Auburn of the Valley, WA- NEGATIVE

DO NOT BUY FROM AUBURN, WA MAZDA.

Went to get my first car...found the perfect Mazda Rx8 and gave us an offer to good to resist...while driving the car home the check engine light came on. Second time the car left the driveway, tire pressure light went on. Then a few weeks later traction control came on. The car has less than 211 miles on it at that time and is under warrenty...they wont fix it and their story keeps changing about why we have so many problems. They told us it was new then that it was used. They also told us parts were stripped off the car one night then they denied it. Then when we took it to the shop they discovered that the vin# on some of the tires didnt match up and that there were different amounts of ware on each tire which meant that not all of the tires were those that came on the car when it was considered "new". When we called to talk to the manager to see if they would just give us our money back the lady kept yelling at us and would not put us through. It was a joke. I got the car in June of 08 and have been dealing with them ever since.

idk about that, when i called MNAO they were worse than the crappy dealer that i almost got screwed on. when my cat plugged up at 50k miles and i went to montrose mazda they pretty much said they refused to look at the car because i didnt have a CEL and that theres no such thing as a recall ever being done on an rx-8 (yeah right). so after being insulted and yelled at by the manager there, i called MNAO and they pretty much denied the 80,000 mile warranty on the cat that i sent them in the TSB's. and even after they'd put me on hold for hours and never call me back and just avoid everything about the issue. wasnt until i talked to a friend of mine at a GM dealership who's the service manager and found out his brother is the service manager at a different mazda dealer and he called in a favor and got the warranty honored and i got a new cat for free.

long story short is that i dont think MNAO is any better than half the horrible dealers i hear about on here.

Yeah, we are starting to take care of it. Im taking the car to the Kirkland Mazda and they pretty much said that we need to file a lemon law complaint... Its just afrustraiting situation overall. Its a fun car but this expirience doesnt make me want to buy another one unfortunately.

Thumbs down South Motors Mazda - Miami : NEGATIVE!

I recently bought a new '09 Sport Man from South Motors Mazda in Miami FL. The sales team was unpleasant and rude but I got the price I wanted and bought. They were 2 days late on having it ready (ordered from a dealer upstate) and even tried to leave it at my house at 10 at night when I told them I would not be able to come and get it for a few days. The reason they tried to deliver that late became clear when I picked it up:

When I go to pick up the car It has several dents and scratches and the dealership tried avoiding all responsibility. The oil was almost empty, as I found out the next day when my low oil light came on. The salesman avoided my calls after that and they are now giving me the run-around on a squeaking inside my passenger side door; I have not even been driving the car for a month.

IMO the dealership is terrible and one should never buy from them unless one is looking for a really bad experience.

Southern States Mazda, Raleigh, NC. Brought the car in for inspection of OMP under warranty. Visible oil leak. OMP was replaced under warranty, which was fine (I was suprised they replaced the whole pump - not a gasket), but oil leak continued (specifically seems to be coming from banjo fittings on oil line connections). Took it back in and was told "no, it's not leaking, that's old oil from the OMP replacement". Meanwhile, fresh oil drops on the garage floor every morning. I've examined, and can see drips of oil forming from the banjo fittings above the OMP and on the OMP itself. I think they didn't even look at it!!!!! Now they've added the UV dye to the oil, but that means yet another trip to the dealer, rental car, hassle!!!

Neutral (leaning towards bad): Tustin Mazda, CA

Quoted me over 8000 for an engine replacement until I called MNAO. Even after that they were reluctant and charged me 200 for decarbing and diagnosis (which I feel should be covered under warranty, but MNAO was on their side for that).
Suggested I should get a new clutch since the engine was out and labor would be free which is good, but tried to charge me 800 just for stock clutch parts.

Car was clean when I got it back, but noticed 3 small dents on the side of my car after a few days.

Bad Mazda Dealerships

Watch Out for the service dept. at Walker's Renton Mazda in Renton, WA a suburb of Seattle WA.

I towed in my car cause it wasn't cranking, said they should need about 1/2 hour of labor to find whats wrong w/ it. It took them 1.5 hours or labor ($150.00) to figure out I had a bad ignition coil. They gave me two options....

Option 1: change out 1 coil for $450.00
Option 2: (What they suggested i do) change out all 4 ignition coils + spark plugs + ignition wires.... cost $850.00

Now I'm not a big car guy, but I'm pretty internet savvy, decided to do some digging on the net and found out i can get all the parts for:

set of 4 coils average - $140.00
set of spark plugs average - $ 90.00
set of ignition wires average - $25.00

Making it $255.00 of parts.

How the F**K were they goin to charge me 850.00 for a few hours of labor and *255.00 in parts?

Make it worse $450.00 charge to change out 1 x $30.00 coil?

What a bunch of crooks, I said send me the two detailed estimates via fax, they never did, I called them back and they said, hey.. just buy the parts yourself and we'll charge you a nominal price for installing.

long story short.. don't trust the service dept for dealers.. do your homework.

Crooks!!!!

Beasley South Austin Texas = crap

I've had the car back for a few months, I took these pics maybe a day or so after picking it up. I never raised a concern with the dealership because last time I tried I got lectured about how the car left the lot, so anything could have caused the damage and blah blah blah, well, any reasonable person would know that's probably not the case but whatever.

I've fought with posting anything about it but I think it only fair to try and save other people from the complete and utter disappointment and inconvenience I've had to deal with.

My car lost an engine again earlier this year back in March, I towed my car to Beasley South since prior to this issue, I've had good luck with them, that is, until this happened. I told them SEVERAL times that this car is a show car, I have obligations with it, the ENTIRE vehicle is OPENLY displayed at EVERY show I compete in, and most every time I go to parking lot meets etc. So in other words, "please be careful with it", don't throw engines in and out of it with reckless abandon, don't jack it up and down carelessly tearing up the 800 dollar sideskirts, how about being a little more attentive with removing and remounting the wheels, since they are a painted finish and will probably chip or scratch if carelessly tossed around like they're 15 dollar steelies, especially when they're custom made 3 piece high dollar high end etc etc. Oh, and by the way, maybe you could be a little more careful with the power and ground wire on the battery, instead of just looping it around all over the place wherever it fits.

My engine bay was manhandled, there are still scratches everywhere on my custom powder coated cooling plates, intake, strut bar, a/c line thingie in front of the firewall, my firewall blanket has chunks missing, the same material found on both fenders is torn up as well. My passenger side skirt is hanging about an inch off the car with a bent bracket, front wheel is chipped and wheel sticker thrashed, I've also found a nice sized gash on my driver side skirt, I've since touched it up but it's getting repainted anyway. My wiring was a mess too, I've since corrected them on my own as I just couldn't bring myself to take it back only to have to deal with more drama. I should also mention these guys broke the filler neck on my radiator during the course of replacing my engine (they replaced it a total of 3 times in one visit, maybe if Mazda would use NEW engines instead of REMANS I wouldn't have to go through this nightmare every 40-50k), and when I called to tell them about it they wanted me to tow the car there to "verify it was their fault", which translated means " tow your undrivable car here so we can buttrape you to fix it". No thanks, I've since replaced the radiator on my own as well.

So my advice to anyone here in austin or surrounding areas would be to take it to Premier in Georgetown, or central location on Burnet rd. I'd stay the F away from the south location unless you just like getting your car worked on by people who don't pay attention or care about doing a good job.

Definitely stay away from Jenkins Mazda in Ocala, Florida. As of now, they're located on Route 200 off of Interstate 75.

My saga dates back to October of last year, but it's still not quite over. I'm about to write another letter to MNAO since they have yet to respond. As per the rules, I'll stop here.

Anyway, my coils failed and killed my catalytic converter. I also had a front main seal failure, which should have been covered under the engine warranty extension. They basically took my car for about a week, ripped my car apart, quoted an exorbitant estimate and when I called bullshit on some of what they were saying was wrong with it, we came to an impasse. I decided to take my car (after paying them a lot of money for their estimate) and ended having to have my car towed home only so I could put it back together myself. I got MNAO involved, and after a few days of back and forth with me and the dealer, they said they would not honor the warranty. They said Jenkins told them my exhaust (Racing Beat Rev8 catback) was to blame. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Mazda consult with RB? Jenkins itself carries Mazdaspeed parts - including a catback exhaust!!!

My only saving grace is the fact that I work on my own car and I was able to put it back together for much less than Jenkins wanted. However, the fact is they did something to my car while they had it in their possession becuase even though it ran like crap, it DID run! When I got it back, however, it wouldn't even try to crank. I ended up having to pay a third party (Tailored Car Care) to reprogram my PCM and my keys because I'm simply not equipped to do so.

Bottomline: Jenkins sucks and if buying a car from them (or taking my car to them) meant the difference between leading a fulfilling life or dying a horrible, fiery death - guess who's charcoal? I've been working on rotaries for 22+ years now and the only reason I didn't fix my car in the first place is because this was a new car and it was covered under warranty for what went wrong. This whole ordeal almost made me want to give up on rotaries just to spite Mazda , but alas, I love them too much. It's in my blood! So here I am ...

Bad Guy = Jenkins Mazda

Good Guy = Tailored Car Care (I'd recommend them to anyone)

Re Jenkins Mazda above, yes, they suck.

Back in 2004 when I was shopping for my RX-8, I stopped by Jenkins (I know this dealership, and think it had a different name back then). Anyway, I was met in the parking lot by two green, barely 20-something, sales associates. I'll call them Beavis and Butthead. I had done my homework on pricing through Consumer Reports and Edmunds, and knew in advance what I had to pay. They looked over my figures and started to tag-team me about me not knowing what it cost to run a dealership.

I got in my RX-7 and drove up to a Gainesville dealer (University Mazda, I think it was called) and struck a deal for the exact car I wanted at the price I wanted after 20 minutes from arriving.

The next day I picked up my car and drove straight to Jenkins. I pulled up along side the showroom and saw Beavis and Butthead hanging out outside. They came up to the car (not recognizing me right away) and asked if I needed service or something. Then Buthead recognized me. I told him I got the car in Gainesville, and handed him a copy I had made of my paperwork with the prices on it.

Drove off watching Beavis and Butthead huddled together reading what I left them. Priceless.

From diabolical1's post, it sounds like Beavis may be running the service department now. I'll make sure I avoid that.

Clippinger Mazda

Clippinger Mazda
2539 E Garvey Avenue North
West Covina, CA 91791
(626) 966-0681‎
www.clippingermazda.com

Had a cracked clutch pedal bracket, so took my RX8 to Clippinger Mazda to see what they would say. First, they wanted to charge me ~$560 for it ($280 for the clutch pedal assembly, and 280 for labor). Seeing their hourly labor rates as $90/hr, I told them this is definitely a less than 1 hr job. They came back and told me they would lower it to $480. Still complete BS.

Stay away from this stealership.

(I ended up fixing the clutch pedal assembly for $120, just bought one from a junkyard and switched it in about 20 mins)

Wow same deal for me. Drove 2 hours from Melbourne to look at a 05 Shinka. Got there, guy said he thought it would have been ready. I wanted to see it anyways, so he took us to the bodyshop. Apparently it was in an accident or it wouldnt be in there. Half painted shinka, looked like crap. Thoroughly pissed.

They tried an old fashioned bait-and-switch on their website. I made an offer on a GT, they accepted, and when I got there is was the base model.

NEGATIVE -
Southerlin Mazda, Mall of Georgia, Buford, Ga

Just so you know the the people involved:

John is the Master Service Tech.
Susan works at the service counter.
The group I refer to is the Georgia RX-8 Club.

========================================

I stopped by Southerlin Mazda today to tell Mike in the parts department that I had repaired my clutch pedal assembly myself and wouldn't need the one I ordered. Mike is a great guy behind the parts counter. He has always helped me out getting parts with the utmost professionalism.

I saw John at the service desk as he was up front instead of in the back for a change. After cordial greetings, I said I would like to talk with him if he had a minute. He said he was really busy and wanted to know if it was involved. I said "no" it will only take a minute. I told him about my clutch assembly and I wanted to know if he had any others come in. I was not prepared for what followed and since I'm a non confrontational type person, I chose to not respond what I was truly thinking at that time and decided to swing back online, where it will hurt the most.

These are not quotes but are as close as I can remember as to what he said.

- John at this point proceeded to let me know that only people that track and drive hard have the problems we have. (Referring to the Ga RX-8 Club and many issues over time)

- He said that an 80 year old woman brought her fully loaded black automatic in for trade with over 100,000 miles. (I can't make this crap up guys!)

- He referenced members of our group bringing in white papers and requesting work because of them and said it doesn't mean he has to do the work just because there are white papers. Also, that there are white papers that ya'll don't know about! (Seems there are some issues we need to know about guys, let's get busy :D )

- He said that most of us come in only for warranty work and they can't make a living off of that. And followed up with something relating to the fact that they really don't need our business. (Guess an uneducated Mazda owner is a good customer, eh!)

- He had things to say about two members, one positively and one negatively, I don't care to mention names so you will have to guess.

- He was on a tear and didn't want to be interrupted when I tried to speak and Susan was nodding and John spoke to her for a confirmation and then she joined in with a left jab.

- He said that when we come to them for something and if they make a suggestion that we don't follow up with things like spark plugs and brake pads and that we go to (can't remember the degrading term he used) some other place to and get them. (I don't remember being obligated to Sutherlin!)

- He seemed to have plenty of time to unload on me so I guess he wasn't that busy, eh!

He said more but I honestly couldn't believe he was telling me all this. It wasn't like I came in to get my clutch assembly covered under warranty. I ordered the GD part with all intentions of purchasing it. I just decided to repair my on and was wanting to alert him that there was a potential issue with the clutch assembly. He told me, "There is no issue with the clutch assembly!" and suggested that there will not be. (We will see about that!)

Seems they don't want our business. I've said this for quite a while now. I suggest that if you need to use them for something, don't tell them you are a member of the GA RX-8 Club and for God sakes don't act like you know anything about the car. :|

Oh, and he also told me that he was over needing to do mods to his car and that's why he sold his RX-7. He said that gas cost too much. He rather drive a small car (can't remember the POS he mentioned). Fast cars just don't matter to him any more.

WTF did I do to deserve this crap! I didn't come in asking for a GD thing!

Hope John and Susan gather around the computer and read my post to the other employees of Sutherlin Mazda.

A few months ago I took my RX8 to have an oil leak diagnosed and fixed by John at Southerlin. He said the Oil Metering Pump needed to be replaced. So I ended up paying just over a thousand dollars for that one part plus labor. I took it home and noticed a few days later that my car was still leaking oil. I took it back to Southerlin. John tells me that it looks like the oil pan seal is leaking now and shows me that there is no oil on the metering pump. Last week while under my car, I saw oil dripping from the Oil Metering Pump and all around it.

I thought the new oil metering pump had gone bad so I took it back to Sutherlin. I told Susan to tell John to double check and make sure that it's the oil pan seal because I noticed oil on the oil metering pump. I wait for a few minutes in the waiting room. Then John with Susan and a couple other service people come out. John says a few things and says "let me do my job...." and "I guarantee that it's not the oil metering pump." He says something along the lines of, give me a day and I will put dye in the oil and tell where this leak is coming from. I was thinking later that if he did his job in the first place, I probably wouldn't have even needed to be there again. He didn't appear to care that I already spent over $1,000 for him to fix my car from leaking oil. I'm sure they will always say that there were two leaks and the Oil Metering Pump was one of them. That's probably true but he shouldn't have been rude to me. Also, don't just look and say it's probably the oil pan seal and type it on an invoice without being sure.

Sport Durst, Durham NC - incompetent all round

I took in a Mazda6 for servicing a couple of times.
- I asked them to please hand-torque the lug nuts because the rotors can easily warp. They said they didn't need to because their air guns are calibrated. My rotors end up warping.
- I complained about a brake pedal that creaks inside the cabin in hot weather. Obviously this needed lithium grease. They said it needed flushing and new brake fluid. I said no thanks.

I tried to buy an RX8 from them in January when Mazda were offering $5000 off an '09.
- They tried to sell me a couple of used cars - one with 77,000 miles in it. I explained that I wanted an '09.
- They said there were no '09s left*, but they'd give me a "very aggressive" price on a '10. I asked them to split the difference and cut the price by $2500.
- They offered a price cut of about $1500 saying it was $200 below invoice... a bald faced lie. I left.
- Three days later I got a recall notice in the mail. I checked online and could not find any outstanding recalls that could possibly apply to my car. I called and asked what the letter was about. They said they'd get back to me.

*The next dealership down the road found me an '09, and then when someone else bought that, they found me another one.

Summary: lazy and/or incompetent at every opportunity.

Gem Mazda of Tallahassee, FL - EXTREME NEGATIVE
HORRIBLE customer service(guy was a complete dumbass), has taken 3 full days so far to diagnose low compression WITH paperwork from my personal mechanic showing the compression is 82psi, evaporative emmissions leak and transmission failure. walked into the mechanic area at 4 pm(they close at 5:30), 2 cars in the entire shop including mine with 1 mechanic on duty that was sitting in a chair staring at a wall. They are ******** and shitty mechanics. last time i had to tighten up 3 coolant hoses to keep them from leaking everywhere AFTER they replaced my shuttervalve that took a week to replace. ill never buy another mazda anything for as long as i live
