Thumbs down BAD GUY: 05renesis

https://www.rx8club.com/members/05renesis-36070/

On August 22nd, 05renesis sent me a private message stating that he had a Greddy SP2 catback exhaust that he was willing to sell. I immediately told him that I was interested and asked him for pictures. On the 26th, he sent me these:

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...l/photo3-1.jpg
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...l/photo2-1.jpg
http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...rl/photo-1.jpg

Seemed legit, so I again told him that I was interested, however, I requested that he take better pictures and also have a piece of paper with his name next to the exhaust. The very next day, August 27th, he sent me better pictures with his name on a piece of paper.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...l/100_2444.jpg

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...l/100_2445.jpg

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...l/100_2446.jpg

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...l/100_2447.jpg

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f1...l/100_2448.jpg

I noticed that he wrote his (probably) actual name instead of his username, but I assumed that he was just taking my words too literally. I was convinced that this was the real deal since there's no other reason for someone to write their name on a piece of paper unless requested to do so, so I told him I was ready to pay him.

Payment of $460 USD was sent on August 27th to (jcdied4u@earthlink.net), via Paypal. I had to wait about three days for the e-check to "clear", as he would not ship until it did. On September 2nd I received this message from renesis:

I did not hear from renesis for five days. I had already begun thinking that I had got myself into something sketchy, until he sent me this message on September 7th:

Okay! Feeling reassured, I excitedly waited for renesis to come home from work so I could receive my tracking number and picture of receipt.

I have not heard from 05renesis since.

His last login date was September 17th, so I'm sure he's seen my "Where's the tracking number" and "Can I see the receipt? Where's the exhaust" messages that I sent him following September 7th. I'm now convinced that he has scammed me.

I opened a dispute on Paypal on September 22nd. Before escalating the dispute to a Paypal claim, I gave 05renesis six days to respond. Of course, he didn't. On September 27th I escalated the dispute to a claim. I gave my side/information, and now, 05renesis was given 10 days to give his own (He currently has 6 days left).

How real is Paypal when it comes to this kind of stuff? They clearly stated that if the seller doesn't respond within the 10 days they are given, that I automatically win the claim and my funds are restored. Is this as true as it sounds? It seems like Paypal is the only way I'm going to get my money back, as I have no address or phone number given by 05renesis to handle this any other way.

paypal is very cut and dry about how/when you get the money back. So if he doesnt respond then you get your cash back.

I hope the new paypal rules applied here so he would not have had time to pull his money out. I frickin' hate scammers.

Hope so. I spent months looking for a Greddy SP2 seller and I was beyond excited when I thought I had finally found one. My excitement and desperation for an exhaust probably played a role in this; I should have asked for more information instead of a couple of exhaust pictures.

That would be fantastic, but it has already been about a month since he received payment so chances are he's already taken it out and spent it. I dunno what new rule you're referring to but I'm assuming it has something to do with one's account being locked until a dispute is cleared up, or something? I'm mostly concerned about being reimbursed by Paypal.

05renesis is probably lurking on another account. I hope you're reading this. How does it feel to have scammed a hard-working teenager out of his money? How pathetic do you have to be to stoop low enough to scam fellow RX-8 enthusiasts?

I used PayPal with eBay... I've had a few problems with sellers and for me to receive full refund, I'd have to ship the item the Texas (claims bldg for eBay, I presume). It may take a little longer for the money to appear in your account, but there is a good chance that you will get it back.

Try to build up some info here for ya Grog.

I just found this by doing a search on threads started by "username".

"I currently work at Fast4wheels in Garland Texas as their main tech". That was posted back in January of this year, so he might still be there???? They also have a website, I checked and no real useful info though, but it still might help.

Paypal 110% always will support the buyer!

If you say you didnt get your item and he cant provide them with tracking info to prove otherwise then he loses and you get your money back. Dont worry, if he doesnt respond you will definetly get your cash back.

I dont understand why people like him scam others especially with paypal. They dont ever win...

Idk maybe he thinks because he transferred the money to his bank account they cant get it back but its going to come right out of his account

Im sorry this happened to you man..

This is definitely going to get me somewhere. I checked out Fast4wheels' website and I'm going to try contacting them on Monday. I'll try using the name that was on the piece of paper in the photos (Jose Caruso, iirc), and if it turns out they don't recognize the name, I'll try referring to him as "The guy with the black RX-8", since that's what 05renesis' profile picture shows.

I'm really hoping they don't respond with a "never heard of him, sorry we can't help you". I dunno how easily small companies like these give out information, but if they gave me a number that I could reach him at, then I'd be able to put him on the spot. We'll see.

I recommend thinking this through and maybe you should be a little coy at first without giving up too much right up front. Not sure how I would do this, but wouldn't spill the beans right away. Think it through. Maybe somehow after somewhat confirming if he is still there.........just letting it ride until paypal avenue dries up????? Just a random thought.
Yeah, I was gonna mention the black RX to you, but figured you had already seen at least that much. Good luck! I hate when people do this ****!

Didn't think we'd get this far this fast, but check it out, guys:

Jose A. Carrasco
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...299987&ref=sgm

Elizabeth Miranda (Girlfriend?)
http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.p...126&ref=search

What the **** do I do? This is as close as I'm going to get to contacting him directly. How should I handle this? I have a Facebook, but my Paypal email contains my first and last name, so he would know that it's me.

Thanks SO MUCH to cdleo71 for digging this info up!

Me personally, I wouldn't say **** to the guy. I'd just wait for PayPal to do thier business first. I wouldn't even want to talk to him. I'd just get your money back, and start shopping for a new exhaust.

I recently heard that Paypal only reimburses you if the claim is related to an eBay transaction. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Not true, I got reimbursed on a claim from a t shirt scammer on this board that I did not get through ebay. Go to the NTXrotary lounge and ask the Dallas guy to help you out. If I was in Dallas I would go pay him a visit for you.

Nope. Just patiently waiting until October 8th, when Paypal moves on to the next "stage" in the claim. From what Paypal says, if he doesn't respond by this date, I win the claim and get my money back, but we'll see.

I would truly appreciate this, however, I think it might be a best to just wait until the 8th and see what happens. If for some reason Paypal doesn't give me my money back, then I'd have no choice but to try an contact him, and you going over there to try and talk to him would be the best help I could get.

Hopefully it won't get to that level and Paypal will just give me my money...

the problem with paypal is if hes smart enough to send you a 20 lb weight inside a package with a tracking number youre fucked unless you see the ups guy deliver it and you can deny shipment from him.

so if he doesnt do that you should get your money back regardless of whether or not he spent the money. if he spent it already his account will go negative and collections will come after him

Paypal giving your money back is okay but him catching a beat down from a rugby player is much more entertaining.

That sucks op. I'm always skeptical about making purchases from other members for this very reason. Keep us all informed as to what happens.
