Service: Engine Rebuild

I recently had the unfortunate problem of bad compression in my engine. I decided to go through Rotary Ressurection to get my engine rebuilt. I was pleased with my whole experience working through him. He was very open with his estimated time to complete the rebuild and actually finished a little quicker than we anticipated. He was very helpful in deciding which parts in the engine were okay to be reused to make the rebuild as cheap as possible while still being reliable in the long run. I would recommend this service to anyone pursuing an engine rebuild!

Glad to hear it, though I'm not surprised. Mind if I ask if you shipped the engine, whole car, or if you were local? If you shipped the engine to you tear it down to a short block? And how long did the whole process take?

Thanks

I'm also curious as I just had a scare with a possible low compression motor and started to do a little research into a replacement motor.

Can you be a little more specific on the timeline of the process? I would have had to take my motor out and have it shipped to him from where I am in PA which was going to cost a little under $300.

I'm assuming your core needs to arrive before he'll start work so he can disassemble it and determine which parts are salvageable.

I couldn't for the life of me find anything on his site that went into how its shipped back to you? I can only imagine he uses the same method and just tacks that on to your bill?

Thanks!

Chances are he has a freight shipping account he will send you the BOL, you will schedule the pickup at your place to ship to him, rebuild should be 4-7 days depending on parts etc... then he will ship it all back to you under his account again and you will pay him the total for his work parts and both shipping costs.

The shipping TO him I was clear on as he outlines that quite well on his website, it was just the return shipping I was curious about but thanks!

The way I normally work is to take either the engine or the whole car, a deposit, and a service contract up front. The owner pays the shipping on engines both ways directly to the shipping carrier in most cases, usually $150-200 each way for those in the eastern and middle US. Then the job sits here "in line" until I finish all the jobs that were already here waiting. Once I get to the engine, I tear it apart, send the owner pictures of teardown and a detailed written description of the condition of each major internal part and whether or not I'd recommend it be reused and what effect it might have if it is reused. IF not, I give estimated prices and options for replacements. The owner can decide what they want to do based on that education, and once I have everything I need to complete the build, I send them more pics of assembly as well as the final balance due. Normal turnaround for the whole process is around a month. Once the balance is paid, I ship the engine out freight collect, and once more the buyer pays the shipping on their end directly to the carrier.

That's easy, you just call up and order two new end irons.

Making the rest of the wiring/fuel/manifold changes are on you, however.

I'd like to emphasize that RotaryRessurection makes a very detailed picture catalog of your entire rebuild. No smoke, no mirrors.

We shipped the short block through R&L and it cost us $180 each way. If I remember correctly we could have shipped the long block and added 150.00 to the rebuild. After the last month, I'd have to say that option should be strongly considered.

Overall pricing was very good and when alternative replacement used parts were available they were offered at fair and reasonable prices. We had a spun bearing and had to replace the e-shaft.

We are VERY happy with how the engine is running. Can't wait to get through the break in period!
