS/ST Race.

When gridding the GS/ST race, we will of course be wearing our Freedom T's and during the GT race, we'll be wearing Sahlen's Hot Dog Hats!

This is one event that should'nt be missed, I mean it is going to be huge. We have Mazda owners coming from all over, NC/SC, VA, PA, AL, GA, KY, IN, CT, MA, IN, Fl, WI, IL, MO and OH.

We will be celebrating Mazda winning the GT Manufacturers Championship and the ST Championship as well!

darnellm 08-29-2011 08:44 AM

Marlon, I will be flying from No Va to Cleveland and will drive from there.
I will be stopping by Great Lakes Brewery. Should I pick up a few cases for our favorite
race teams. I seem to remember you bribing teams with GLB beverages at VIR last year.
There will probably have Oktoberefest.
Let me know.

Sounds like a plan and a perfect choice!

Rzoops 08-29-2011 11:54 AM

I'm planning to come up Saturday morning for the races, but this sounds like a great alternative for parking. I assume there will be no problem getting into the corral on Saturday morning?

Also, is there a schedule for when the charity dyno runs or parade lap might be?

Chibana 08-29-2011 01:25 PM

I'm also planning on being there Saturday only. Last year I was there Friday and Saturday, but I didn't have my (now) 9-year old son with them then. I don't think he could handle two days at the track. Even I was getting tired of the affair half way through the second day last time. I seem to remember that last year there were quite a few more Mazdas in the corral on Saturday than on Friday, so I think many people only come for that day.

msumlin 08-30-2011 08:37 AM

If you have a Mazda corral ticket you will be allowed to park in the corral. We do have a prelim schedule and here it is.

Just a quick reminder, if you are attending the corral, I need your t shirt size for the Freedom T's, I need them by today as I will be submitting the list to Freedom tomorrow! this is just for the recent attendees, as I have all of the others that signed up early in the process.

Just ordered our tickets! Should be a blast. Coming from Hershey PA area. Can't get away till Fri. 6pm. BULLRUN...... the last statement shall be stricken from the court's record. See ya there.

msumlin 09-06-2011 12:01 PM

We've sold 120 tickets through this past Saturday and we have 8 days left for Mazda owners to purchase tickets. Possible looking at 130-140 tickets total by next Wednesday.

msumlin 09-07-2011 02:22 PM

Mazda USA is sending out a videographer to cover the id-Ohio event it will be featured in the next Zoom, Zoom Magazine.

Hello,

Looking forward to filming your group next weekend!

Can you point me to a website with a schedule and other event info? Even a forum thread would be fine. Also, please confirm the exact dates and activities.

I'd like to shoot the parade lap from the passenger seat of one of your group's cars. If you can pick a volunteer in advance that would be ideal, though we can always figure that out later

alnielsen 09-07-2011 02:25 PM

Doing just that today!

BJP 09-07-2011 03:13 PM

Make sure Mazda USA looks for my car. Maybe ill kick my passenger out and let them ride with me. Ha ha...I cannot wait!

RIWWP 09-07-2011 03:20 PM

At this point, I suspect I will not have a passenger. My wife will not be joining me for the weekend, and my sister has been quite unsure if she will let my nephew hang out for one or both days.

I will have my Miata, which, with the top down, should offer an ideal lack of visibility problems :D:

alnielsen 09-08-2011 10:45 AM

I ordered my tickets yesterday. See you there.
I also have a camp site I can share.

I requested a Mazda6 but no guarantees.
I guess I better bring a Mazda key with me,
Heck if I show up with a trunk full of beer I think I would be well received driving any car!

I'm glad to see that we are dominating the "starting grid"...

What's this about models?! :boink: Are we using the oil on the models?
